1 Preface
Thanks for using JW-GC series combined metal detector with checkweigher..
In order to operate and maintenance the machine well, this manual will give a
detailed instruction about its function and operations.

max height is 120mm, first combined metal detector with checkweigher of first
generation.
1.2 Precautions
1.Work environment:
Temperature:0~40℃
Moisture:35~85%
6.Interference source: keep it far away or shielded. Stay far away from big
movable metal object and machines who creates a magnetic field
7.Use independent power cable, don’t use cable with other machine that’s
easy to make noise.
8.The first running after power on, the load cell should be calibrated.
9.Pls cut the power off when maintain or clean the machine.
11.Do not bump and press on the weigh conveyor when cleaning or repair in
order to protect the load cell.
12. When the machine is working, don’t put any parts of body into the running
part of machine, avoid hurting.
13. When the machine is working, pls stay away from rejecting device acting

3 Work Theory
The machine has two function: metal detecting and weight checking
1.Metal detector adopts the theory of electromagnetic induction to detect, detecting
head completes this function.
1 Detecting head is made of three loops which is circled on the fixed
frame(there is one launching loop and two receiving loops.). Launching loop forms a
fixed magnetic field, and receiving loops create electric signal according to
electromagnetic induction, forming a detecting passageway, as chart 3.1.1

3 When the package contents with metal material passed through detecting
passageway, it causes magnetic filed’s change, broking system’s balanced condition,
as chart 3.1.3.

4 The electric voltage isn’t balanced again when there is metal material in the
loops, so loops’ electric signal change, then detecting head will deal with the signal,
and judge whether there is metal material in the package or not, as chart 3.1.4

5 If detecting head’s mother board judges that package contents material, it
will send alarm signal to PLC. Then after signal delay dealing, PLC will start reject
device and reject package with metal material.
2. The weight detecting and selecting of checkweigher is completed by load cell, AD
modular, PLC and reject device.
1 Load cells transform the weight informations to analog signals, which exist
in the form of voltage.
2 AD modular makes analog to digital conversions for collected analog
signals (collecting in the 120HZ). The analog signals is transformed to
corresponding weight figure(that’s, the real time weight of the package on the
convey belt).
3 PLC reads the weight calculated by AD modular, it analyzes and calculate
all the weight figures of detecting package passing weighing belt and judge whether
the weight figure falls into needed weight range or not at the same time. If not, the
machine will start reject device to reject unqualified weight package.
3. If one package is detected that it contents metal material and also unqualified
weight, the machine will take metal reject device as first choice.

4 Machine structure
4.1 Simple diagram

Combined metal detector with checkweigher’s basic structure is as chart 4.1.1,
function of each parts is as below:
1.Detecting head: collect signal, deal with signal, control metal detecting and
send metal alarm signal to PLC
2.Conveying device: Convey packages, it’s made of convey belt(metal convey
belt, weigh convey belt and reject belt), motor, axis and supporting plate etc.
3.Touch screen: Interactive interface between operating people and machine
4.Electrical control box: power supply for detecting head and AD modular, PLC
is built-in electrical box, to deal with signals of detecting head and AD modular, and
control convey belt motor and motions of reject device.
5.Photoelectric switch: It is used to determine product’s piece,bags are too
close or not
6.AD modular, load cell: collect weight figures, calculate and send instant
signals to PLC.

locating pin(2) aim at holder(3), press according the direction of arrow indicating
until the position (4), then lock pull clasp well. Be careful to protect the load cell.

2.Adjust the tightness and deviation of the conveyor as Chart 4.3.2.2 shows. Slide
adjustable wheel, clockwise is to tighten and counterclockwise loosen. The distance
between the conveyor and holder is recommended 1 mm.

5 Daily Operation
5.1 User login
When the machine is connected with power supply, it enters user login menu
automatically, as chart 5.1.1.

operate all the operation function for lower grade.When the current login user's
operating authority is lower than the required permissions,the operation manual will
shows “ ”, then please return to the user login interface to enter a higher
level password.

1.The first line of screen is status bar, displaying the current menu’s name,
user level grade and system’s date and time.
2.Run: enter auto run menu.Need to execute “Zero” first, then the “Run” button
can be pressed, Run interface cannot access before finish Zeroing.

