This study explores the potential of an Islamic Pension Fund Administration Scheme in Nigeria by determining public perceptions about the scheme. A qualitative approach was used to carry out the study in the year 2020 using a Questionnaire with-open ended questions for gathering qualitative data through face to face interviews. A sample of thirty responses was used for thematic analysis. Analysis revealed Nigerians had a positive perception and are willing to participate in an Islamic pension scheme when it becomes available. A recommendation for further research was suggested. The study did not focus on Takaful which is an Islamic insurance product that will replace payment of annuities in Islamic pension funds, and the geographic scope was limited to the Federal Capital Territory. Islamic Pension Fund Administration scheme is a product not available in the Nigerian financial system. The conventional Pension Scheme is bedevilled with many problems; all investments carried out by th...

Corrosion inhibitive effect of 2 - (3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl) chroman-3, 5, 7-triol (DCT) has been studied using quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamic simulation techniques. The quantum chemical calculations were carried out using Material Studio version 8.0. It was performed to characterize the electronic descriptors which were responsible for the inhibitor interaction with metal using density function theory at Becke three Yarg and Parr with 6-311G++ (d, p) basis set as B3LYP/6-311G++ (d, p). Quantum chemical parameters such as , dipole moment and total negative energy charge on molecules e.t.c. were calculated. From the results calculated, the values of X, I, A, S and for DCT are given as 0.106au, 0.204au, 0.008au, 10.204au, 0.098au respectively. Molecular dynamic simulation was performed with Forcite field quench module, using COMPASS (version 2.8) force field to study the mechanism of the process and the interaction between the molecule and the metal surface respectiv...

One of the major problems of businesses these days is how to finance their asset in relatively cheaper way. This study therefore examines the impact of lease financing on the liquidity of Nigerian oil and gas companies. The data for the study were collected from the annual reports and accounts of companies in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry that are engaged in lease financing and also listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) not later than January, 2005. Fixed effect regression analysis was used to analyze the impact of lease financing on current ratio (CR). The results of the study revealed that lease financing does not have significant impact on the liquidity of oil and gas companies in Nigeria. Therefore, the research recommends that firms should improve on their liquidity since there is evidence that liquidity is not affected by lease financing. More liquidity means that firms can meet their immediate capital obligations without cutting their finances and are therefore ideal.

Gindira Mine is located in Garatu town, within North Central Nigerian basement complex. Profit from the mine is now waning, and sustaining mining activity requires defining new mine prospects in the town. The new prospects were defined by interpreting Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM), elemental composition data of foliated rocks acquired using Energy Dispersive Fluorimeter (EDXRF) equipment, Electrical Resistivity (ER), Spontaneous Potential (SP) and Induced Polarisation (IP) sounding data. Dextrally faulted lineaments observed on GDEM are schist and amphibolite with granite and granodiorite intrusions. Elemental composition analysis revealed concentration of gold, nickel, zinc and cobalt are above 400 ppm between longitudes E6.400° to E6.410° and latitudes N9.468° to N9.471°. Copper coexists with gold in concentration above 300 ppm in the southeastern part. The ore minerals are disseminated within rock outcrops. Their subsurface occurrence is indicated by coincidence of 18 to ...

Purpose This study aims to define the concepts and determine the extent to which trade misinvoicing influences money laundering activities in developing countries. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research methodology was adopted using a descriptive synthesis of secondary data due to the heterogeneous nature of data sources (empirical evidence and content analysis). Findings Analysis revealed that in recent times trade misinvoicing accounts for over 20% of international trade value between developing and developed countries, and trade misinvoicing has been identified as a trade-based money laundering mechanism. Research limitations/implications Unavailability of homogenous data relating to trade misinvoicing among developing countries, different methods for measuring trade misinvoicing and inadequate high-quality research papers that led to the use of reports from reputable organisations. Originality/value To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is among the few r...

Purpose This paper aims to critically review the strategies for prevention of illicit financial flows to and from developing countries with a view of ascertaining the most effective strategies to be selected and implemented by developing countries to stem the scourge. Design/methodology/approach The peer-reviewed journal articles were studied; those that discussed illicit financial flows were selected and reviewed critically using the systematic quantitative assessment techniques together with an output table. Findings The critical review deduced that enacting effective trade laws, trade regulations, creating a beneficial ownership registry, multinational companies disclosing information on business, automatic exchange of information on tax issues, the Financial Action Task Force 40 guidelines on anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism and domestic and international cooperation are the most reliable strategies that should be implemented by developing countries. A virtual docking simulation study was performed on thirty-five newly discovered compounds of N-(2-phenoxy) ethyl imidazo[1,2-a] pyridine-3-carboxamide (IPA), to explore their theoretical binding energy and pose with the active sites of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis target (DNA gyrase). The chemical structures of the compounds were drawn correctly with ChemDraw Ultra software, and then geometrically optimized at DFT level of theory with Spartan 14 software package. Consequently, the docking analysis was carried out using Molegro Virtual Docker (MVD). Five complexes (Complex 5, 24, 25, 33 and 35) with high binding energy were selected to examine their binding pose with the active sites of the protein. The docking results suggested a good MolDock score (≥ -90 kcal/mol) and Protein-Ligand ANT System (PLANTS) score (≥ -60 kcal/mol) which depicted that the compounds can efficiently bind with the active sites of the target. However, compound 5 has the best binding pose with the MolDock s...

Purpose The purpose of this study is to determine the extent illicit flows affect the oil and gas revenue generation in Nigeria specifically the activities concerning oil theft. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative approach using a systematic quantitative assessment technique was used to select peer-reviewed articles and reports that discussed crude oil theft in Nigeria. This was followed by the use of empirical evidence and content analysis. Findings Crude oil theft in Nigeria accounts for 10% of illicit financial flows (IFFs) from Africa annually and this amounts to US$6bn annually. Research limitations/implications Oil theft is a new subject area of public policy and academic research; data, secondary literature and peer-reviewed journal articles are limited. This paper was from the public sector perspective only. Originality/value This study is one of the few works to highlight the connection between crude oil theft and IFFs.
