Thanks to technology, culture and society are becoming more integrated to the rest of the world, generating an alternative way to develop countries, society and communities. Based on the potential idea of being all connected.

The 13th International Fab Lab meeting offers us a chance to understand the embedded implications of these ideas and question the systemic approach that fab labs propose.

Lisbon city was the common homeland of many nations in the Early Modern period. This paper studies the signs of the Flemish / Dutch presence in the Portuguese capital, between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, a presence with important contributions to Portuguese civil and military technology, cultural life and specially with an active role in the Trade between Portugal and northern Europe of Overseas products (initially sugar, chilli, pastel, and afterwards «Pau-Brasil», tobacco and diamonds), as well as more traditional products, such as wine and salt. It was a community that despite the periods of diplomatic and military contingency in the sixteenth and seventeenth century (after the closure of the Portuguese factory in Antwerp and the religious wars), maintained a continuous presence in Lisbon, becoming noticed either by their wealth, marked by important urban noble houses and countryside manor houses in the outskirts, the direct exploitation of marine salt, their social organization around Lisbon’s Flemish fraternity and the 2nd generation connection with some of the wealthiest local families thus replicating the Portuguese social patterns.

Uma das características da Lisboa do início da Idade Moderna era ser a pátria comum de muitas nações. No presente texto vamos analisar os sinais da presença na capital portuguesa de uma dessas nações, a Flamenga / Holandesa, que entre os séculos XV e XVIII, além das suas importantes contribuições para a tecnologia civil e militar e para cultura, teve um papel activo no comércio de Portugal para o Norte da Europa, não só de produtos do Espaço Ultramarino (numa fase inicial, no açúcar, malagueta, pastel; e depois no pau-brasil, tabaco e pedras preciosas), como também de matérias mais tradicionais, como o Vinho e o Sal. Foi uma comunidade que apesar dos períodos de contingência diplomática e militar, manteve uma presença contínua em Lisboa com maior incidência no século XVII (depois do fecho da feitoria portuguesa de Antuérpia e das guerras religiosas), destacando-se quer pela sua riqueza, assinalada por importantes palácios citadinos e quintas nobres nos arredores, a exploração directa das marinhas de sal, a sua organização social em torno da confraria dos Flamengos, pela ligação da 2.ª geração a famílias locais mais ricas e pela integração nos padrões sociais da época.

A tanulmány célja egy első impresszió bemutatása, amely a teljesség igénye nélkül tárgyalja az elektromos autók elterjedésének, az iparág fejlődésének hatásmechanizmusait a különböző érdekszférákban. Ezt a többrétegű, rendkívül összetett kérdéskört három részben tárgyaljuk. Az első részben az elektromobilitás fogalom értelmezését, alakulásának mikéntjét ismertetjük, kitérve az elektromobilitási tendenciákra. Áttekintjük az elektromobilitás társadalmi relevanciáját, és arra a kérdésre keressük a választ, hogy miért fontos a fenntarthatóság a közlekedési szektorban. Itt kitérünk majd olyan társadalmi relevanciákra is, mint az elektromobilitás munkaerőpiacra gyakorolt hatása, illetve az elektromobilitás általános előnyei az egyén és a társadalom szempontjából. A tanulmány főképp nemzetközi szakirodalomra támaszkodik. A téma kutatási, publikációs intenzitása arra utal, hogy az elektromobilitás ügye gazdaságilag, politikailag és társadalmilag egyaránt kiemelt figyelmet élvez globális és állami szinten. A tanulmány megállapításaiból kitűnik, hogy az elektromobilitás népszerűsítése, társadalomra gyakorolt hatása nagyfokú tudatosságot kíván meg, nem csak a társadalom politikai és gazdasági szereplőitől, de az egyéntől is.

