1. smART RC Plus recloser
Arteche has extensive experience in medium voltage power grid automation. With more than 25
years of experience dedicated to innovation in this area, Arteche manufactured its first three-
phase vacuum recloser with its own technology more than 15 years ago. Today thousands of
Arteche reclosers are contributing to improve the quality of service in medium voltage distribution
networks.

Thanks to the knowledge gained, the new smART RC Plus recloser combines the robustness,
reliability and performance required to deploy the most demanding distribution automation
functions and other Smart Grid applications.

The new smART RC Plus recloser is manufactured under LEAN processes, stringent quality controls
and complete routine tests to ensure the excellent performance of each device throughout its
useful life.

In addition, our specialized support and a full range of value-added services guarantee the correct
performance of each recloser throughout its entire life cycle.

3. Main Advantages of the smArt RC PLUS
Circuit breaker and recloser tank
›› Highly reliable and low maintenance circuit breaker thanks to vacuum
technology, a magnetic drive and a solid dielectric insulation.
›› The recloser has been tested to ensure 10,000 mechanical operations
at full load.
›› Fault breaking capacity up to 16 kA
›› Magnetic actuator:
›› Synchronized actuation guaranteed by a single magnetic actuator
that operates on a single shaft to move the three contacts
simultaneously.
›› Does not require any maintenance or adjustment.
›› Voltage sensors: Three (3), four (4) or six (6) resistive voltage sensors,
embedded in cycloaliphatic resin.
›› Current transformers embedded in the pole with several possibilities
of current ratios
›› Nominal currents: 400, 560, 630 and 800 A. Other currents for
higher sensitivity, under request.
›› Ratio X:1 or X:5
›› Class IV Pollution IEC: 31 mm / kV.
›› Recloser tank completely sealed on its sides exposed to the outdoors

›› Recloser tank with high quality finishes, post-zinc plating according to
DIN 50979 and optionally stainless steel.

›› Compact Control box either in zinc plated steel, stainless steel or
aluminium to ensure a superior resistance to corrosion, especially
in environments of high salinity or where there are other corrosive
chemicals.
›› Devicewithout forced ventilation or moving parts for reduced
maintenance and longer service life.

›› All the risk components are located inside the control box, protected
by a double pivoting door to avoid accidental access to energized
parts.
›› All the auxiliary circuits have individual protective elements
›› Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) with advanced protection,
monitoring, control and metering features under IEC 61850 or other
telecontrol protocols such as DNP3.0, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-

4. Installation options
smART RC Plus reclosers can be installed in different places and environments,
both in radial and in coupling nodes, where the compliance of grid coupling
conditions can be guaranteed. This feature makes them particularly interesting
for small renewable generation facilities.

The smArt RC Plus can be installed pole mounted or directly on a substation

type frame. Arteche supplies the frames and accessories required to give an
answer according the needs of each installation.

Protection relay
Arteche supplies in its recloser its own specialized controllers. In addition
to their normal protection and reclosing functions, their extensive
communication capacities facilitate their remote operation, both
integrated in SCADA, DMS systems and in other specialized applications
in Automation of Distribution. The capacities for logic processing allow
the deployment of distributed reconfiguration algorithms, based on
horizontal communications, as is the example of the GOOSE messages
under standard IEC61850.

Optionally and under specification of the client, the control box can be
supplied with an IED from another manufacturer. We have approved
the correct performance of protections and controllers of the major ›› smART P500 ›› adaTECH RC
manufacturers with our recloser.

Our specialized knowledge as a recloser manufacturer and a deep
experience in application engineering make us the best choice to
support the entire life cycle. Arteche offers a comprehensive range of
value-added services adapted to each stage of the recloser life cycle,
maximizing the equipment lifetime at a minimum cost and taking
advantage of the potential they offer.

›› Specialized training: Training on handling Arteche reclosers for

specialists with different technical profiles:
›› Training for operation and maintenance technicians: Criteria
for safe operation, remote and manual operation of the recloser,
routine inspection points, handling of software tools for obtaining
local data, events and alarms.
›› Training for operational coordination and planning engineers:
Training on handling of software tools, data mining, integration
of equipment in Smart Grids (SG), calculations of selectivity and
principles of application of the reclosers.
›› Factory acceptance tests: Guarantee in factory the correct
performance of each recloser as a whole prior to installation. When
the reclosers include third-party components (radios, protections,
accessories) it is possible to incorporate additional validation points
/ test procedures and ensure the performance of the set prior to
shipment.
›› Adjustment and coordination of protections: Studies of short circuit
levels based on the topology of the grid and operating preferences
to define the operating time characteristic, the inverse curves and
the appropriate settings for each node in the medium voltage grid.
›› Supervision and commissioning: When required, our specialist
engineers accompany recloser commissioning supervising their
correct installation, validation and start up.
›› Integration in SCADA/EMS: Specialized support for the integration
of the reclosers in telecontrol systems under different protocols,
such as DNP3.0, IEC 60870-5-104 or IEC 61850.
›› Preventive and predictive maintenance: Arteche offers value-added
services for preventive and predictive maintenance of reclosers.
These services include periodic inspections of the installed
equipment, in which control points are reviewed and functional
tests are carried out which ensure the proper performance of each
recloser. These services enable the early detection of potential future
issues, minimizing maintenance costs and impact of corrective
actions arising.
›› After-sales service and supply of spare parts: Supply of components
and spare parts for the correct maintenance of the equipment
throughout its useful life.
