The advent of Industry 4.0 presents a spectrum of challenges for entrepreneurs in India, demanding specific skills and resources. Within this transformative landscape, engineering disciplines assume a pivotal role in navigating the complexities of the new industrial revolution yet pose challenges in instilling entrepreneurial skills. While universities are recognised for fostering entrepreneurial skills, a gap persists in comprehending students' intentions to pursue entrepreneurship after completing their studies, especially within technical education systems. This emphasises the necessity for a comprehensive examination of variations in entrepreneurial orientation among diverse engineering disciplines. The study employed cross-sectional research and surveyed 370 final-year engineering students from leading engineering colleges in Karnataka, India. The data analysis included Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings demonstrate a significant propensity for entrepreneurship among engineering students, highlighting attributes such as innovativeness, risk-taking, and proactiveness. However, contrary to expectations, the study does not discern distinct entrepreneurial orientations across different engineering disciplines. Importantly, it unveils that college education has minimal influence on students' entrepreneurial intentions.

The present study tests the semi strong form of efficiency of the Indian capital market with regard to bonus share announcements using event study methodology. The main concern of the semi strong tests is whether prices adjust efficiently to other information that is obviously publicly available (e.g., announcements of annual earnings, stock splits, etc.) are considered.(Fama, 1970). The issue of bonus shares involves transfer of funds from general reserve to share capital in the balance sheet. The face value of the shares remains the same while the market value tends to decrease in the proportion of increase in the number of shares issued

It is indubitable fact that the practice of workforce diversity is emerging as a source of competitive advantage for organisations. The concept of ‘global village’ and shrinking geographical distance have provided tremendous fillip for organisations to become ‘diversity-friendly.’ But, assuming the status as ‘diversity friendly’ is not an easy job for companies as the process is beset with many challenges. Put differently, being a very sensitive issue, diversity management is a double edged sword as it can be both boon as well as bane to organisations. This is because diversity practices would benefit the organisations only when it is managed effectively. It is not just making a ‘salad’ using various vegetables available in the market. It is more of creating a ‘tasty and eatable’ salad by carefully and consciously choosing the fresh and right mix of vegetables available in the market. The lesson can also be drawn from the recent IPL and Championship League cricket match where Chennai Super King’s triumph could be attributed to its effective diversity management. The team has effectively used the strength of its overseas players relative to other teams. The top management attitude coupled with conducive organisational climate and culture valuing the differences would play a pivotal role in leveraging the power of diversity to the advantage of the organisation.

Glass ceiling represents the barrier which prevents women from achieving upward mobility into senior management ranks. The proportion of women in the workforce has grown world over but it has been observed that women often lack a sponsor who promotes and sells their skills and abilities to others in the organization and helps them climb the organizational ladder to reach the senior positions thus creating a gender gap in top management and executive leadership. Reviewing the survey data on women in the workplace, findings of the research studies on glass ceiling, this paper identifies the reasons for existence of glass ceiling for women employees and presents possible recommendations to overcome glass ceiling effect.

It is indubitable fact that the changing landscape of business has brought about rampant and radical changes both in the work and workplace practices. The thrust of all companies is to leverage the bottom-line and surge ahead of the competitors. As a sequel, the work has become highly demanding and more challenging in all spheres of business. The companies solicit more time and energy from the employees to cope with realities and pressure of competitive business environment. These changes have made the employees to redefine their approach and attitude towards the work. The flip side of this change is, work began to interfere with the family life and erased the boundary between the two. This article attempts to bring out the intricacies of personal and professional commitments of employees working in the selected new generation private sector banks and their effects on both family and work life.

Banks are the essential supply chain partners of the Indian financial system to boost the growth of the national economy. The banking sector is afflicted by many challenging forces. One such is the technology impact that has led to the emergence of E-Banking by shunning the traditional system of pen and paper. Banks have to be financially sound in their operations when the investment in Information Technology is on the incline. It is of utmost importance to all – be it policy makers, bankers, researchers and scholars to assess the impact of investment in information technology on the financial and operating performance of the banks. The paper studies the impact of investment in Information Technology of Karnataka Bank Ltd. on its financial and operating performance for a period of ten years from 2001 – 02 to 2010 – 11. An attempt is made to investigate whether the investment in information technology of the bank is related to the growth of the national economy.

With the rapidly evolving technology, academics and curriculum developers experience criticism for the curriculum being outdated or unable to meet industry requirements. Additionally, the stakeholders involved in curriculum development have divergent views. Therefore, the challenges lie with academicians imparting the necessary skills and preparing the students to be industry-ready. This study takes a closer investigation of the predecessors of the curriculum gap and classifies it into preceding gaps, viz. information gap, benchmarking gap, perception gap, and learning gap. Prior research has focused on overcoming the curriculum gap, while the current study attempts to propose a framework for methodically identifying the curriculum gap. The paper follows online desk research. The framework is developed based on the multidisciplinary literature and thus provide a comprehensive view of the curriculum gap. Hence the study relies heavily on secondary sources of data. The framework trans...

