Major Classes of Biomolecules Explained

The document discusses the major categories of biomolecules including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. It provides examples of foods that fall into carbohydrate and protein groups, and describes the functions of these biomolecules. The document also discusses diseases related to protein deficiency, the importance of DNA and RNA, examples of consuming protein foods and their benefits, and components of DNA and RNA molecules.

LAS 4- Recognize the Major Categories of Biomolecules Such as Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and
Nucleic Acids

Pre-Test:

1. C
2. C
3. C
4. B
5. A

Analysis:

Group Functions

Great source of carbohydrates that provides

energy to body and nervous system.

GROUP 1

Group 2

Source of protein that is responsible for

rebuilding body system.

1. What are the foods belong to group 1? In group 2?

Group 1: Bread, rice, sweet potato, milk, lard, corn and butter.
Group 2: Eggs, nuts, fish, chicken and broccoli.
2. What is your basis in grouping the foods?
-The nutrients/function that they provide to our body.

Abstraction:

1. Marasmus and Kwashiorkor are the diseases which has deficiency in proteins. These diseases are
common in children. How are we going to fight this kind of diseases?

- Foods that are full of nutrients such as eggs, nuts, milk and lean meat must be given to supply
protein to the body. B-12 and B-6 vitamins can also help to increase the protein inside the body.

2. What is the importance of DNA and RNA?

-Both DNA and RNA contain nucleic acid that is the most important macromolecules for the continuity of
life. They carry the genetic blueprint of a cell and carry instructions for the functioning of the cell.

Application:

1. Identify the proteins foods that you eat in breakfast, lunch and dinner. How this food helps you to
become healthy?

-The protein foods that I consume for a day are eggs, lean meat and fish. This helps me to keep my hair,
nails, bones, and muscles healthy in quality. Protein gives tissues and organs their shape and also helps
them work the way they should.

2. What are the components of DNA and RNA molecules?

-Both DNA and RNA are made up of nucleotides, each containing a five-carbon sugar backbone, a
phosphate group, and a nitrogen base.

3. What nitrogenous base is found in RNA but not in RNA?

- Uracil is the nitrogenous base present only in RNA, but not in DNA.
