CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the research design used, population and sample, the

research instrument, validation of the instrument, the data gathering procedures

and the statistical treatment used by the researchers.

Research Design

The researchers will use the descriptive correlational design for this study.

According to Judith Quaranta (2016), descriptive research is a study in which the

researcher is primarily interested in describing relationships among variables, without

seeking to establish a causal connection. while correlation research is type of

nonexperimental research in which the researcher measures two variables and

assesses the statistical relationship (i.e., the correlation) between them with little or no

effort to control extraneous variables. In this study the features of Indaman: 2D mobile

game have that students most likely to play will be described while the relationship

between/ differences effective of Indaman Mobile Game as an alternative learning

material will be measured. Furthermore, this study will not use any experimental

manipulation.

Population and Sample

The subjects of the study are the Senior High ICT Students of University of

Batangas. Based on the records of the respondents there are 79 (Seventy-nine)

respondents . Due to the big number of population, the researchers determined the
sample size using the formula given by the National Education Association in United

States to compute for the needed sample size (Barrot, 2017). The formula used is:

𝑠 = 𝑥 2 𝑁𝑃(1 − 𝑃)
𝑑2 (𝑁 − 1) + 𝑥 2 𝑃(1 − 𝑃)

where:
s = required sample size
x² = table value of chi-square for 1 degree of freedom at desired
confidence level (1.96)2
N= population size
P= population proportion (0.5)
d= the degree of accuracy expressed as proportion (0.05)

The researchers arrived at 79 number of respondents in this study. The

researchers retrieved the questionnaires from the respondents soon after they

had finished answering the instrument. Through the cooperation of the senior

high school students as the respondents.

Survey questionnaire will be used as the main data gathering instrument to

acquire information needed for the study. It enables to reflect on what the respondents

think and their own perspective about the certain topic. The questionnaire was made by

the researchers with the help of some books and other reference materials concerning

the study. This survey questionnaire contains questions regarding the profile of the

respondents where their names is optional, year level and their years of using Indaman;

a mobile game are involved.

Likert Scale will be used to indicate the participants’ level of agreement with a

specific statement.
Validation of the Research Instrument

Before the distribution of questionnaires, the researchers presented it first to their

research adviser and strand expert for their approval. Some items are asked to be

removed because those were not covered by the study; while other items were added to

fully address the purpose of the study.

The approval of the adviser and the strand expert is necessary for the validation

of the questionnaire.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researchers will conduct the survey in a span of two weeks. They will

approach the ICT Senior High School Students to answer the questionnaires. The

researchers will personally explain the purpose and directions on how the respondents

should answer the questionnaires given. They are expecting that the distributed

questionnaires will be retrieved within two weeks also.

Statistical Treatment

The data gathered will be tallied, analyzed, and statistically treated in order to

come up with the findings. The researchers will use the following statistical measures to

analyze the gathered data.

. Percentage. This method determines proportion of the responses of the

participants to its total number of participants. In this study, it will be used to describe

the profile of the respondents. To acquire this, the formula is:

f
p x100%
n

where: P = percentage
f = frequency
n = total number of respondents

Weighted Mean Weighted Mean. It is used in assessing the awareness of Senior

High school students about laundry detergents. It is an average in which each quantity

is assigned a weight, and these weightings determine the relative importance of each

 xw
quantity on the average. To get the weighted mean, the formula is: x 
w

Where x = mean

x = measurement or value

w = number of measurement