In emerging economies, examining the linkage between different markets has become crucial. We have examined the linkage between crude oil and Indian oil exploration companies' equity prices. The augmented Dickey-Fuller method is used to test the stationarity of the series. The Granger causality test, Vector autoregression (VAR), and correlation methodologies are used to examine the causality between the markets. The p-values of Granger causality tests are less than 0.05, which confirms that the crude oil price causes the price movements of Indian oil exploration equities. The VAR (2) model confirmed that the prices of HOCE, OIL, and ONGC follow the first and second lag, Reliance and PETRONET equities follow the first lag of International crude price. The impulse response function shows a positive response of Indian oil exploration equity returns for the positive shocks of crude oil return. The findings of this study may help the traders and investors in the equity market, energy...

This study aims at developing econometric models to manage the price risk of Dry and Wet Cocoa beans with the help of ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) and VAR (Vector Auto Regressive). The monthly price of Cocoa beans is collected for the period starting from April 2009 to March 2020 from the office of CAMPCO Limited, Mangalore, and the ICE Cocoa futures price from the website of investing.com. The augmented dickey fuller test is used to test the stationarity of the series. The ACF and PACF correlograms are used to identify the tentative ARIMA model. Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Schwarz criterion (SBIC), Sigma square, and adjusted R2 are used to decide on the optional AR and MA terms for the models. Durbin–Watson statistics and correlograms of the residuals are used to decide on the model’s goodness of fit. Identified optimal models were ARIMA (1, 1, 0) for the Dry Cocoa beans price series and ARIMA (1, 1, 2) for the Wet Cocoa beans price series. The multiv...

Banks are one of the important players in the financial system in any economy. This study evaluate the financial performance of commercial banks in Bahrain. This study is based on eight commercial banks for the period from 2005 to 2015. The data used in this study are obtained from published annual reports and websites of the respective banks, investor's guide, newspaper, newsletters of the banks and from Central Bank of Bahrain website. We used regression, correlation analysis & t-tests to determine the relationship between different financial parameters. The results of the study indicate that the profitability has an impact on capital adequacy and financial leverage, whereas the study did not ratify the relationship between the profitability and efficiency of the banks. This study also reveals that enforcement of higher capital adequacy ratio will adversely affects the profitability of the banks. The impact of financial and oil crisis might have influenced the financial leverage of the banks there by resulted in an adverse effect on the profitability of the banks.

The remarkable growth of the Indian retail landscape over the last decade is reflected in the proliferation of supermarkets, departmental stores and hypermarkets in India. Evolving consumption patterns, raising living standards has sparked a huge demand in the food and grocery retailing. Impulse buying is a time-tested tactic by which retailers grab customer’s attention and boost average purchase value. Prior research has deliberated extensively on impulse buying in the store and its determinants. However, little effort has been made to examine the impulse buying behaviour, particularly at the retail checkout. To bridge this gap, we conducted an empirical study in the leading food and grocery modern retail stores in selected Tier I and Tier II cities in the state of Karnataka, India. The data was collected from 385 respondents using a structured questionnaire. The responses were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and multiple regression. Our study shows that impulse buying ...

The online food delivery market in India perseveres to grow at a sustained pace. The business has unique dynamics and challenges with the spike in orders during weekends, meeting delivery schedules during peak demand, offering deep discounts to address wavering customer loyalty, reducing cash burns, and managing food quality inconsistency. In contrast, the fast-paced life and the rise of millennials in the workforce is likely to assure a promising future for the food aggregators. The above backdrop has led the researchers to pursue this study. An empirical study was carried out to explore the consumption occasion and the antecedents of online food ordering in the select cities in Karnataka, India. The data was collected from 385 respondents through telephonic and mail survey using a structured questionnaire. The responses were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and multiple regression. Efficient Market Theory (EMT) states that, the prices in the stock market depict all relevant information, therefore it is impossible to beat the market as an investor is fully informed. Till the late seventies this view was supported by many empirical studies and many market models related to security valuation have been based on the concept of informational efficiency of capital market. However, late seventies and eighties brought in evidence questioning the validity of market efficiency and highlighting the anomalies existed in the stock market. One of the anomalies observed against the EMT is the day of the week effect. This effect relates to the difference in the returns across different days of the week. This paper examines the days of the week effect in the two sectoral indices of National Stock Exchange, India for the period from 1st April 2009 to 31st March 2011. Daily stock prices are converted in to daily returns by taking natural log of the difference in the price at day...

