As cancer has become the second most common cause of death in the world today, how to allow advanced cancer patients to die with dignity has gotten gradually more and more taken paid attention. The study aims to explore the current status and challenges of palliative care for advanced cancer patients in the Chinese Mainland. This study used a semi-structured interview approach by interviewing 14 respondents. The respondents involved patients, family members and relevant practitioners in two regions in China in discovering and summarizing the current status of palliative care implementation for advanced cancer patients in the Chinese Mainland. The study found three challenges of palliative care in the Chinese Mainland: the development of theory and practice being out of sync, the dilemma of operation and promotion, and multiple challenges between different characters. The government should devote multi-dimensional developments and put advanced cancer patients in a central position to...

This chapter aims to present a logical discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they are being treated as incorrect concepts in the academic world and the ethnic community. The Santal is one of the examples from Bangladesh. Methodologically, this chapter follows the 'capability approach' by Amartya Sen to understand the changing trend in the Santal community of Bangladesh. The discussion shows that despite being a global phenomenon, sustainable development is not an ideal coupling phrase to combat global issues because it falls into the global trap within. Based on secondary data from the literature and the first author's reflections, the study of versatile literature has been noted in this chapter.

The chapter demonstrates how the Facebook platform has become an important field complement to the classical ethnographic genres in the Santal community of Bangladesh. The authors focus on this social network as the most popular one globally regarding the number of registered users and as the leading platform for Santal groups. As of April 2022, about 15 Santal online groups and pages of both open and closed types and differences in numbers of users and activity degrees are registered on Facebook. Despite the internal peculiarities of these Santal groups, the main goal of the communities under consideration is to consolidate the participants. Such a platform creates practical tools for maintaining social ties and space of constant communication beyond being connected to a physical location.

This chapter aims to review the five write-ups on digital ethnography and how we can mitigate adverse situations like a pandemic. This chapter is based on secondary sources to discuss the digital method and methodology for writing an ethnography for academic purposes without thrashing all uncertain barriers. It is unusual activity in the academic world and has to be used in social crisis management for the greater interest. Apart from these, vigilant situations have been depicted while the pandemic is arounds us to conduct academic activities.

For decades, Malaysia has been heavily dependent on unskilled and temporarily contracted migrant workers to fulfil labour gaps in the country. While Malaysia’s economy continues to rely on migrant workers, the COVID-19 pandemic has further aggravated their precarious working and living conditions. In-depth interviews with Nepali migrant workers and community leaders in Malaysia and Nepal in 2021 revealed the incidence of labour rights violations, compounded by the lack of access to justice and effective remedies. Besides, workers are allegedly no longer benefiting from the competitive wages, subsequently limiting the value of their remittance to Nepal. We argue that these incidents serve as the drivers of the changing views of mobility, eventually influencing the emigration environment in which the social construction of migration exists in Nepal. This study examines the migratory realities in the Nepal–Malaysia migration corridor during the pandemic, subsequently contributing to cu...

This chapter is guided by, informed by, and deals with the Indigenous African faith Ubuntu, which is translated as “I am because we are.” When we are nearing the new normal, we feel that the sense of individualism, consumerism, Eurocentric “self,” and “making self” should be replaced by a common principle of solidarity. In the new value, “I” will be merged into “we”—and “ours.” The whole study evolved with three simple questions: What is Ubuntu is? And Why and how can Ubuntu be a vector and vantage for the new normal? Tracing back to 1846, this discussion concludes that Ubuntu is a more appropriate way of establishing a just, harmonized, and rights-based society.

Methodologically, this study aligns with the analytical philosophy and the indigenous standpoint and cultural interface theory. This study found that the education system itself is contaminated with colonial legacy and historical ontology of ‘State'. The recommendations are the participation of indigenous people in deciding their education and making curricula. Although the location of this study is remote and rural, this phenomenon occurs in many countries. Therefore, this research would contribute to efforts in this regard over the world to merge humanity.

This paper aims to understand the relationship between the cash transfer program (Tayssir) and its role in promoting empowerment of rural women as a platform for social development focusing on decision-making, accessibility, and mobility in Morocco. The qualitative research was conducted between May to July 2017. It utilized a case study methodology that involved mothers from rural villages who benefited from the Tayssir program. The women are aged between 33 and 65 years old. The research was carried out using participant-observation and in-depth interviews with rural mothers. Findings from the case study showed that the cash transfer program was able to promote a degree of empowerment for women, notably in terms of accessibility and mobility. Aspects of accessibility and mobility were observed, particularly in terms of access to financial services (Post Maroc), having an ID card, and extending their social networks. However, the cash transfer program did not affect decision-making processes within the rural family. The primary reason behind that is decision-making is often collectively done among family members. Decision-making measures include making decisions on financial matters, such as; the sale of family assets as well as making improvements to the home. Within this context, women's empowerment through the Tayssir program was limited due to cultural barriers. These findings are important for the next generation of cash transfer studies. It can also serve the body of work on the effectiveness of cash transfer programs and its relation to community development.
