2 Ventilation
2.1 Ventilation general
The ventilation is normally used to release heat and humidity, you can set the desired ventilation
temperature in the Basic menu. There are also influences possible by Humidity, radiation, outside
temperature.
The influences are not so much direct effect on the window position, but more to the desired climate in
the greenhouse. After all, there are more methods to achieve the desired temperature. For example, a
window position wind side of 50% is under certain conditions the same as 10% however, the required
ventilation temperature will be the same.

‘Ventilation setpoint [ C]’
of the copyright owner.

The line set here represents the ventilation setpoint. If the measured air temperature rises above this
line, then the vents will open.
o
‘Absolute maximum ventilation setpoint [ C]’
The calculated ventilation setpoint will never exceed the absolute maximum ventilation setpoint set
here, regardless of the pre-set influences.

‘Minimum decrease rate of ventilation setpoint [°C/h]’

This sets the maximum value in [°C] that the ventilation setpoint may drop per hour. This setting
prevents the ventilation setpoint from dropping too quickly as a result of light or humidity influences.

Example:
The ventilation setpoint needs to be lowered by 2.0 [°C] as a result of humidity influences. The
maximum decrease rate of the ventilation setpoint has been set to 1.0 [°C]/hour.
This means that it will take (2.0 [°C] ÷ 1.0 [°C]/hour =) 2 hours before the influence has been fully

applied.

‘Disable increase/decrease rate once’

This allows you to disable the restrictions imposed by the settings Maximum increase rate of
ventilation setpoint and Maximum decrease rate of ventilation setpoint once. After which this setting
will revert back to No automatically.

‘Ventilation setpoint above heating setpoint [°C]’

To prevent the ventilation setpoint from dropping too low because of light or humidity influences, this
setting enables you to specify how closely the ventilation setpoint may approach the heating setpoint.
If a negative value is set, then the ventilation setpoint may drop below the heating setpoint.

‘Maximum influence on ventilation setpoint [°C]’

The value in [°C] set here is the maximum influence that may be applied to the pre-set ventilation line.
If all the influences on the ventilation setpoint added together exceed this maximum, then the pre-set
ventilation line will not be corrected by more than this value.

‘Frost threshold [°C]’

If the outside temperature drops below the value set here, then the vents will close. The vents will not
open for any reason until the temperature rises above freezing.

The order of the vent position overrides:

1) Fixed vent position
2) Frost threshold
of the copyright owner.

The minimum and maximum leeward and windward vent positions will be set to 0%, the calculated
vent positions will be set to 0%, and the vents will remain closed.
3) Gales
The minimum and maximum leeward and windward vent positions will be adjusted to the pre-set gale
vent positions. The calculated vent positions will also be adjusted to these pre-set values. Finally, the
vents will be adjusted to the gale position.
4) Maximum vent position
Wind or rain may cause the maximum vent position to become smaller than the pre-set maximum vent
position. The smallest maximum vent position will be applied.
5) Minimum vent position
Influences may cause the minimum vent position to become greater or less than the pre-set minimum
vent position. The greatest minimum vent position will be applied.

‘Zone above frost threshold [°C]’

If the outside temperature rises above the value ‘Frost threshold [°C]’, increased by the value
entered for the setting ‘Zone above frost threshold’ then the vents will be released.

‘Transition point for screen open/closed [%]’

This setting allows you to specify at which screen position a ventilation group should consider the

‘Wind speed for gale vent position when screen open [m/s]’
‘Wind speed for gale vent position when screen closed [m/s]’
If the measured wind speed exceeds the value set here, the Gale maximum vent position override will
become active. As a result, the vents will be adjusted to the pre-set gale vent position.

‘Minimum duration of maximum vent position when rain override active [min]’
If the Rain override is active and the rain stops, the Rain override will remain active for the time set
here. This prevents the vents from constantly opening and closing in the event of very light rainfall.
Once it has stopped raining for the time set here, the vents will be released and may re-open

‘Wind speed factor for cancel gale status’

Once the smoothed wind speed falls below the percentage of the ‘open’ or ‘Wind speed for gale vent
position when screen closed‘ set here, the Gale status will be cancelled.

Example:
The Wind speed for gale vent position when screen closed has been set to 20 [m/s] (unsmoothed).
The Wind speed factor for cancel gale status has been set to 70 [%].
The Gale status will be cancelled once the smoothed wind speed falls below 0.7 x 20 = 14 [m/s].

