The aim of the research was to determine whether enrichment of the atmosphere in an incubator with carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) and eggshell thickness (EST) affected embryonic death (ED), hatchability of fertile eggs (HFE) and hatching time (HT). A total of 320 Ross 308 eggs were used and the experiment was repeated twice. Eggshell thickness was classified as thin (<31 μm), medium (31 - 32 μm) and thick (>32 μm). The incubators were operated with their internal atmosphere enriched with CO2 (1.57% CO2; 20.23% O2) or O2 (0.50% CO2; 22.44% O2). Embryonic death, HFE and HT data were monitored at three periods, namely early (<486 hours), middle (486 - 492 hours), and late (492 - 510 hours). Early ED, late ED and hatchability of fertile eggs were not affected by EST or by the incubator’s internal atmosphere (P >0.05). BackgroundThe effect of stocking density on slaughter performance and meat quality were primarily investigated in this research. Pekin ducks were reared until slaughter age (42 days) in three different stocking density groups (three, five and seven ducklings/m2) in four replicate pens. To compare the slaughter performance of the ducklings’ live weight, carcass weight, carcass yield, thigh and breast meat weight and yield, and edible giblets weight (heart, liver and gizzard) were investigated. The meat quality was compared between the treatment groups based on dry matter ratio, cooking loss, water holding capacity, pH values, and colour parameters (L*, a*, b*, c*, h* and ΔE* values). Bu arastirmada kulucka performansina bildircinlarda (Coturnix coturnix japonica) tuy renginin etkisi incelenmistir. Dolluluk orani (D), erken donem (ED) ve son donem + kabugunu kirmis cikamamis (SDEM + KKC) embriyo olumleri ile cikis gucu (CG) bu arastirmada incelenen kulucka performansiyla ilgili ozellikler olmustur. Arastirmada orta yasli (15 hafta) orijinal (kircilli kahverengi) ve beyaz tuylu damizlik bildircinlardan elde edilen toplam 144 kuluckalik yumurta kullanilmistir. Orjinal ve beyaz tuylu bildircin yumurtalari icin sirasiyla % 73.11 ve 72.90 D, % 4.44 ve % 4.88 ED, % 11.92 ve % 6.29 SDEM + KKC, % 78.86 ve % 80.20 CG degerleri elde edilmistir. The effect of plumage colours of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) on some egg quality parameters and their relations amongst were studied in this study. A total of 144 hatching eggs which were obtained from middle-aged (13 week) quail breeders having two different (original and white) plumage colours (77 orginal and 77 white) were used in the experiment. Egg weight (EW), egg length (EL), egg width (EWd) and shape index (SI) were studied parameters for egg quality. Coefficient correlation and regretion were analyzed for relation among these parameters. Average EW were 10.79 g and 9.54 g, EL were 31.59 mm and 31.57 mm, EWd were 25.85 mm and 24.68 mm, SI were 81.86 and 78.29 in eggs of quails with original and white plumage of this study respectively. Bu arastirma, 2015-2016 yillari arasinda Bolca Hindi A.Ş.’ye ait arastirma ve uygulama deneme alaninda, farkli kibele gubre uygulamalarinin feslegen ( Ocimum basilicum L.) bitkisinin verim degerlerine olan etkisini belirlemek amaciyla yurutulmustur. Bu kapsamda, kibele gubresinin 4 farkli dozu (750, 1000, 1250 ve 1500 kg da -1 ) kullanilmistir. Feslegen bitkisine ait bitki boyu, bitki basina dusen dal sayisi, yas herba ve kuru herba verimine iliskin degerlerin degisimi incelenmistir. Arastirma sonuclarina gore; toplam yesil herba verimi 1764.96–4751 kg da -1 , kuru herba verimi 316.58–744.30 kg da -1 arasinda degisim gostermistir. Relation among some parameters used for determining egg quality was studied in this research. Egg weight (EW), egg length (EL), egg width (EWd) and shape index (SI) was the studied parameters. A total of 1920 hatching eggs which were obtained from middle-aged (39 week) broiler breeders were used. In the first stage of this study, EW, EL, EWd were measured and SI values were calculated from these parameters. Average EW was 64.40 ± 0.04 g, EL was 57.35 ± 1.31 mm, EWd was 44.81 ± 0.61 mm and SI was 78.19 ± 0.10 in eggs of this study. In the second stage, coefficients of variation, correlation coefficients and regression equations were calculated for determining of relations among these parameters. Significant (p < 0.05) and significant correlation levels among EW and EL and EWd were determined (r = 0.582 and 0.734, respectively). The experiment was designed to investigate the effects of actual stocking density on the growth performance parameters in Pekin ducks. A total of 240 mixed sex ducklings were used with stocking densities of 3, 5 and 7 poults m -2 during the 42 day growing period. Live weight, live weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, mortality rate and productivity index parameters were investigated to determine growth performance. As the stocking density decreases, LW values were found to be increasing visibly after 3 weeks of age (P<0.05), live weight gain and total live weight values were found to be increasing from the first week (P<0.05). The achieved total live weight in unit area increased parallel to increasing stocking density catching the peak at 7 ducklings m -2 stocking density (P<0.05). This study was organized to examine the effects of the use of rainwater lost from roofs as the water source for broilers on the performance and some of the basic carcass and meat quality parameters. In the research, day old 96 Ross 308 broiler chicks were used. In the experiment, the birds were separated to two treatment groups and the birds given harvested rainwater were distributed to 4 pens and the birds given deepwell water were kept in other 4 pens in the research house. Performance criteria were analyzed from birds with mixed sex, where the carcass and meat pH were analyzed from the data obtained from male broilers. The effects of high egg shell temperature (EST), egg position in incubator and egg weight on embryonic mortality and hatchability of fertile eggs from a broiler parent stock were investigated in this study. Egg weight was determined in a total 1920 hatching eggs, which were obtained from middle-aged (39 weeks old) Ross 308 broiler breeders. These eggs were classified according to weight as light (60.3 ± 0.04 g), medium (64.4 ± 0.0 g) and heavy (68.8 ± 0.1 g). They were randomly set in trolleys of 4 identical incubators sorted as near the heather side-door side, humidifier side-opposite side and top-middle-bottom. The incubators were operated from the beginning to the end of the incubation period to provide 4 different high EST values of 100.5°F, 101.0°F, 101.5°F and 102°F. At the end of the hatching period, data on embryo mortality and hatchability of fertile eggs were examined. It was found that high EST and different egg positions affected embryonic mortality and hatchability of fertile eggs. In eggs with higher EST, higher (P< 0.05) mid and late stage embryo mortality rates and consequently, lower (P< 0.05) hatchability of fertile eggs were found in comparison to other groups. This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of plastic slatted floors and a deep-litter system using wood shavings on the growth performance of current commercial hybrid Pekin ducks. A total of 96 Pekin ducks (Star 53) were reared for 42 d. Live weight, live-weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, water consumption, and water / feed consumption ratio were investigated as the performance criteria. With the use of plastic slatted floors, the feed conversion rate dropped and the water / feed consumption ratio showed an incline (p<0.05). This is a very favourable result for the poultry industry and growers. The remaining parameters did not change by altering the ground system (p>0.05). Generally, it can be stated that plastic slatted floor use has advantages concerning the performance criteria of the feed consumption ratio and the water / feed consumption ratio in comparison to the deep-litter system. Furthermore, improvement in the feed conversion ratio is known to benefit the overall performance of poultry as well as having a positive economic impact. It should also be noted that as the birds grew, they were visually less stained, which is another important factor determining feather quality. However, this should be further investigated in future research.

The aim of the research was to determine whether enrichment of the atmosphere in an incubator with carbon dioxide (CO 2) and oxygen (O 2) and eggshell thickness (EST) affected embryonic death (ED), hatchability of fertile eggs (HFE) and hatching time (HT). Eggs with shells 31 to 32 µm thick hatched at an appreciably greater rate between 486 and 492 hours of incubation (17%) than eggs with thicker (0.6%) or thinner (0.4%) shells in both the CO 2 and O 2 enriched atmospheres. The hatching rate was significantly higher in the eggs with an intermediate EST than in thick-shelled eggs. Relation among some parameters used for determining egg quality was studied in this research. Egg weight (EW), egg length (EL), egg width (EWd) and shape index (SI) was the studied parameters. A total of 1920 hatching eggs which were obtained from middle-aged (39 week) broiler breeders were used. In the first stage of this study, EW, EL, EWd were measured and SI values were calculated from these parameters. Average EW was 64.40 ± 0.04 g, EL was 57.35 ± 1.31 mm, EWd was 44.81 ± 0.61 mm and SI was 78.19 ± 0.10 in eggs of this study. In the