In the second book of the Legendborn series, Bree finds herself in the Regent's grasp, who will do whatever they can to stop the Order from knowing she is Author's Scion. They do not believe she is worthy because of who she is and they do not want to lose the power and control they have gained over hundreds of years.

The book started off great, but it slowly lost momentum because it went into the search of the now missing Nick, how Bree's powers came to be, how to control them, and the developing 'love triangle'. I can understand the need to find answers to her powers but this was most of this book's plot. There were only a few 'interruptions' of action and contact with Nick that broke her 'power search' apart so the book did not move along at a quick pace, and slowed more when the 'plot points' were repeated in every chapter.

Very disappointed with this book.

I don't understand how can a second book be even better than first one...

Wow i am loving the different magic system. And i appreciate the different perspective.

The story is good enough but the main character’s emotional outbursts are repetitive to the point of annoyance. It gets to the point where her likability is significantly diminished.

Fast paced and action packed!!! Loved it can wit for the other books!

A little disappointed in the ending, but everything can't end the way you want

I gave 4 stars because I think I'm not the target audience. I don't mind reading outside my range. If not for that I would give a 3, but I can see that if I were young and female, the annoying parts of this book would be a boon and shoot this to 5 stars :)

Book review:

I have finally finished another book of the TBR challenge (The one from July because I am incredibly late, I know). I could say that there are no words to describe how I am feeling, but that mst not be the end of this review, so I will try to elaborate.

Tracy Deonn is incredily skilled in bringing to life a world where characterrs breathe. The book claims to give the characters agency, giving back to black people the choices they were denied, opening them to the possibility to choose right or wrong in their own terms.

I loved that about the book, and that also made it challenging to accept the character's choices when it meant they left everytone else or headed towards a path of solitude to pursue their own ends. But this was the beauty of it all.

The endless creativity of the author gave life to an infinity of different options and paths I could not have forseen that wrapped me inside an ocean of wonder.

Even the suposed love triangle between Nick, Brie and Sel is tastefully crrafted, resting on the precarious balance of trust and betrayal the characters forge between one another.

As I read the book I observed how the importance of ancestory was highlighted through the novel, but even that notion is question and challenged, opening a path to forge one's own life. I loved that Brie is able to make her own decisions in spite of the rules, in spite of the lineage and in spite of the thebt she feels to her ancestors and the people around her, in name of discovering who she is. She is able to do so because she is able to accept the right and the wrong of herself, crafting power outside of the norm and the rule others have put in place.

This is such an incredible message that can teach us all something beyond the page, because as we are not involved in the magic and wonder of the table of Arthur, we are all inside a society that pushes and pulls us from every directtion, seeking our attention. This book teaches us that the woven path, what everyone believes and hopes we should be dowing, is not always what we should be doing. It showes us that oour choices matter , because as inddividual we matter and should have the power to choose, a power that too often is taken away from us, and that choice must not be taken for granted.

So if you have not read this book or this series, I highly recommend it. Allow yoourself to be mesmored by the enchanting magic, the incredible prose and the difficult path of the characters. I assure you, this is one of those stories that leaves on beyond the page.

This series is amazing, and I need to read the next one.

Bloodmarked is book two in the Legendborn cycle by Tracy Deonn, and I would give it 6 stars if I could !

I really loved the commentary on racism and prejudice, it reminded me of Octavia E. Butler's Fledgling but for young adults.

My mind is racing with so many questions, because of course it ended on a cliff hanger. Which, I'm not mad about, I expected the cliff hanger because there's supposed to be at the least one more book in the cycle.

I'm not sure what else to say other than my friends and I are definitely team Sel, the last part of the book had us shook, and we can't wait for the next book in the cycle! It's so nice to buddy read books with a book club.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars!

Filled with magic, magnificent worldbuilding and deep characters who suprise you.

This book was an ode to the ancestors. The ones that weren’t immortalized on papers. If there is one YA series you want to read let it be this!

When I discovered that the sequel was out, I was excited to see how the story with Bree would unfold. Well, this book tu took me on adventure and I really enjoyed it!

This was such a disappointment! The characters were soo out of character! Acting conveniently to the plot and completely randomly not following their personalities or desire’s or history. It was a meandering continuous back and forth where the author force the situation at every turn: oh Bree is too new and cannot use her powers for “x ridiculous reason”, oh now she is is the most powerful character ever to op… what? And the only consistent thing in the whole story was how Bree was insufrible throughout every one of the 1000 pages (at least that is how long it felt). The final twist was presented with no foreshadowing and a really weak explanation, with completely unconvincing motive and random lucky coincidences making it possible. I won’t read the next as I hate finish this one. It is such a great cry apart from the first book I don’t even want to risk giving a 3rs book a chance.

I tried for weeks to finish this audiobook but the horrible scottish accent made it unbearable. If you cant do a proper accent dont do the accent. I do mean it was HORRIBLE to the point I deleted the audiobook. Too bad because I really loved the first book. Also Brianna had ZERO character development. After everything she went through there should have been some level of growth and maturity. She seemed even less mature than the beginning of the first book.

This felt much longer than the first Legendborn book. Brianna was hard to like at times.

They turned the paragon of chivalry and virtue into the bad guy because of heavy handed racism and sexism. The MC cheats on the perfect-never-did-a-single-thing-wrong golden boy with the tortured bad boy. Was way more interested to see her struggle to come to terms with her controversial heritage but she just straight up chucked both sides out the window and said “nah.” Overall, I think the author’s intent was not to address the complexities of melding two conflicting cultures but to further divide them by insisting one side (that in the OG myths is supposed to be representing the highest standards of human ideals) is corrupt beyond repair and it’s founder was no better. I’m just upset that what looked like it was going to be an interesting attempt to bridge the gap in a fusion of culture and myths was turned into an obvious run of the mill story about institutional racism/sexism and a power hungry organization with an MC as likable as woodpecker that took an interest in your head. Some of this I feel I could have overlooked had the MC not cheated (emotionally and otherwise) on her basically perfect guy with a walking red flag. It is so ridiculously cliché I had to actively convince myself that no one would be that obvious. Maybe I’m being to harsh and overlooking something good that I liked. I really liked the first book. But this was possibly the most frustrated I have ever been over a book.

The way this book ended, it HAD to be a book 3!!! Please let there be a book 3. This book did not disappoint at all. Of course, Bree irked me in some parts of this book. But she does have that "Herion Syndrome," where she tries to do soooo much and everything is literally falling apart. But to be in love with 2 guys, what a "sticky situation." I love this series. If you're into fantasy, action, a mixture of past/present lineage, this is the book series for you.

I understand that many people have multiple options about this book, but for those of us (especially us black girls) who were the first? We totally get it

Could have benefited from some heavier editing. Characters choices became aggravating beyond belief and the love triangle was overdrawn. Seems like the books intention was to explain every aspect of the world/lore, magic, etc. Hoping the final book gets back to the brilliance of the first.

Overall a really compelling and gripping story line with great characters. The British and Scottish accents were not great, but otherwise the narration was very good.

Loved it overall. Loved the narration and the story. BRE is definitely a teen and acts like one often lol waiting impatiently for the next book

If you read the first one you definitely have to read this one.

not at all sure why the other reviews are so negative? this book was just as good as the first. it explores the world building in such an entertaining way and did not overly focus on the love triangle or too much drama. it was really well fleshed out and made me equally excited as I was listening to it. I'm really excited to see where it goes from here!! the exploration of racism in the world building is so thought out and really well done in my opinion. I loved the new characters and getting a better look at who Bree is trying to become and what she wants in life vs what everyone wants for her.
