Boko Haram in the northern parts of Nigeria has always been understood as a mockery of the Yoruba word for “book” which is “buku”. According to some lecturers from the BUK, Daga book ne aka samu ya zama boko, Yorubawa sune suke cewa bukku, su kuma al’ummar Hausawa da book ta zo musu suba su san wani karatu ba, sai na addini, a saboda haka sai suka kwaikwayi abin da Yarbawa suke cewa bukku maimakon suce bukku sai suke cewa boko (Bala Volvo yakasai,Wai Shin, Boko Haramun Ne? not dated p. 8).

However, regardless of how legitimate the cause may be, the Qur’an never condones the killing of innocent people. Terrorizing the civilian population can never be termed as jihad and can never be reconciled with the teachings of Islam.
Even Western scholars have repudiated the myth of Muslims coercing others to convert. The great historian De Lacy O’Leary wrote: “History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims, sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.”

Boko Haram (Western education is forbidden), officially called Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad (People Committed to the Prophet's Teachings for Propagation and Jihad), is a militant Islamist movement based in northeast Nigeria. The group has received training and funds from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and was designated by the US as a terrorist organisation in November 2013. Membership has been estimated to number between a few hundred and a few thousand.[2][3][4]
Boko Haram killed more than 5,000 civilians between July 2009 and June 2014, including at least 2,000 in the first half of 2014, in attacks occuring mainly in northeast, northcentral and central states.[5][6][7] Corruption in the security services and human rights abuses committed by them have hampered efforts to counter the unrest.[8][9] 650,000 people fled the conflict zone by August 2014, an increase of 200,000 since May.[10]
"Since Boko Haram’s resurgence in 2010, the Nigerian government has struggled to respond to the growing threat posed by the group." (US CRS, 2014)[4]

THE leader of the Northern Civil Society Coalition, Mallam Shehu Sani has said that the dialogue allegedly offered by Boko Haram to the Federal Government is not a genuine one from the leadership of the Islamic group. He, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to take more proactive steps towards putting an end to the hostilities and insecurity, which have caused the nation huge resources and human lives.
Shehu spoke yesterday in Kaduna while reacting to the dialogue offer by Boko Haram, which also announced the former Head of State and Presidential Candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari as part of the negotiating team expected to discuss with the Federal Government representatives in Saudi Arabia.

Boko Haram, a diffuse Islamist sect, has attacked Nigeria's police and military, rival clerics, politicians, schools, religious buildings, public institutions, and civilians with increasing regularity since 2009. Some experts view the group as an armed revolt against government corruption, abusive security forces, and widening regional economic disparity in an already impoverished country. They argue that Abuja should do more to address the strife between the disaffected Muslim north and the Christian south.

Consider Valentine's Day, a day that after dying out a well-deserved death in most of Europe (but surviving in Britain and United States) has suddenly started to emerge across a good swath of Muslim countries. Who was Valentine? Why is this day observed? Legends abound, as they do in all such cases, but this much is clear: Valentine's Day began as a pagan ritual started by Romans in the 4th century BCE to honor the god Lupercus. The main attraction of this ritual was a lottery held to distribute young women to young men for "entertainment and pleasure"--until the next year's lottery. Among other equally despicable practices associated with this day was the lashing of young women by two young men, clad only in a bit of goatskin and wielding goatskin thongs, who had been smeared with blood of sacrificial goats and dogs. A lash of the "sacred" thongs by these "holy men" was believed to make them better able to bear children.
As usual, Christianity tried, without success, to stop the evil celebration of Lupercalia. It first replaced the lottery of the names of women with a lottery of the names of the saints. The idea was that during the following year the young men would emulate the life of the saint whose name they had drawn. (The idea that you can preserve the appearance of a popular evil and yet somehow turn it to serve the purpose of virtue, has survived. Look at all those people who are still trying, helplessly, to use the formats of popular television entertainments to promote good. They might learn something from this bit of history. It failed miserably) Christianity ended up doing in Rome, and elsewhere, as the Romans did. The only success it had was in changing the name from Lupercalia to St. Valentine's Day. It was done in CE 496 by Pope Gelasius, in honor of some Saint Valentine. There are as many as 50 different Valentines in Christian legends. Two of them are more famous, although their lives and characters are also shrouded in mystery. According to one legend, and the one more in line with the true nature of this celebration, St. Valentine was a "lovers'" saint, who had himself fallen in love with his jailer's daughter.

