Introduction
The End of My Rope Was the Beginning
I was so tired that my tired was tired.
Exhaustion pierced into every cell of my being. Don’t get me wrong—I’ve had days where I needed a cup of coffee to kick start a productive day, but THIS…THIS was not average tiredness. This was so different. It was a debilitating fatigue and an elevation of exhaustion I had never experienced. I felt the weight of the impossible crushing me. My brain refused sleep at 2:12 a.m. At some moments, my heart was racing so rapidly that I couldn’t breathe. For the first time ever, I started experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. If you’ve never had those, and all of a sudden, they punch you in the face, the experience will absolutely terrify you!
I’m a mom of two very active kids. I HAD to live on the go. But my body was refusing every effort I could squander up. Before, I’d always been a people person, a people pleaser, and a helper, and I loved large gatherings with friends. But now, for some strange reason, I became fearful and anxious of being in crowds—even small ones. Small things would send me into uncontrollable crying frenzies; I’d become an emotional wreck for no reason. A deep, dark cloud of depression became my new shadow. I was worn out from trying, striving. The emotional demands kept bringing relentless fatigue, stress, hormonal strains, and burnout.
Almost overnight, I became an emotional and physical basket case, and I couldn’t understand how I, the type A extrovert, had even gotten there.
I would have paid my life’s savings for someone to get my kids up and ready for school. My body was physically present, but my brain fog did not allow me to be fully present
with my family or work. Everything was a blur. Work was almost impossible.
Who would have thought putting a load of laundry in the washer would be so daunting? Just stopping to get milk felt as if I had run a marathon. Twelve hours of sleep were never enough, yet I could not fall asleep at night because my mind ran races that never seemed to have a finish line.
The eye-opener came when I forgot to pick up my kids from school because my brain fog had me on lockdown. Now, WHO DOES THAT? I got the Mom Fail Card that day!
THIS is where I was. But this is not who I am.
I found myself on the ground, covered in sloppy tears, crying out to God in despair. My rope only had a few threads left. I was losing it.
The Typical Healthcare Route Had No Answers
Your lab tests are completely ok. There’s nothing wrong with you. We just need to put on you on depression medicine.
This was the general news I got from the several doctors I saw.
How could they say there was nothing wrong with me?
I felt as if they were talking to me like I was crazy…as if I had lost my mind. If something similar has happened to you, maybe you are feeling me here?
I may have looked perfectly fine on the outside, but I was a broken-down train wreck on the inside. Without proper lab work to prove what was taking place, the conventional medicine route left me feeling lost and alone. I even doubted my own feelings that something was physically wrong! Maybe I was depressed, as the doctors said. Maybe it was all in my head, as they inferred.
But I couldn’t accept that diagnosis. I knew without a doubt that something was going on in my body that they weren’t seeing.

Taking Stock of My Situation
Let’s back up. I didn’t get here overnight.
My current situation had come from a slow progression and buildup of many stressful or grieving events in my forty-plus years on this earth. Being a type A personality, I had a drive for perfection. I
