In this paper the author examines Hare's idea of reconciliation of utilitarianism and Kant's moral theory. The key term which connects these two theories is the idea of universality of moral notions and judgments. But the real question is: which type of universality, and how does that universality work? Hare's idea of universalisability apparently is not Kantian universality required by categorical imperative. The author concludes that main Hare's argument in favor of "Kantian utilitarianism" is based upon basic misunderstanding of central notions of Kant's ethical theory.

In this article, the author evaluates whether Rawls rightly believed that his theory of justice could be interpreted as Kantian. Rawls' Kantianism is primarily treated as the general ethical foundation of his theory of justice. Providing insight into the debate conducted on Kantian's interpretation in the 1970s and early 1980s, the author explains the first doubts about Rawls' Kantianism, and how Rawls' defenders subsequently responded to them. At the center of the debate was the question of whether Rawls' principles of justice were essentially the fruit of heteronomous rather than autonomous motivation, and whether they could be treated as "categorical imperatives." Noting the significant differences in the conception of moral motivation between Kant and Rawls, the author explains how and why Rawls' Kantianism is essential to the history of moral and political philosophy. Finally, the author suggests that Rawls' Kantianism should be treated more like Kantian inspiration rather than Kantian interpretation in a literal sense.

This article has two main points: 1) there are no reasons why sexual ethics should be excluded from fashionable “applied ethics” and “bioethics” investigations, and 2) that the key concepts of “sexual discourse” – especially the concept of “perversion” – deserves full philosophical attention. As an example, the author offers a brief analysis of the reasons why, despite the ruling “libertarian paradigm,” the concept of “perversion” should be kept in ordinary language.

In this article, the author points to a somewhat neglected Kant?s metaphor - a metaphor of the ?moral compass.? The idea of a ?moral compass? is nothing more than the concept of the moral law itself as a ?categorical imperative.? The author suggests that this simple metaphor points to two things that are often forgotten in the interpretation of Kant?s ethics. Firstly, Kant believes that moral knowledge is available literally to everyone. Secondly, the path of acquiring knowledge in morality differs from the path of moral knowledge in Kant?s general epistemology. Finally, the author, for example, offers an explanation of the mechanism of ?moral compass.?

This chapter argues that the “incoherence” or “rule-worship” objection to rule utilitarianism is best understood as asserting that rule utilitarians are committed to inconsistent claims about practical reasons: they are committed to an “act-utilitarian” view of practical reason by their arguments for their theory, while the theory itself commits them to a contradictory view—at least if an action's being wrong is a reason not to do it. It also offers suggestions about how to argue for a form of rule utilitarianism, albeit an idiosyncratic one, without opening oneself to the incoherence objection. Mill enters into the discussion in two ways. First, his Art of Life is used to illustrate how rule utilitarianism can fall victim to the incoherence objection, for his version does. Second, Mill provides the premises of the approach to defending rule utilitarianism that the chapter proposes, although it is an approach that he would reject.

Апстракт: Овај текст сугерише две идеје. Прва се своди на метаетичку тезу да у ситуацијама "кризе" (каква је текућа пандемија) међу првима страда језик као систем рационалног споразумевања. Друга идеја је да се и радикални ставови, конкретно ставови "за" и "против" вакцинације могу заступати рационално. Аутор ту тезу илуструје на примерима Кантовог и Миловог класичног етичког учења.

Rad analizira sve raširenija uvjerenja da utilitarizam kao normativno-etička teorija nudi standard moralnosti, ali ne i metodu (»proceduru«) donošenja moralnih odluka. Prema autorovu uvjerenju, ova je ideja nastala kao mogući odgovor na neke od kritika utilita-rizma, zasnovanih na pojmu »prezahtjevnosti«. Najprije, iznosi se prvobitni argument Eugenea Balesa o tome da se razdvajanjem standarda moralnosti od metoda donošenja odluka utilitarizam postupaka može »pomiriti« s prihvaćanjem neke indirektne procedure zasnovane na pravilima. Potom, skicirana je Hurleyjeva teorija prema kojoj razdvajanje konzekvencijalističkog (unutar toga i utilitarističkog) moralnog standarda i procedure od-lučivanja dopušta izbor procedure koja pred djelovatelja ne stavlja nerazumne zahtjeve. Autor analizira obje ideje i iznosi moguće metaetičke i normativno-etičke prigovore koji se tim povodom mogu konstruirati. Metaethics of the late 20th and 21st century shows signs of revitalization. This is evident from the huge production of papers and books that deal with this discipline. However, hyperproduc­ tion does not necessarily mean quality. Modern has replaced its predecessor (emotivism), the question is how well. Their theoretical rivals, naturalists, are trying to levitate between the methodological assumptions and substantive claims. But contemporary expressivism and naturalism in metaethics have something in common: the idea of linguistic revision.