4.Manual: enter manual test menu
5.Program set: enter program setup page

1.Indicate light: red means the machine stops working; green means the

4.Checking Sp.:detecting package’s speed, it is updated each 1
minute.(bag/min)

8.Time Not Zero:Display the time from last successful zeroing time up to

11.Weight Reject:Classifying and statistic of the product which is exceed the
maximum setting of weights (Upper limit weight = Target weight + Upper deviation
weight).Or which is under the maximum setting of weights. (Upper limit weight =
target weight - lower deviation weight).
12.Pass:Classifying and statistic pf the qualified products.
13.Metal Reject:To Sum up the unqualified products.
14.Total : Classifying and statistic of all product which involved in weight
testing.
15.Weight:statistic the total weight of each product (unit: kg).
16.Bags:Statistics of the total number of products (units: pcs)
17.Percent : Statistics of the Percentage of number for various product
packages to total packages in all categories.(units: %)
18.Average:Statistics the average weight of the number of packages.
19.Alarm Off/On:switch for alarming intensive bags
1 Alarm On:when open such alarm function, if there is more than one bag
passing through weighing convey belt at the same time, the machine will stop and
alarm. The screen will shows “Bags are too close, pls reset!” As chart 5.3.2 shows.

Attentions: If close alarm function, even there are more than one bag

passing through weighing convey belt at the same time, the machine
keeps running. So it is possible that checkweigher doesn’t weigh correctly.
Pls use such function carefully.
20.Photocell unnormal alarm: When the continuous conduction time of
Photocell is longer than the material through the weighing belt length, the machine
will automatically stop running, and sound and light alarm at the same time,the
display will prompt "Photocell abnormal alarm" As chart 5.3.3

26.Signal wave shape:As chart 5.3.8, the grid area is signal wave shape
display area. Blue curve is signal 1, red curve is signal 2. Threshold area is the area
between two brown line. When wave shape over threshold area, alarm occurs, it
means that metal material is detected.

29.Exit : Exit auto run and back to main menu.During operation, when the
"Exit" button is gray, it means invalid operation. It is valid only after about 1 second
after stopping the operation. The system will save the running record after exiting.

a. Signal monitoring:Display the status of the input and output port signals, the red
light indicates that there is no corresponding input and output signal, and the
green light indicates that there is signal input or output.
b. Signal test: Each output port is equipped with a manual signal test button. For
example, after pressing "OFF", the button displays "ON" and then the
corresponding output port signal can be outputted. Press it again, and the
corresponding output port signal is turned off.
c. Free port:The functions of all input ports and output ports can be freely defined,
and the functions can be switched by touching the corresponding buttons; you
can also input the function code in the yellow windows.

figure of histogram’s position show the bag quantity falls into such divided area.
Axis Y refers to the percents of bags in this area in total bags. The proportion of
histograms’ different colors in a total chart show the percentage.

USB port before machine running. When start running, the weighing results will be
stored into U disk. Run the interface There will generate a record file (.csv form file)
after exit. Before pulling out the U disk, please go to the statistical interface to
pop-up U disk, or it will be damaged.
2.To export the production record from statistical interface: First, enter the
statistical interface, insert the USB disk into the USB port of touch screen, and then
touch the bottom of "Copy To USB" to save all the production records, after that, it
will generate a log file (.csv form file). The U disk will pop up automatically after
finished.