‘Minimum duration of fixed vent position when gale override active [min]’
If the Gale override is active and the measured wind speed falls below the wind speed set for gale
vent position Screen Open/Closed , the Gale override will remain active for the time set here. This
prevents the vents from constantly opening and closing in the event of strong wind speed fluctuations.
Once the measured wind speed has remained below the pre-set gale override for the time set here,

‘Delay time for wind changeover [min]’

If the leeward side and windward side need to be switched due to a change in wind direction, the
delay time set here is observed before they are actually switched. This means that the wind must blow
from the leeward side for at least the time set here, before the wind reversal will be implemented. This
prevents the leeward side and windward side from constantly switching if the wind direction matches
the ridge direction of your greenhouse.

‘Influence on pre-set ventilation setpoint [ C]’
The influence (positive or negative ) set here is added to the ventilation setpoint of this ventilation

Example:
The Influence on pre-set ventilation setpoint has been set to 2 [°C].
This means the ventilation group will not start ventilating until the temperature in the block exceeds the
calculated ventilation setpoint of that block by more than 2 [°C]

A P-band controller is to control on the basis of the proportional difference between a set value and a
measured value.
The P-band settings for ventilation leeward and windward side looks at the difference between the
calculated ventilation temperature and measured outside temperature. When the outside temperature
is higher the cooling effect of ventilation will be lower and, therefore, the windows must open further in
order to get it. An equal cooling effect.

If the outside wind speed exceeds the value set for the ‘Wind speed for gale vent position when
screen open / close’ then the air vents are adjusted to the position set here.

A screen is considered open or closed depending on the setting ‘Transition point for screen
open/closed’. Please note that this is a fixed vent position and not a limit on the minimum or
maximum vent positions. Only frost protection takes precedence over this gale protection setting.

‘Start of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen open [m/s]’

‘End of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen open [m/s]’
‘Start of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen closed [m/s]’
‘End of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen closed [m/s]’
‘Maximum vent position at end of wind speed trajectory [%]’
If the measured wind speed exceeds the value set here, the maximum vent positions will be adjusted
back from 100%.If the measured wind speed equals or exceeds the value set for the ‘End of wind
speed trajectory for vent position when screen open’, the Wind speed override will be at its
maximum. The maximum vent positions that are in effect in that case are set in ‘Maximum vent
position at end of wind speed trajectory’.

Example:
‘Start of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen open’ has been set to 4 m/s.
‘End of wind speed trajectory for vent position when screen open’ has been set to 14 m/s.
‘Maximum vent position at end of wind speed trajectory’ has been set to 20%.

At a measured wind speed equal to or less than 4m/s, the vents may still open to a maximum of 100%.
At a measured wind speed equal to or greater than 14m/s, the vents may open to a maximum of 20%.
At a measured wind speed of 9m/s, the vents may only open to maximum of 60%.

As the example shows, the maximum vent positions are adjusted proportionally, depending on the
measured wind speed and the position of the measured wind speed in the pre-set wind trajectory. If
another maximum vent position override is active in addition to the Wind speed limit, for example Rain,
the override which results in the smallest maximum vent position will be applied.

If this difference is greater than half of the pre-set dead zone, the total difference will be used to
calculate the humidity influence on the standard vent position.

Formula:
Humidity influence standard vent position too humid = (RH Setpoint - Measured RH) x Adjustment.

Example of humidity influence calculation if it is too humid:

‘RH setpoint’ has been set to 80%.
‘Dead zone of RH influence on standard vent position [%]’ has been set to 2%.
‘Start of wind speed trajectory for humidity increase of standard vent position if too humid’ has
been set to 3m/s.
‘RH increase of standard vent position if too humid at start of wind speed trajectory’ has been

‘End of wind speed trajectory for humidity increase of standard vent position if too humid’ has
been set to 13m/s.
‘RH increase of standard vent position if too humid at end of wind speed trajectory’ has been
set to 1%/%.
‘Maximum humidity increase of standard vent position if too humid’ has been set to 5%.

If the measured radiation intensity exceeds the value in [W/cm2] set here, the screen will close to the
position set for the ‘Screen position 1-4’, once the ‘Delay time for close screen’ has elapsed.
2
‘Decrease of min. radiation intensity for open screen position 1-4 [W/m ]’
The value set here creates a zone below the ‘Minimum radiation intensity for close to screen