Entrepreneurship triggers the economic condition of a country. Entrepreneurship increases the standard of living and has provided opportunities to improve the standard of living. There are several studies on the relationship between the entrepreneurial characteristics and entrepreneurial intention of students. There are very few studies on the need and importance of entrepreneurial skills over the entrepreneurial intention of graduate students. This paper concentrates on the 537 graduate students of science, commerce, and arts. The reason for selecting these students is to understand the level of involvement in entrepreneurial activity and their preparedness to take up entrepreneurship as a career. Hypotheses were tested with descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and chi-square tests. This study helps to understand the willingness of students towards entrepreneurship. This paper focuses on the entrepreneurial skills required to equip graduate students to choose entrepreneurship a...

The main puirpose of this study is to examine the financial performance of retail and wholesale conventional banks in Bahrain. The study covers a period of five years from 2009 to 2013. Ratio analysis was used to analyse the comparative financial efficiency of banks under study and correlation analysis was used to test the significance. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to measure the dispersion and the stability-variability of the ratios. The results indicate that wholesale banks are more efficient than retail banks in terms of overall cost to income and asset utilisation whereas retail banks are more efficient than wholesale banks in staff cost to income and operations. Correlation analysis showed a high positive correlation of staff cost to income ratio with operational efficiency ratio and cost to income ratio in retail banks and positive correlation of staff cost to income ratio with operational efficiency ratio and cost to income ratio in wholesale banks.

The trading of natural rubber derivatives in the Indian commodity exchanges was banned several times in the past. Hence, in India, the derivatives on natural rubber are not traded actively and regularly. We have examined the possibility of a forecast model and a cross hedge tool for the natural rubber price by using crude oil futures in India. Results of the Johansen cointegration test proved that there is no cointegration equation in the model; hence, there is no scope to develop long-run models or error correction models. We have developed a vector autoregressive [VAR(2)] model to forecast the rubber price, and we examined the possibility of a cross hedge for natural rubber further by using the Pearson correlation coefficient and Granger causality test. We have extended our research to a structural VAR analysis to examine the effect of crude futures and exchange rate shocks on the natural rubber price. Our results showed that there is a short-term relationship between the crude oi...

The responses were collected through a single-stage mall intercept survey method using a structured questionnaire from 385 respondents in leading apparel stores in selected Tier I and Tier II cities in the state of Karnataka, India. The responses were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Constructs such as store layout, ambience and employees were found to be significantly positively correlated with impulse buying behavior. The variables largely explain the variation in impulse buying under store ambiance. Except ‘attention to the window display’ and ‘friendly staff’ all other twelve variables considered in the study were found to have significant impact on the impulse buying behavior. Though store ambiance, well-structured layout, and pleasant shopping experience are essential determinants of customer sati...

This research paper examines the holiday effects presence on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which is a major Indian stock exchange. Textile and clothing industry in India is one of the most important producers in the world, but also the second exporter of textile and apparels globally. The empirical analysis investigates the impact of holiday effect on the development of textile and clothing industry in India. The holiday effect is one of the most important calendar anomalies identified in the financial markets. The methodological approach includes the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U-test used to test the equality of means for different sub-sets. The findings revealed that the mean returns for pre-holiday and post holidays were greater compared to that of remaining days, but the empirical results showed that they were not statistically significant for selected stocks of BSE based on daily stock returns data for Ruby Mills and Mafatlal Industries

Semi-monthly effect is a kind of calendar anomalies which is less explored in the financial literature. The main objective of this paper to investigate the presence of semi-monthly effect in selected sectoral indices of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The study uses the daily stock returns of five sectoral indices viz S&P BSE Auto Index, S&P BSE Bankex, S&P BSE Consumer Durables Index, S&P BSE FMCG Index and S&P BSE Health Care Index for the period of 10 years starting from 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2017. The data were analyzed using two approaches namely calendar days approach and trading days approach. To test the equality of mean returns for the two halves of the month, Mann-Whitney U test is used. The empirical results of the study did not provide any evidence for the presence of semi-monthly effect in the selected sectoral indices. Nevertheless, BSE Auto Index showed significant difference in the mean returns of first half and second half of trading month during the study period.

Efficient market emerges when new information is quickly incorporated into the price so that price becomes information. Efficient market hypothesis[EMH] is the idea that information is quickly and efficiently incorporated into asset prices at any point in time, so that old information cannot be used to foretell future price movements. The study is conducted to test the random walk of futures prices. It comprises of the daily returns of Nifty futures and 19 individual stock futures of the National Stock Exchange. The study is based on the data compiled for the period of 3 years, i.e., from 19 th December 2008 to 20 th December 2011.