9.Zero:Touch this bottom, the Zero floating for load cell will be clear
automatically, and the current weight for load cell is 0.
10.Static weighing: Do not start the motor, put the product on the weighing
conveyor belt, and then press the "weighing" button, it will display "weighing".When
the number of samples reached 300 times, the weight of the product is calculated,
displayed on the screen.
11.Dynamic weighing: First start the motor, and then press the "weighing"
button,put the product on the front side of the belt, after passing the weighing
conveyor belt, the product weight will be calculated and display on the screen
automatically by system which is according to the "weighing delay", "weighing time”.
12.Auto Set OFF: When we first get the product to be weighed, we can not
determine what parameters need to be set to ensure the accuracy of the weighing
results. We can complete it well through the product parameters from self-learning
process. Enter the appropriate "fluctuation range", press the button of "Auto Set
OFF", then it will appears "Auto Set ON", while the motor will automatically running.
The system will automatically in the "weighing" state, put the product in front end of
the belt, after passing the weighing conveyor belt, there will be message of "Auto
Setting, please wait ...", then we have to wait for the system based on the
characteristics of the product. It will automatically calculate appropriate parameter,
such as "weighing delay" , "Weighing time", "clear delay". At the same time, it will
update the corresponding parameter value and display on the screen. Do not put the
second package before the end of the learning process.
13.Save:save the current parameters to correspond program number.
14.Exit:exit program set, back to main menu.
15.In the Run interface,touch“Oscilloscope”button,will enter the input and

output signal I/O Monitor interface,as shown in chart 5.5.2;The sampling data is
displayed on the screen in an XY graph, which can more intuitively display the
weight change on the load cell (blue line) when the material passes through the
weigh section belt, and the red line is the sampling weight data.
Change the value of "X upper limit", "X under limit", "Y upper limit", "Y under
limit" to adjust the waveform display position; "Magnifier" is used to quickly display
the waveform of the sampled data in a stable state, as shown in Figure 5.5.3;
"Initialize" can quickly return the sample data waveform to the original display state

16.Samp. data: Enter the sampling data interface. Sampling data is used to
display the real-time weighing data, which the product after passing the weighing
belt and different time point to arrive at the photocell eye. Through the analysis of
the sampling data, we can manual setting for "weighing delay", "weighing time",

"clear delay" Please refer to the chart such as 5.5.4 and 5.5.5 for sampling data,
which is introduce the self-learning calculation process.

a. Parameter calculation for "Weighing delay" and "weighing time": From the
charts of the weight data analysis, the maximum weight is 999.5g. The first time
to reach the maximum weight data address is 74. What we set for fluctuation
range is 2g (see chart of 5.5.1), that is, the stability of the weight is 997.5g ~
999.5g. From data address 74 to find the first weight which is less than 997.5g
and data address is 60(First address). And then from data address 74 we can
find the last one which it’s weight is less than 999.5g, and the address is 113.
Therefore, the time range of weight stable is 60 ~ 113; The number of

continuous and stable weights, that is, the sampling interval is 113-60=53. The
material arrives at the photoelectric eye and starts sampling. The time elapsed
when the sampling reaches the first address is the "weighing delay", and the
time corresponding to the sampling interval is the "weighing time". AD module
board data sampling frequency is 120Hz/s, you can calculate the weighing time
parameters: (53*1000+60)/120 = 442 ms, The weighing delay parameter is :
(60*1000+60)/120 = 500 ms.
b. The calculation for "Zero delay" parameter: From the analysis of the weight data
in the chart, we can see that the product weight from smaller to big, until to be
stable, and then from bigger to small, until to 0. The best time to choose Clear
Delay is when product passing weighing conveyor and the weight from bigger to
small, until to zero point. There is "clear weight" parameter in interface in
Subsequent chapters.From the chart, when the value is 0.5g, the first time point
is 168 when the weight dropped in 0.5g. In order to ensure the correctness of
the clear action, extended 20 Weight data, and ensure that can be effectively
cleared, so the zero delay parameter is ((168+20-1)*1000+60)/120=1558ms
(because the timer in the PLC is affected by the scan cycle, the value after
self-learning is 1556ms)

