As performances coincide with showing doing, the meaning and function of performative acts or actions have to be found in their meaning, more than in their effective results. Starting from Cirese's reflections about the hendyade doing/saying, and thanks to Kirshenblatt-Gimblett's suggestion that things are slow events, things and actions such as those relative to prison and asylum seekers acceptance policies, may be read "as performances". Schechner's theory inspired an approach to Italian state policies concerning security that reveals how the official and Constitutional ends are counterdicted and replaced by an inertial extension of retributive concept of penal condition, on the one hand, and, on the other, by a formal reject opposed to migrants and asylum seekers demand, that leave them as disciplined labour force for the informal (illegal) economy. Il saggio segue la recenti trasformazioni nel terreno della rappresentazione della sessualità, indotte dalla diffusione delle tecnologie digitali e della connettività in rete. Le analogie tra le tattiche di appropriazione di spazi di discorso della cultura tradizionale e le tattiche di erosione dell'ambito del mercato dell'immagine pornografica, sono la traccia seguita per avvicinarsi ad una riflessione nel merito del contenuto, ovvero la rappresentazione pornografica ed i suoi potenziali liberatori, per certi versi- la relativizzazione dell'immaginario eterosessuato, la dissacrazione della sessualità maschile, la critica implicita al sistema di genere- e reificanti ed alienanti, per ciò che invece concerne l'imposizione dell'immagine sull'esperienza, la sostituzione del desiderio dell'altro con la retorica del suo possesso, la celebrazione della performance al posto della sessualità come dialogo e incontr

Collection and research on expressive culture had its beginning in scholars' deep and often emotional and sensory attraction to folk song, narration, and craft. Writing and print were the customary 19' -century media of learning and communicating knowledge, and the growing scholarly habit of screening out emotional vocabulary further impoverished our understanding of the sensory and sensual totality of experience. While students of culture have long since begun to critically examine their fields' legacies, the more intimate, affective linkage between burgeoning scholars and their disciplinary subject has not been fully considered. It is this implicit attraction and its marginalization, if not disappearance from scholarly purview, that contributed to the equal marginalization of sensory experience, affect,and emotion from ethnographic work. After the publication of Hobsbawm and Ranger's groundbreaking The Invention of Tradition and ten years after Noyes' essay, Tradition: Three Traditions, what do we, as specialists of European cultures, have to say about "tradition"? This forum invites a selection of scholars coming from various thematic fields and countries to think about the concept of tradition, considered as one of our first conceptual tools and ethnographic objects of investigation. The authors reflexively discuss in which ways their research experiences challenge their own perceptions, understanding, and reframing of tradition. More than mapping new and allegedly new-or better "recycled"-ways in which social, ethnic, religious, or political groups use and manipulate traditions, the authors also address their perplexities with the notion of tradition. They thus add a specific layer of reflection, touching on temporality, methodology, and theoretical frames, to their practices of folklore and ethnology today.