second stage, coefficients of variation, correlation coefficients and regression equations were calculated for determining of relations among these parameters. Significant (p < 0.05) and significant correlation levels among EW and EL and EWd were determined (r = 0.582 and 0.734, respectively). Meanwhile, significant and high coefficient correlation among EW and SI was not found (p > 0.05) like egg width and egg length. Meanwhile, it was determined that egg width was more important variable than egg length and shape index for estimation of egg weight. Also, it was found that egg weight value could be estimated in higher accuracy by using egg width values instead of egg length and shape index values. Özet Bu araştırmada yumurta kalitesinin belirlenmesinde kullanılan bazı özellikler arasındaki ilişkiler araştırılmıştır. Yumurta ağırlığı (YA), yumurta boyu (YB), yumurta eni (YE) ve şekil indeksi (Şİ) bu araştırmada incelenen özellikler olmuştur. Araştırmada orta yaşlı (39 hafta) etlik damızlıklardan elde edilen 1920 yumurta kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın ilk aşamasında bu yumurtalardaki YA, YB, YG değerleri ölçülmüş ve bu veriler kullanılarak Şİ değerleri hesaplanmıştır. İkinci aşamada bu özellikler arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesi için varyasyon katsayıları, aralarındaki korelasyon katsayıları ile regresyon denklemi hesaplanmıştır. Çalışılan yumurtalarda YA 64.40 ± 0.04 g, YB 57.35 ± 1.31 mm ve YG 44.81 ± 0.61 mm ve Şİ 78.19 ± 0.10 olmuştur. YA ile YB ve YG arasında önemli (p < 0.05) seviyede bir korelasyon olduğu belirlenmiştir (sırasıyla r = 0.582 ve 0.734). Buna karşılık YA ile Şİ arasında yumurta eni ve yumurta boyuna benzer şekilde önemli ve yüksek seviyede bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir. Buna göre, yumurta ağırlığını tahminde yumurta genişliğinin, yumurta boyu ve şekil indeksine göre daha önemli bir değişken olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, yumurta boyu veya şekil indeksi değeri yerine yumurta genişliği değeri kullanılarak yumurta ağırlığının daha yüksek bir doğrulukla tahmin edilebileceği bulunmuştur (sırasıyla 53.87%, 33.87% ve 0.08%).

ÖZET: Bu araştırma, 2015-2016 yılları arasında Bolca Hindi A.Ş.'ye ait araştırma ve uygulama deneme alanında, farklı kıbele gübre uygulamalarının fesleğen (Ocimum basilicum L.) bitkisinin verim değerlerine olan etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Bu kapsamda, kıbele gübresinin 4 farklı dozu (750, 1000, 1250 ve 1500 kg da-1) kullanılmıştır. Fesleğen bitkisine ait bitki boyu, bitki başına düşen dal sayısı, yaş herba ve kuru herba verimine ilişkin değerlerin değişimi incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; toplam yeşil herba verimi 1764.96–4751 kg da-1 , kuru herba verimi 316.58–744.30 kg da-1 arasında değişim göstermiştir. En yüksek toplam yaş ve kuru herba değerleri kontrol uygulamasından elde edilmiş olup, 750 kg da-1 kıbele gübre dozundan elde edilen verim değerleri ile kontrolden elde edilen verim değerleri benzerlik göstermektedir. Artan gübre dozlarına bağlı olarak bitki veriminde azalma belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, incelenen dozlar arasından 750 kg da-1 kıbele gübre dozunun fesleğen verimi üzerine olumlu etkileri olduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre; denemenin her iki yılında da yaş ağırlık ve kuru ağırlık (r=0.762 ve r=0.895), yaş ağırlık ve bitki boyu (r=0.456 ve r=0.494) arasında anlamlı ve olumlu bir korelasyon belirlenmiştir (p<0.01). ABSTRACT:The present study was performed to determine the effects of different Kıbele fertilizer applications on the yield of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) during 2015-216 years at the experimental fields of Bolca Hindi Inc. Co. In this context, four different doses (750, 1000, 1250 and 1500 kg da-1) were applied. The changes in plant height, branch number per plant, fresh herbage yield (kg da-1), dry herbage yield (kg da-1) of sweet basil were examined. According to the results; the yields of fresh herbage, dry herbage were 1764.96 – 4751 kg da-1 , 316.58 – 744.30 kg da-1 respectively. The highest fresh herbage and dry herbage values were obtained from control application. Kıbele with 750 kg da-1 dose exhibited similar results with control application. The yield was decreased with increasing doses of fertilizer. As a result of this research, 750 kg da-1 application of Kıbele fertilizer dose had significant effect on yield of basil. According to the results; they are significant and positive correlations between fresh herbage yield and dry herbage yield (r=0.762 and r=0.895) and fresh herbage yield and plant height (r=0.456 and r=0.494) for the both years, respectively were determined (p<0.01).
