family and being your childs teacher. Each and every child has so many gifts and qualities to offer others. I look forward to watching them grow up through the rest of their elementary years. All of them together made for a fun, light hearted, warm and wonderful place to spend the past year. I will truly miss each child!! I learned so much from them and I believe they learned a lot from each other as well. Because of the compassion they showed each other, their wit, and kind-heartedness, I couldnt imagine a better way to spend the past 169 school days then being with them! I love them all and am very proud of them all! Field day was so much fun and I know the kids had a great time. I took a few pictures of the students that I will down-load to my classroom blog.
Because this will be my final newsletter to you, I want to thank you for your contributions of time and extra supplies you gave to our class. The time you spent with your child practicing their take home END OF YEAR PACKET:
I cant believe how fast the year went. It seems just like yesterday we were on day 10. I am very proud of your child. They worked very hard in first grade. Each child will be bringing home an envelope with many things in it on Friday, our final day. I will have it in an envelope with other treasures including the progress report, a small parent letter that includes suggestions for summer activities, more scroll pag- es you can copy for them, information on summer reading, a note from the 2nd grade teachers, and a special book that I hope you love which shows the growth your child made this year.
T he H appenings in Room 21! June 5, 2014 ENJOY YOUR SPELLING: I am keeping these 40 words on the newsletter. Although we have taken the end of the year test, you can practice these over the summer. If your child really wants to do more, have them practice more words from other lists of words in the giraffe book. Have fun!
Warmly,

They all worked so hard on getting to the level they ended the year with. Each child was retelling sto- ries with important details, using strategies to help them when they get stuck on a word, reading with expression and fluency, and their confidence soared at the end of the year. My worry is, many chil- dren will regress over the summer because they choose not to read in the summer, and I dont want that for these young readers! They will also have their giraffe books to practice reading. Your child will be receiving an orange pamphlet in their end of the year packet, that will tell you all about Rockfords Summer Reading Program. Get excited with your child about this reading this summer!
