After receiving my MS in Anthropology in 1997 I began working as an archaeological consultant specializing in conducting archaeological surveys within Central Florida.Since 2006, I have been the cultural resources manager for the 45th Space Wing, United States Air Force. I am responsible for all cultural resources at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Patrick Air Force Base, Malabar Transmitter Annex, and Jonathan Dickinson Missile Tracking Annex. I am also the Principal Investigator for the Cape Canaveral Archaeological Mitigation Project which is a 5 year partnership between the 45th Space Wing and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Central Florida. The project is conducting intensive Phase I and II investigations at sites threatened by climate change and sea level rise.Besides being a professional archaeologist, I created Archaeologists for Autism in 2013 for children and young adults with autism and related disorders. The goal is to educate these individuals about archaeology on their terms and provide a free, fun-filled day.edit

The Archaeologists for Autism mission is to unlock the potential of children and young adults with autism spectrum disorders and at the same time, we aim to provide children with on the spectrum and their families a chance to experience archaeology (as well as paleontology, history and Native American heritage) in a fun, low stress environment. We present the activities in a low stress/low stimuli environment specifically designed for children on the spectrum. At our Archeologists for Autism event, children and young adults on the autism spectrum and their families will be walking the grounds of an actual archaeological site and be able to enjoy a wide range of activities related to archaeology and paleontology, live music, face-painting, and much more. Participants will be able to use social skills, and use various functional skills, all while having fun!

Fox Lake Sanctuary is a nature preserve located in northern Brevard County, Florida that is owned and managed by the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program. The sanctuary is located on lands around the west and south banks of South Lake and it is the predominant permanent freshwater source within the property. Fox Lake Sanctuary, while itself, containing a rich and diverse environment is located within close proximity to the St. Johns River to the west, and as one moves east the there are the brackish waters of the Indian River, Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River; and finally the Atlantic Ocean (Figure 1). These bodies of water along with the lands between them would have provided rich and diverse subsistence opportunities for prehistoric hunters-gatherers-fishers.

About 1 in 68 children has been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network.
ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
ASD is almost 5 times more common among boys (1 in 42) than among girls (1 in 189).
About 1 in 6 children in the United States had a developmental disability in 2006-2008, ranging from mild disabilities such as speech and language impairments to serious developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autism.

Between FYs 2009 and 2015 a series of archaeological surveys were conducted within Skid Strip and adjacent parcels. These investigations were scheduled according to the proposed land clearing activities funded for each of the years. By the end of FY 2015 a total of five previously recorded site and 18 unrecorded sites were discovered. The sites can be divided into those associated directly with the Skid Strip and its activities, those sites associated with missile tracking activities at CCAFS, and sites that predate the Skid Strip.

On October 24, 2015, Space Coast Archaeological Research Foundation sponsored an archaeological activity consisting of the excavation of a test unit during the second annual Archaeologists for Autism event. Together with students from the Department of Anthropology, University of Central Florida a test unit was excavated near an area previously investigated during the 2004 to 2006 field seasons. Assisting the archaeologists were children on the autism spectrum and their families. A Bureau of Archaeological Research Permit (BAR Permit No. 1516.003) was issued for the investigation.

In support of the Habitat Restoration Program at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), a program to systematically conduct cultural resource assessment surveys (CRAS) of land management units (LMUs) was established. In addition, deficiencies were found related to the testing of sites along the east bank of the Banana River. All eastern boundaries of sites along the river are suspected of being incorrect. The purpose of the cultural resource surveys is to identify and establish boundaries of previously unrecorded archaeological sites and reassess previously recorded sites. From May and July 2013 a CRAS was conducted of LMUs 50 and 166 located along Samuel C. Phillips Parkway (Pkwy) on CCAFS and is the subject of this report.
