Bangladesh is all set to become the next global ICT hub. For this to happen, it requires more women to participate in the sector in order to maintain its competitive edge in terms of a young, driven and relatively cheap workforce. However, this is easier said than done in light of the negative perceptions of Bangladeshi women against the ICT sector. By examining the cases of female students and professionals in the ICT sector, the paper sought to find out the factors that would attract local women to prepare for and join the profession. It also explored the circumstances that would enable Bangladeshi women to remain and prosper in the said sector.

El artículo sintetiza los resultados de la investigación realizada en el 2012, titulada “Estrategia instruccional para la formación de docentes en el uso de las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones (tic) adscritos al programa de Ingeniería Civil de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, sede Villavicencio”. In this era of globalization, the world at large are looking towards integrating information and communication technologies into the education sector to promote economic and technological advancements and make education available to all. It is against this backdrop this study examines Basic Technology Teachers ’ awareness and attitude towards ICT. The data for the study were collected through questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings showed that Basic Technology Teachers ’ have the right attitude towards ICT but lack adequate information integration methodologies.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that influence the Internal Process Innovation (IPI) Activity of the European manufacturing firms. Moreover, a predictive model is developed that can be used to predict which manufacturing firms are more likely to introduce any new or significantly improve their internal processes. This survey is part of the “e-Business Watch,” a service launched in 2007 and provided by “empirica GmbH” to the European Commission, Enterprise and Industry Directorate General, in co-operation with renowned international partners. This article is about an unexplored area of information and communication technology (ICT) use in organizations related to the assumed productivity gains by the use of ICTs. On the one hand, we focus on the losses of labor time that are caused by malfunctioning hardware or non-functional software, and on the other hand, we focus on the labor time losses that are caused by a lack of skills to maximize ICT. To estimate these losses, we conducted a large-scale survey among the Dutch workforce. The respondents were presented scenarios, and then they were asked to assess the loss of labor time. When working with ICTs, malfunctions and skill insufficiencies lead to a loss in labor time of 7.5%. Organizations should account for these losses when calculating ICT expenditures of hardware, software, energy and support. The losses increase with decreasing educational attainment level. However, age does not contribute to the total average losses. In addressing experienced problems, the role of co-workers is more significant than the formally organized means by the organization. In addition, workers highly underestimate the effects of ICT-related training. The results indicate that organizations do not realize that higher levels of productivity gains are attainable.

This paper reports on the impact of the implementation of active and collaborative practices in ICT (information and communication technologies) classrooms. Both of these approaches convey a lot of responsibility from the teacher to the students and the hoping, as backed up by the literature, is to promote deeper learning and reasoning skills at a higher level. The question is: how do you do all that? This research describes a specific environment that makes use of collaborative tools, like wikis and forums within an e-learning platform and of specific CRM (customer relationship management) software. In order to analyze how this learning environment gets learners actively involved in learning and working together in productive ways, students were surveyed by responding to questionnaires. La localidad rural de Aldea Beleiro se encuentra ubicada al sudoeste de la provincia de Chubut, a unos 400 kilometros de Comodoro Rivadavia y a solo 5 kilometros del limite con Chile. Esta localidad tiene 172 habitantes, segun el ultimo Censo realizado en el ano 2010 (INDEC). This article discusses how the elderly experience their ICT usage as the ageing citizens of the Finnish information society. Through reflexive ethnographic analysis the human-(non-)human boundary-making and temporalities are analyzed from the “ICT biographies” of sixteen interviewees. The perspectives of ageing as lived experience and as socio-cultural phenomenon; and the socio-materiality entangled with temporal layers; are combined to understand the intra-action between the ageing ICT users and technology. The social relations are discussed as essential part of this intra-action: the interviewees perceive themselves as slow and clumsy ICT users in relation to younger “generations”, for example. In the human-machine boundary making the interviewees’ previous experiences on communication technologies are significant. As an addition to previous studies on ICT and ageing, this article further discusses the benefits of ethnographic study on existing ICT practices for urban computing design. What could be learnt from these practices in relation to, for example, technology usage in private and public places, negative and positive experiences, motivations and needs of ageing citizens? Or how could design benefit from understanding ageing as lived experience which however reflects the social discourses about ageing and technology, as well as the socio-cultural environment ageing adults live in.

Es por ello que estas herramientas se han utilizado con éxito en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje y que se debe innovar en la forma de educar. Effective deployment of ubiquitous technologies can help companies improve the business efficiency, especially for those ICT (Information communication technology) companies who are involved in M-business, M-commerce, and etc. However, there are many factors could affect the performance of the ubiquitous technologies deployment, such as the company’s management, the employee’s coordination, and etc. In this paper, we are focused on the environmental factors that would have an impact on the performance of organizations which have deployed or is deploying ubiquitous technologies, and investigate more than 50 Chinese ICT companies. According to our findings, in the context of China, a sensible, dependent, and interactive business relationship with the outside environment will have a positive impact on their ubiquitous technologies deployment’s performance, while the decentralization and hierarchism within organizational structure in the inside environment will have a negative impact on their ubiquitous technologies deployment’s performance.

This study examines a) the methods used to structure the pedagogy necessary to underpin distance education delivery used by the Hellenic Open University (HOU); b) the adoption of pedagogical and epistemological conceptual systems HOU uses for the development of its pedagogical practices; and c) the role of information and communication technology (ICT), and the degree of ICTs incorporation into distance education delivery at HOU. This study shows that: a) in terms of providing rigorous course contents, strong framing exists between HOU’s various learning modules; b) in terms of pedagogical practices, there is a strong hierarchical relationship and framing between HOU’s academic staff and tutors, while conversely, framing is weaker between its tutors and students; c) in terms of ICT usage HOU, in general, uses technology for administration, while conversely, and depending on the program of study, it currently only has limited use for student learning.

This paper attempts a pragmatic analysis of the interplay between social contexts of power and sociolinguistic device of aggravation strategies concerning dialogic discourses in Vikram Seth's novel A Suitable Boy (ASB) (1993). The paper attempts to validate that aggravation strategies have been an integral part of human discourse. It demonstrates how people use aggravation strategies to exercise power over others in different communicative contexts. It also exemplifies how power is vested in specific identities, and their role relationships in different power structures existing in the society based on their caste, age, sex, social standing, political or official identity, and how the power is exerted in the context of their social identities. The paper defines various aspects of aggravation, explains the dominant participatory identities, namely master identities, situated identities, and discourse identities and analyses how these social identities exercise power through aggravation strategies in the dialogic discourses in ASB.

: ICT based social networking includes communication and interaction through social networking sites (SNSs) and cellular phones. SNSs and cellular phones have become the most common source of communication among youth. The paper highlights the effects of ICT based social networking on social life of youth. The research was conducted in two colleges of F-7, Islamabad by selecting a sample of one hundred and ten students through purposive sampling technique using both qualitative and quantitative tools. Cross tabulation and percentile analysis revealed that 62.7 percent of the youth were daily users of ICT, addicted to major social sites like Facebook 73 percent, Skype 14 percent and Linkdn or twitter 13 percent. The excessive use of SNSs was found to be directly associated with decreased face-to-face interaction as 72 percent of the respondents agreed that remaining online all the time effected their social, communication interactional skills within and outside family.
