Many studies have been carried out targeting Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and related fields. Thanks to the rapid development in technology, which can be a common ground for many fields, interdisciplinary studies among various fields have gained importance resulting in integration of different concepts both into ODL and other fields. With this in mind the purpose of this study is to investigate the main domains of ODL by categorizing research terms and issues, which may lead to a theoretical framework. In this study ten peer-reviewed journals were selected to investigate. 584 research articles published in these journals from 2009 to 2014 have been analyzed and categorized. According to the study, technology, pedagogy, theory, policy, accessibility, design, environment and management domains emerged. Also articles were analyzed for TF-IDF scores according to years and n-grams were created. The study concludes that although there have been many new and ongoing studies in the field of ODL, the field of ODL has been growing needing novelties in research, theory and application of ODL.

Açık ve Uzaktan Öğrenme'nin (AUÖ) özelliklerinden biri öğretmenin, öğrenenin ve kaynakların zaman ve/veya mekan olarak ayrı olmaları ve etkileşimin eş zamanlı ya da eş zamansız olarak çeşitli ortam ve araçların kullanılarak gerçekleşmesidir. Bu araçlardan Öğrenme Yönetim Sistemleri (ÖYS) ve Video Konferans Sistemleri (VKS), AUÖ'de kullanılan başlıca alt yapı sistemlerindendir. Bu sistemler lisanslama özelliklerine göre Açık Kaynak Kodlu (AKK) ve ticari olmak üzere iki başlık altında incelenebilir. Bu çalışmada, mevcut ÖYS ve VKS'ler incelenerek Türkiye'deki bir üniversitede uzaktan eğitim yöntemiyle yürütülen lisansüstü programın amaçları ve öğretim elemanlarının ve öğrenenlerin ihtiyaçları doğrultusunda açık kaynak kodlu bir ÖYS ile ticari lisanslı bir VKS’nin entegre bir şekilde kullanılmasına başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı uzaktan eğitim yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilecek program(lar) açmış ya da açmayı planlayan kurumların kullanabilecekleri alt yapı modelleri hakkında farkındalık oluşturmaktır

In terms of both contemporary and historical point of view, speaking more than one language is not an exceptional circumstance. With the rapid advances in technology in the first quarter of the 21st century, there have been changes in the culture of learning a foreign language (Richards and Rodgers, 2001). In other words, the world of education has been changing hastily and it has also been scrutinized that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have become an important part of learning strategies (Ryan, Scott, Freeman and Patel, 2000). Bearing in mind this fact, being aware of the learners’ material preferences in learning and preparing materials according to different learners with different learning styles is thought to be important for a long-term and permanent learning. The results of the study indicated that the materials should be prepared keeping individual differences in mind.