We are living in an era in which we desperately need peace, friendship, and solidarity for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development. The tensions and conflicts that so defined the twentieth century continue in this new century, and innocent people all around us continue to suffer from them. Despite the urgent need for solidarity and cooperation, certain circles are perceived to be inciting ethno-religious conflict, particularly between the two greatest and deep-rooted religions (Islam and Christianity). This issue needs to be scrutinized, as the war of religions that they envisage is having disastrous consequences on us. One of the best ways of preventing such a disaster is to strengthen the dialogue and cooperation between these religions. This is not a hard task, as there are no fundamental differences between Islam and Christianity. To the contrary, there is much common ground between them. Considering the current situation and the nature of the problems, we need shared values that will make cooperation necessary for solving the problems, promote understanding, tolerance, conflict prevention/management, peace building, reconciliation and further the cause of a society dominated by morality, happiness, tranquility, security, and prosperity. This can be achieved by forming an alliance of all conscientious people, namely, sincere and religious Muslims and Christians who will come together and unite in this common cause.

Today, religion is seriously under attack from within and from without. This calls for internal cleansing of religion whereby the religious leaders must see it as an obligation to call to order, their followers who preach and promote violence. On the 20th of October, 2011, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, called an extra ordinary meeting of NIREC at Abuja to appeal to religious leaders to seek ways of using religion to restore peace and promote peaceful coexistence in Nigeria. This meeting revealed that the Nigeria government is passionate about dialogue to the extent of putting in place the Nigeria Inter-religious Council (NIREC) to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Fethullah Gűlen, a Turkish Islamic scholar teaches that, “Religion focuses primarily on the immutable aspects of life and existence” but Inter-religious dialogue is confronting many challenges in Nigeria today because of suspicion based on past experiences of intolerance in some places. On the other hand, there are many places in Nigeria where Christians and Muslims still live in peace and harmony.

All Muslims should know, the Islamic greeting is ‘Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi wa barakato’ (peace and mercy and blessings of God be upon you). For short, most Muslims say ‘Assalamu Alaykum’ (peace be upon you), then the Muslim replies back and says ‘wa alaykum assalam’ (and peace be upon you also). However, how does a Muslim reply back to a non-Muslim who greets him? How does a Muslim greet a non-Muslim? Who greets whom first? This article will try to shed some light on all these matters. Here is a Quranic verse that talks about greeting…Surah 4:86When ye are greeted with a greeting, greet ye with a better than it or return it. Lo! This paper presentation shows the right ways and proper teachings of islam in regard to greetings to muslims brothers and sisters. I am able to identify some doings that are restricted, and doings that are islamically accepted.

And i believe that these teaching a properly guided and my muslims brothers will learn alots and knows some restrictions over it.

I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation.

But the Islamic upper class, now acting as the pioneer of a divine order, was no more concerned with the fate of its impoverished fellow believers than it had been before. Kano, the metropolis of the North, had a longstanding reputation as the ›capital of vices‹. The rich had made it their habit to fly to London to go shopping while at home, before local audiences, they ranted about the decadence of the West. According to a former minister who had moved in these circles for a long time, there was no reason to take their pious assertions seriously: »Every one of these Sharia politicians is an adulterer. Why should these people fight to stone adulterers?

What is the Islamic State?
Where did it come from, and what are its intentions? The simplicity of these questions can be deceiving, and few Western leaders seem to know the answers. In December, The New York Times published confidential comments by Major General Michael K. Nagata, the Special Operations commander for the United States in the Middle East, admitting that he had hardly begun figuring out the Islamic State’s appeal. “We have not defeated the idea,” he said. “We do not even understand the idea.” In the past year, President Obama has referred to the Islamic State, variously, as “not Islamic” and as al-Qaeda’s “jayvee team,” statements that reflected confusion about the group, and may have contributed to significant strategic errors.

From all indication, a hand behind the curtain is aggressively impatient to fuel trouble in Nigeria. The series of syndicated write-ups being promoted through the international media (re-echoed by Nigerian media), by so-called research centers, have exposed sponsors of this calculated campaign of calumny.
The subjects of these write-ups have always been Iran, Hizbullah and the Islamic Movement under the spiritual guidance of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. This time around, another sponsored rubbish came from an online platform, The Africa Report, which boasts of “unmatched intelligence” with “the finest African and international journalists, renowned specialists on the continent’s politics, economy, industry and governance”. A critical close-up will however, show that, The Africa Report is only but an extension of CIA-Mossad intelligence in Africa.

Important note about writing a proposal: Proposals are informative and persuasive writing because they attempt to educate the reader and to convince that reader to do something (give you money). The goal of the writer is not only to persuade the reader to do what is being requested, but also to make the reader believe that the solution (how you are going to answer your question) is practical and appropriate. 1) Is this information needed to understand how I will answer my question? If no – take it out!
2) Will this plan ACTUALLY answer my question (as it is written)? If no – rethink your plan or the wording of your question!
