Il contributo si inserisce all'interno di una corposa opera in due volumi relativa alla preistoria del territorio di Roma e riprende, in sintesi, alcuni studi studi fatti nel corso degli ultimi anni. L\u2019abitato eneolitico di Le Cerquete-Fianello \ue8 stato individuato nel 1987 nel corso di ricerche di superficie che hanno interessato l\u2019area dell\u2019attuale bonifica di Maccarese. Diverse campagne di scavo svolte tra il 1993 ed il 2002 hanno portato alla luce circa 1.000 mq dell\u2019abitato pari ad un decimo dell\u2019estensione totale stimata. Nell\u2019area indagata sono state individuate una serie di pozzetti, fosse ed allineamenti di buche di palo che definiscono diverse strutture, in particolare tre capanne di forma ovale ed una subcircolare circondate da una palizzata, oltre ad una capanna ovale fuori della recinzione ed una probabile sesta capanna. Ad est delle capanne \ue8 stato individuato un pozzetto contenente uno scheletro di cavallo e due scheletri di cuccioli di cane (Curci, Tagliacozzo 1994, 1998, 2002) oltre ad una serie di altre fosse

The area corresponding to the modern city of Rome is usually known for the magnificent remains of the Roman civilization and the myths of its foundation in 753 BC. Less known is evidence of the prehistoric occupation occurring until the Bronze Age along the territory corresponding to the city of Rome and the surrounding area, called "Campagna Romana". Indeed, until a few years ago, the archaeological evidence relating to the phases of recent prehistory, from the Neolithic to the beginning of the Bronze Age, were completely, or almost completely, unknown. Recent excavations, mainly related to preventive archaeology, led to the identification of settlements and necropolises associated with a complex cultural scenario and shed light on the social and cultural aspects of daily life of the human groups who occupied this territory before the Latium civilization.
Della città di Roma, ben nota per le maestose vestigia riguardanti la civiltà romana e per i miti che precedono la sua fondazione avvenuta nel 753 a.C., sono poco conosciute le fasi antecedenti l’età del Bronzo finale , sia nell’area urbana, che nel territorio al di fuori delle mura, definito come “Campagna Romana” che va dal Neolitico antico fino agli inizi dell'età del Bronzo. Scavi recenti, legati principalmente all’archeologia preventiva, hanno portato all’individuazione di insediamenti e necropoli riferibili ad un complesso ed articolato panorama culturale, gettando luce su aspetti della vita quotidiana, sociale e culturale di gruppi umani che hanno occupato questo territorio prima della formazione della civiltà laziale.

This paper presents the results of a series of archaeological excavations directed by the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma - sede di Ostia over the years 2001-2008, in an extended part of the ex-lagoon of Maccarese (170 hectares). This area has been inserted in the wider environmental context of the coastal belt of Rome, which especially in the last decade has been subject to a considerable number of studies.
For three thousand years, from the recent prehistoric period to the modern ages, the lagoon waters and borders represented major human resources, determining the dynamics of occupation and resource exploitation in the area. Our commitment so far has been to improve our understanding of the area and to explore how landscape modification can be interpreted.
With a special focus on the Roman Age, the excavations carried out in the ancient lagoon have brought to light a large hydraulic structure, dating back to the first half of the 1st century AD. This find, which for the moment doesn’t seem to compare to any installation in the areas pertaining to the ancient Roman world, was intended to isolate a large bay from the main body of the Maccarese lagoon and to control the water flow, in particular for activities related to salt extraction. The structures discovered seem to have a chronological connection with the harbours of Claudius and Traianus and with the Via Portuensis.