Uğrunda mücadeleler verilen ve asırlarca farklı hâkimiyetler altında kalan Kudüs tarih boyunca hep “Halilullah” şehri olarak saygı görmüştür. Mukaddes belde Kudüs, İslam Tarihi boyunca ama özellikle Osmanlı asırlarında bütün dinlerin bir arada yaşayabildiği bir barış adası olmuştur.
Bugün Filistin meselesi sürekli dünya gündeminde yüz yıldır çözüme kavuşturulamıyor. Bu kavganın sebebi bütün dinler nazarında mukaddes sayılan Kudüs’ün ve Mescid-i Aksâ’nın bu topraklar üzerinde yer almasıdır.
Elinizdeki kitap, dünyanın göz bebeği olan Kudüs’ün tarihine ve önemine ışık tutmak amacıyla kaleme alındı. Kudüs’ün tarih sahnesine çıktığı zamanlardan günümüze kadar olan serüveni ve semavi dinler için taşıdığı önemi bütüncül bir bakış açısıyla 100 soruda (başlıkta) anlatıldı. Tarihi süreklilik gözetilerek seçilen sorular cevaplanırken olay örgülerinin arka planı ve sonrasında ortaya çıkan durumlar akıcı bir dille aktarıldı. Eserde verilen soruların cevapları titiz bir çalışmanın ürünü olarak ortaya konuldu. Kitap, güvenilir kaynaklara ve arşiv belgelerine ve onlara dayalı yapılan akademik çalışmalara müracaat edilerek yazıldı.
Elinizdeki kitap, Kudüs okumaları yapacaklar için ilk başvuru kitabı; Kudüs'e seyahat edecekler için de bir tarihi rehber olarak hazırlandı.

People abused by angry discipline as children, may tend to abuse or overly punish other people or themselves for perceived wrongs in their adult life. In some individuals, aggressive personality traits may be genetically inherited. The aggressive personality may feel weakened by having guidelines or boundaries for anger. Anger is a normal human emotion, and these guidelines can help express anger in a healthy way.

Some of Law and Economics’ basic claims have come to be criticized as a result of empirical findings that question their viability. Particularly, the premise that agents consistently act rationally and with their self-interest in mind seems problematic. What the consequences of the criticism mean for Law and Economics’ tenability depends largely on the questions whether (1) some elements are unassailable to the alternative’s objections and (2) the alternative is a systematic whole. It is argued that Law and Economics may be salvaged, if it is minimized and its ambitions are tempered. This means focusing on the stable, a priori, elements inherent to it.

This paper presents a frame work for hardware acceleration for post video processing system implemented on FPGA. The deblocking filter algorithms ported on SOC having Altera NIOS-II soft core processor.SOC designed with the help of SOPC builder .Custom instructions are chosen by identifying the most frequently used tasks in the algorithm and the instruction set of NIOS-II processor has been extended. Deblocking filter new instruction added to the processor that are implemented in hardware and interfaced to the NIOS-II processor. New instruction added to the processor to boost the performance of the deblocking filter algorithm. Use of custom instructions the implemented tasks have been accelerated by 5.88%. The benefit of the speed is obtained at the cost of very small hardware resources.

We propose that historical resource scarcity played a role in the evolution of gender norms inimical to women, cultures that persists to this day. This is a plausible thesis for three reasons. First, male dominance in some species of non-human primate may have been shaped by their resource environments. Second, the prehistoric human skeletal record suggests scarcity led to decline in girls’ share of nutrition in parts of the world. Third, poverty is observed to contribute to gender bias in intra-household resource allocations in less developed countries. The proposition that historical habitual scarcity may have engendered cultures of gender inequality is supported by our finding that nations’ historical resource endowments, measured by the availability of arable land, are negatively related to their present levels of gender inequality as gauged by, for example, the UNDP’s Gender Inequality Index. Modern-day zoos and aquariums market themselves as places of education and conservation. A recent study conducted by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) (Falk et al., 2007) is being widely heralded as the first direct evidence that visits to zoos and aquariums produce long-term positive effects on people’s attitudes toward other animals. In this paper, we address whether this conclusion is warranted by analyzing the study’s methodological soundness. We conclude that Falk et al. (2007) contains at least six major threats to methodological validity that undermine the authors’ conclusions. There remains no compelling evidence for the claim that zoos and aquariums promote attitude change, education, or interest in conservation in visitors, although further investigation of this possibility using methodologically sophisticated designs is warranted.

O periodo Pos-Revolucao Industrial foi marcado por uma profunda referencia ao trabalho, tanto na estruturacao social como na producao do sujeito moderno. Com a crise da sociedade centrada no trabalho, alguns valores e categorias sao resgatados e demandam uma nova caracterizacao. O dominio do trabalho na estruturacao social passa a ser questionado e surgem ideias que colocam o tempo livre, o ocio e o lazer no papel de elementos estruturantes do novo contexto social. Antes de posicionar-se sobre essa passagem de dominio, o texto discute e reflete sobre tais categorias, abrindo uma possibilidade clara de sua territorializacao no campo das ciencias sociais, e, de forma especial, na sua contribuicao a uma nova forma de producao subjetiva. We present a model of energy consumption in IP networks. Using this model, we identify energy ldquohotspotsrdquo and estimate how energy consumption will grow with increasing network capacity. Todaypsilas Internet uses less than 1% of the available electricity supply. However, network energy consumption could grow substantially as access rates increase.
