This paper focuses on delay and jitter for voice traffic in an IP based infrastructure for CDMA cellular networks. During soft handoff, a key aspect of CDMA networks, a mobile station (MS) may maintain connections with multiple base station transceivers (BTS). Each connection is called a soft handoff connection. The MS transmits copies of the voice frame to each BTS.

Spontaneous intramedullary apoptosis was measured in bone marrow (BM) biopsies of 175 patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) using in situ end-labeling (ISEL) of fragmented DNA. Two groups of high (n=71) versus low (n =43) levels of apoptosis were identified while 61 patients were ISEL-negative. Semiquantitative assessment of 3 cytokines, the number of macrophages and in vivo labeling indices (LI) were also determined from consecutive sections of the biopsy. Patients with high apoptosis levels tended to have a high LI (p=0.013), more macrophages in their BM biopsies (p=0.006) and higher tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) levels (not significant) compared to patients with no apoptosis. In addition, low risk MDS patients had significantly lower rates of apoptosis (p = 0.047) and lower levels of TNF-alpha (p = 0.055) compared to high-risk MDS patients. We conclude that the genesis of cytopenias in MDS is of multifactorial origin and that cytokine-associated apoptosis clearly identifies a distinct biological subgroup of patients who may benefit selectively by use of anti-cytokine therapies.

Loquat cv. Mardan is a promising variety in loquat growing areas of northern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa. Loquat growers face serious issue of true to type plants availability. An attempt was made to explore different vegetative propagation techniques to find out most successful method for nursery industry. In the study propagation through cutting (during spring) and grafting during different suitable seasons (spring and monsoon) was examined. Cuttings were treated with different growth regulators to promote rooting. PBZ, IBA and their combinations were applied to the cuttings. Highest success percentage (40%) was achieved with PBZ. This limited success in rooting of cuttings was complete failure in getting plant survival at the end of the study. In the second phase of the experiment different grafting techniques i.e. tongue, cleft and side grafting were evaluated during two different seasons i.e., spring and monsoon. Cleft grafting in the months of March/ April proved to be mos...

In loquat fruit, browning is a major problem that reduces the shelf life. Study was conducted to evaluate the potential of citric acid (CA) and ascorbic acid (AA) as anti-browning agents during storage of loquat fruit. Loquat fruit was immersed for 2 min in solutions of 250 mg/l, 500 mg/l, 750 mg/l ascorbic acid (AA) and citric acid (CA) then placed in corrugated soft board cartons and stored at 4°C for a period of 10 weeks. Changes in browning index (BI), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), total phenolic content (TP), polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and free radical scavenging activity (FRSA) as affected by different treatments were studied. Ascorbic acid at higher concentrations was useful in maintaining the fruit quality than citric acid, while AA and CA at higher concentrations significantly reduced the browning.

In the present paper we investigate the aeroacoustic characteristics of the flow over a forward facing step. The purpose is to identify relevant regions which are responsible for the noise generation. Correlation measurements are carried out for the pressure fluctuations on the wall, velocity characteristics of the flow and the recorded far-field acoustic pressures. The application of the correlation techniques

ABSTRACT This paper presents a new sensing application to diagnose power semiconductor aging in power drive systems. It has been shown previously that device parasitic characteristics change during the aging process which results in detectable changes in their frequency response. This change is manifested in the current signal at very high frequencies. Therefore, using a wideband AC current sensor, high frequency components of the current can be acquired, providing a way to detect device aging.