photoelectric eye may flash some times wrongly. So increasing bag length will
shield such wrong signal.It is considerate as 1 bag from photoelectric switch
detecting product until product leaves completely, during this period all the other
flashing signal is ineffective(That’s, check weigher won’t think that many bags are
on the weighing belt for weighing at the same time). It is also shield wrong alarm of
“bags are too close”. Pls set bag length same with actual product’s length, otherwise
it will alarm wrongly.Please set the bag length parameter to be consistent with the
actual length of the material to be measured, otherwise it is very likely that there will
be false alarms of over-density materials (when the bag length is set to be smaller
than the actual material length) or actually multiple packages of products are in the
weighing at the same time On the conveyor belt, but the weighing result only has 1
bag of data (when the bag length is set to be greater than the actual material
length).
11.Weighing delay: the product reaches the delay of Photocell, it begin to
weighing (0 ~ 9999 ms).
12.Weighing time: Weighing time of product (10 ~ 5000 ms)
13.Zero Delay: Zero clearing demand will send to AD module when the product
reaches the delay of photocell (0 ~ 9999 ms).
14.Continuous Unqualified Signal Packels : When the machine is running,
when the weight result is continuously overweight or continuously underweight and
the cumulative number of packages reaches the set value of this parameter, the
machine outputs a continuous overweight signal or a continuous underweight
signal.(If set as 0, this signal will not output)
15.Metal Check : Touch “Metal Check” to enter program set menu of metal
check, as chart 5.6.1.2shows.
16.Selection Phase: When the packages’ material feature is good, pls select
phase; otherwise forbid phase.
a. NO:Phase is forbid
b. YES:Phase is selected

17.Phase:Packages’ material feature(0.0~180.0°).The material’s signal
feedback(product effect) is different when the material is in different phase, one
phase with big product effect, other with small. Besides, there are two signals for
material’s product effect in the software, they have 90 degree phase difference.
Some material with small product effect in one signal, wave shape is flat; but big

18.Magnification times : Signal’s magnification factor, adjust it by
operating or Bigger the figure, more apparently wave shape changes,
higher intensitity, then it is more easy to occur wrong alarm(recommend:150~350)
19.Threshold value : Threshold value for signal causing alarm. If signal
strength reaches or over this figure, alarm will occur, meaning that detect metal
material(1~100,recommend:5~6)
20.Save:Save the set program to certain program group

1.Weight check Filter:Filtering grade of load cell . The higher the setting value,
the slower speed to read the weight data; The smaller the setting value, the faster
speed to read the weight data. The setting value depends on the speed of the
conveyor belt. In general: The faster delivery speed, setting value should be smaller;
If speed is slower, the value should be bigger.
2.Preset: After entering the desired value on the left side of the "Write" button,
the filter coefficients will be written to the AD module. (1 ~ 40, recommended value:
14 ~ 16)
3.Actual: Touch the "Read" button to read the filter coefficients in the current

automatically. (0 ~ 99.9 g, recommended value: 0.5 ~ 1 g)
6.Level 1:Machine’s current level 1 password. Input figure to modify level
1 password. It needs to input the right level 1 password.
7.Level 2:Machine’s current level 2 password. Input figure to modify level
2 password. It needs to input the right level 2 password.
8.Backlight TM:If the screen without any operations, after a set period,
backlight will close to longer screen usage time. When set as 0, backlight keeps
lighting all the time(0~600minutes)
9.Time Setting:Display and modify machine’s system time
10.Date Setting:Display and modify machine’s system date
11.Unqualified Alarm:If it’s“ON”,When the detected weight or metal is
unqualified, the buzzer will alarm.
12.Unqualified Stopping:When it’s“ON”,When the detected weight or
metal is unqualified, the machine will stop running and the the buzzer will alarm.
13.HMI update:In the System Setup Interface, touch“HMI Update”button,
will enter HMI Update interface. Detail update method please contact with us.
14.RS232 to send the weight of each package/RS232 to print the
production record: choose according to the machine configuration, at least 3
passwords are required for operation.

3.When the screen shows “Calibrated success!”, the calibration of load cell is
successful. If the screen shows “Calibrated unsuccessful!”, you should do above
steps to calibrate load cell again.
4.If the screen display “Waiting for 0g” all the time, or“Zero setting is not
successful!”,it means the machine doesn’t access load cell calibration model, pls
exit this menu and access again.
5.Test: Put a smaller standard poise (e.g., 500g) on weighing belt and press
“Read”, then check the value. It should show 500g. If not, please repeat above 1-3
steps.
6.Zero: Press 'Zero' to zero load cell.
7.Exit: Exit calibration menu, back to main menu.
Notice:The whole calibration should be under the situation of no wind and no
vibration, and operated by experts in possession of “Measurement
Qualification Card”.
