Synthesis of natural products has speeded up drug discovery process by minimizing the time for their purification from natural source. Several diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD) demand exploring multi targeted drug candidates, and for the first time we report the multi AD target inhibitory potential of synthesized dihydroactinidiolide (DA). Though the activity of DA in several solvent extracts have been proved to possess free radical scavenging, anti bacterial and anti cancer activities, its neuroprotective efficacy has not been evidenced yet. Hence DA was successfully synthesized from β-ionone using facile two-step oxidation method. It showed potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC) 34.03 nM, which was further supported by molecular docking results showing strong H bonding with some of the active site residues such as GLY117, GLY119 and SER200 of AChE. Further it displayed DPPH and (.NO) scavenging activity with IC value ...

ABSTRACT This contribution reports the first synthesis of conducting polymers (CPs), specifically, polyaniline (PAn) and polypyrrole (PPy), in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). CPs synthesized electrochemically in scCO2 were characterized with cyclic voltammetry (CV), four-point probe conductivity, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-vis spectroscopy. Preliminary data indicate that CPs synthesized by this method exhibit novel morphology and high conductivity comparable to that synthesized by traditional methods.

This is the first report on the preparation of nanobelts/nanodiscs of poly(1,5-diamino naphthalene) (PDAN-P) in bulk quantities through a "hard-soft combined templates" approach. PDAN was nanostructured within the channels of MCM-41 (hard template) in the presence of beta-napthalene sulfonic acid (beta-NSA) (soft template) and further used as the seed for the bulk preparation of pure PDAN nanobelts/nanodiscs of PDAN (PDAN-P). Field emision scanning electron microscope image reveals that a typical nanobelt has a length of approximately 3 microm, with a uniform breadth of approximately 150 nm and a thickness of approximately 50 nm. UV-Visible spectrum reveals that the electronic features of PDAN-P are different from PDAN prepared by conventional method (PDAN-C). The electrochemical and interfacial characteristics of PDAN-P were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy and compared with PDAN-C. The current density characteristics of ITO/PDAN-P and ITO/PDAN-C were also compared. The potential for the onset of current and the current densities beyond the onset potentials were higher at ITO/PDAN-P than for ITO/PDAN-C. Results from electrochemical imedance spectroscopy informed that the ac conductivity of PDAN-P is higher than PDAN-C. Thus, PDAN-P exhibits distinctly different electronic and electrochemical characteristics as compared to PDAN-C.

Electroanalysis of endosulfan, an important organochlorine pesticide and o -chlorophenol, a toxic pollutant was carried out with polypyrrole coated glassy carbon electrode. Pyrrole was electropolymerised on glassy carbon electrode potentiostatically at 0.9 V. Cyclic voltammogram, square wave voltammogram, differential pulse stripping voltammogram and square wave stripping voltammogram under their optimum experimental conditions were obtained for the determination of both compounds. On polypyrrole coated electrode, higher peak current response was observed with differential pulse and squarewave stripping techniques. Comparatively better analytical signal was noticed with square waveform than the differential pulse form. Optimum stripping voltammetric conditions were arrived and the calibration plot was made. The determination limit is 2.457 2 10 3 and 23.346 mM for endosulfan and 7.779 2 10 and 26.916 mM for o-chlorophenol.

The course of the reaction between copper sulfate (CuSO4) and 4-aminodiphenylamine (4ADPA) was monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy in p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA). Formation of poly(4-aminodiphenylamine)/copper nanoparticle composite (P4ADPA/CuNC) was witnessed through the steady increase in absorbance at 410, 580 and >700 nm. The absorbance at 410 nm as well as >700 nm are correlated to the amount of P4ADPA/CuNC formation and was subsequently used to determine the rate of formation of P4ADPA/CuNC (RP4ADPA/CuNC) at any time during the course of the reaction. RP4ADPA/CuNC shows a first-order dependence on [4ADPA] and a half-order dependence on [CuSO4]. A kinetic rate expression was established between RP4ADPA/CuNC and experimental parameters such as [4ADPA] and [CuSO4]. The rate constant for the formation of P4ADPA/CuNC was 8.98 × 10(-3) mol(-0.5) l(0.5) s(-1). Field emission scanning electron and transmission electron micrographs revealed that the morphology of the P4ADPA/CuNC was influenced by the reaction conditions.