metaforu – metaforu „moralnog kompasa“. Zamisao „moralnog kompasa“ nije ništa
drugo nego zamisao samog moralnog zakona kao „kategoričkog imperativa“. Autor
sugeriše da ova jednostavna metafora ukazuje na dve stvari koja se često zaboravlja
u interpretaciji Kantove etike: 1) da Kant smatra da je moralno saznanje dostupno
doslovno svakom, i 2) da se put saznanja u moralu razlikuje od puta moralnog saznanja
u Kantovoj opštoj epistemologiji. Konačno, autor na primeru „lažnog obećanja“
nudi objašnjenje mehanizma delovanja „moralnog kompasa“.

This paper deals with one the most famous argument in the history of moral philosophy, Mill’s “proof of the principle of utility”. It is also an attempt of analysis of the relationship between (normative) utilitarianism and (meta-ethical) naturalism. In addition to the analysis of the “proof”, the author critically discusses the reconstruction of the Mill’s argument offered by contemporary utilitarian David Brink. Brink’s reconstruction is an example of a strong tendency towards reinterpretation or improvement of Mill’s argument in recent literature. However, those attempts rise the question: “Are proposed reinterpretations needed or even correct?” The author defends a position that suggested modifications of Mill’s original argument potentially lead to more problems than solutions.

Iako naslov ove knjige (Filozoja morala Džona Stjuarta Mila) izgleda kao da mu ne treba posebno razjašnjenje, ipak ćemo na samom početku pružiti nekoliko naznaka koje će čitaoca uputiti u namere i cilj pisanja ove monograje. Pre sve-ga, treba naglasiti da će se ona baviti "etikom" u lozofskom smislu tog termina. Sasvim je očigledno da sam termin "etika" ne stoji u naslovu knjige. Za to postoji dobar razlog. Objašnjenje zašto knjiga nema naslov, recimo, Etičko učenje Džona Stjuarta Mila (John Stuart Mill) leži u potrebi izbegavanja konfuzija koje sve nepreciznije savremene upotrebe termina "etika" iza-zivaju čak i u lozofskoj literaturi. "Filozoja morala" se u ovoj studiji, dakle, može smatrati sinonimom za "etiku", ali samo onako kako je ovaj termin lozofski, kroz izgradnju sopstvene istorije, značenjski do danas odredio. Etika u najširem smislu za svoj predmet ima "moral", za ne-lozofsku svest prilično neodređenu oblast normi i/ili pravila kojima se ljudi rukovode kada vrednuju drugoga ili sebe ili odlučuju kako da postupe.

„What if Everybody Does the Same?” (Mill and the Utilitarian Generalization)
(Summary)

The debate whether ethical thought of John Stuart Mill should be interpreted as a
sort of rule-utilitarianism or in a manner of „classical“ act-utilitarianism was launched
in early 1950’s. One of the „proofs“ that Mill, in fact, was a rule-utilitarian is based
on the presence of the „generalization test“ in his work. This test in the form of asking
and answering the question „What if everybody does the same?“ is the essence of so-called „utilitarian generalization“ – one of two main forms of rule-utilitarianism. The
author discusses what the purpose of this test in Mill’s work has. It is usually assumed
that „generalization test“ is normative in its nature, but there is strong evidence in
Mill’s text that it has a fact-tracking role. The fact-tracking sense of the „generalization
test“ cannot prove that Mill was rule-utilitarian.

There are two reasons  for that. Firstly, this Companion is enormous – more than 640 pages in total. Secondly,
