RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

The researchers used quantitative research as the research method for the

conducted study. The sampling method used by the researchers is a quota sampling in

order to distinguish the cause-effect relationship of caffeine intake and the numerical

reasoning of grade 10 students of Sta. Elena High School. Test questionnaires were used

by the researchers for the data gathering procedure. Statistical treatment was then applied

to the gathered data in order to verify if there is a cause-effect relationship of caffeine

intake and numerical reasoning of grade 10 students of Sta. Elena High School.

POPULATION AND SAMPLE

The researchers used quota sampling technique. The researchers’ respondents are

the Grade 10 STE students of Sta. Elena High School, this helped the researchers manage

their population within the allotted time frame. The budget of the researchers was also a

factor for picking quota sampling. Slovin’s formula was used to get the sample used with

the population of the grade 10 STE students being 76.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

ii
STA. ELENA HIGH SCHOOL
The researchers used 10 item test questionnaires to gather imperative data that

was then used to conclude if there was a cause-effect relationship between caffeine intake

and the numerical reasoning of grade 10 students of Sta. Elena High School.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researchers randomly chose 10 students from the 2 sections of grade 10 STE

(Science, Technology, and Engineering) in order to conduct the various tests. The tests

were then given to the respondents and the data given to the researchers were then

organized by the researchers.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

To interpret the data gathered from the test questionnaires, the researchers will

apply the various statistical treatments to interpret the data effectively. z-Test, Pearson-r

Correlation are some of the statistical treatment the researchers deemed useful in

answering the proposed hypotheses.

1. z -Test

This statistical treatment would determine the level of significance

between the presence and absence of caffeine to their numerical reasoning.

2. Pearson-r Correlation

This statistical treatment would determine the correlation between caffeine

intake and numerical reasoning.

3. One-way ANOVA

This statistical treatment is used to determine if there are any statistically

significant differences between the means of two or more independent

(unrelated) groups which is the batch with caffeine and batch without

caffeine.