Nano size Polypyrrole (PPY) was synthesized electrochemically in presence of three different surfactants namely CTAB, CSA and TTX-100. Cyclic voltammetric studies showed an irreversible oxidation of pyrrole in the presence of surfactants. The currents of the broad peak were 4.26mA, 5.3mA and 8.6mA for PPY/CTAB, PPY/CSA and PPY/TTY-100 respectively. The FT IR spectra of electrochemically synthesized PPY in presence and absence of surfactants were analyzed and the prominent peaks were assigned properly. The presence of N-H group in both cases suggests the presence of pyrrole units in the polymer. From the XRD results the particle sizes of all the four PPYs were determined and the values are as follows: PPY (34 nm), PPY/CSA (31 nm), PPY/CTAB (30nm), PPY/TTX-100 (29 nm). The PPY/TTX-100 exhibited highest electrical conductivity (2.04 ×10−3 S/cm) among other PPY synthesized (PPY/CTAB - 1.13 ×10−3 S/cm, PPY/CSA - 1.09×10−3 S/cm and PPY - 1.27 ×10−3 S/cm). SEM images of PPY/CSA showed aggl...

Two reactive azo dyes Reactive yellow 84 (RY84) and Reactive Red 120 (RR120) were investigated voltammetrically using plain glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and multiwalled carbon nanotube modified GCE (MWCNT/GCE). Influence of pH, scan rate and concentration on voltammograms were studied. The irreversible oxidation process observed for both dyes was adsorption controlled. The surface characterization of the modified electrode in the absence and presence of dyes was done using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A systematic study of the experimental parameters that affects differential pulse stripping voltammetry (DPSV) was carried out and the optimized experimental conditions were arrived. Under optimized conditions, stripping voltammetry procedure was developed for the determination of reactive dyes. MWCNT/GCE seems to present better responses than plain GCE and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.6 μg mL-1 for RY84 and 0.3μg mL-1 for RR120 on this modified system. Suitability of the...

The mononuclear copper(II) complexes (1&2) of ligands L(1) [N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)-1,4-bis(3-iminopropyl)piperazine] or L(2) [N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-5-bromobenzyl)-1,4-bis(3-iminopropyl) piperazine] have been synthesized and characterised. The single crystal X-ray study had shown that ligands L(1) and L(2) crystallize in a monoclinic crystal system with P21/c space group. The mononuclear copper(II) complexes show one quasireversible cyclic voltammetric response near cathodic region (-0.77 to -0.85 V) in DMF assignable to the Cu(II)/Cu(I) couple. Binding interaction of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) investigated by absorption studies and fluorescence spectral studies show good binding affinity to CT DNA, which imply both the copper(II) complexes can strongly interact with DNA efficiently. The copper(II) complexes showed efficient oxidative cleavage of plasmid pBR322 DNA in the presence of 3-mercaptopropionic acid as reducing agent through a mechanistic pathway involving formation of singlet oxygen as the reactive species. The Schiff bases and their Cu(II) complexes have been screened for antibacterial activities which indicates that the complexes exhibited higher antimicrobial activity than the free ligands.

ABSTRACT Copolymer of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and diclofenac (DCF) was synthesized by chemical oxidation using FeCl3 in neutral medium. The copolymer exhibited good solubility in many organic solvents. The UV-vis spectrum of the copolymer revealed the presence of benzenoid and polaron or bipolaron state. Random distribution of the monomers in the copolymer was proposed based on the reactivity ratios of the monomers determined using Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tudos methods. The rate of the copolymerization depended on the first power of each monomer. The FTIR spectrum showed the presence of hydrogen bonded N-H, quinone type structure of thiophene ring and C-Cl bond in the copolymer. Linear variation of anodic peak current at 560 mV in the cyclic voltammogram of copolymer thin film with scan rate indicated the adherence of electroactive copolymer. When the applied potential increased from −600 to 1000 mV, the color of the copolymer changed from neutral yellow to brown and to violet medium showing multicolor electrochromic behaviour. XRD results revealed crystallite copolymer with size 87 nm. SEM analysis confirmed uniform crystalline nature of the copolymer. The TGA, DTA and DSC studies suggested good thermal stability of the copolymer. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 2787–2796, 2007

Reported herein is the preparation of a new nanostructured composite consisting of PANI(SH) (where PANI(SH) is poly(aniline-co-4-aminothio phenol)) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)) via "seed"-induced bulk polymerization. The PANI(SH)-AuNPs composite was designated as PANI(SH)-Au-NS(P). The composite was characterized in terms of its morphology and structural, thermal, and electrochemical properties. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) image of PANI(SH)-Au-NS(P) revealed the presence of PANI(SH) nanospheres (sizes: approximately 150-250 nm) with finely distributed AuNPs (approximately 10 nm). The usefulness of PANI(SH)-Au-NS(P) as an electrocatalyst towards the oxidation of methanol was tested.
