This essay provides a critical overview of contemporary legal approaches to capacity in the context of dementia.  It is a pre-copy edited version of an essay published in Foster, Herring and Doron, The Law and Ethics of Dementia (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2014) pp. 271-282.

Many services with limited capacity face wide swings in demand that can be caused by the change in seasons. The effective use of expensive productive capacity is one of the secrets of success in such businesses. By working with managers in operations and human resources, service marketers need to develop strategies to bring demand and capacity into balance, in ways that create benefits for customers as well as to improve profitability for the business. Passive optical network (PON) is one of the most successful broadband access architectures being deployed worldwide. PONs provide high capacity, increased reach, and low-power consumption at a very reasonable cost, on par with the cost of DSL deployments today. This paper provides an overview of present and emerging PON technologies, and discusses PON's important role in the evolution of optical access from the architectural perspective. While describing the evolution of optical access architecture, we present two important integration options: optical+wireless access integration and metro+access integration. Potential PON capacity upgrades are discussed with special emphasis on achieving a seamless upgrade. We evaluate different PON evolution strategies in the context of next-generation PON, where gradual, demand-based migration demonstrates a number of significant benefits.

This study examines some aspects of the quality of Alternative Basic Education (ABE) provision in Ethiopia. Educational indicators of quality were formulated under two general topic areas of ABE programme process and content, and pupil learning outcomes. A qualitative-interpretative research approach and survey design was used to collect data from primary and secondary sources and to provide separate case descriptions of the five regions and two city administrations studied. The study’s main findings give clear indication of a broad spread of ABE conceptions and practices in ABE Centres in Ethiopia. The approaches and experiences of the five participating regions reveal factors that have an impact on quality ABE delivery, as well as measures that can improve quality if supported with an appropriate institutional environment.

The proposed antenna is superior to conventional antennas in terms of dimensions, gain, and efficiency while maintaining the impedance bandwidth. In order to improve the results, a non-uniform transmission line has been used for impedance matching between the radiated patch element and the coaxial cable. For designing the non-uniform transmission line, it has been expanded using cosine terms. Regarding the presence of differential equation for the variation in the impedance of the transmission line and its transformation to the state-space equation, NMPC has been employed to design the transmission line and determine the cosine expansion coefficients. Two base antennas, as MIMO, were simulated configuration and fabricated. The surface area of the proposed MIMO antenna is 0.99 k 2 g , the wavelength has been obtained for the center frequency of the 3.16 GHz to 10.6 GHz range, and its mutual coupling, peak gain, channel capacity loss (CCL), total active reflection coefficient (TARC), mean effective gain (MEG) and diversity gain (DG), envelope correlation (ECC) are acceptable. In an era saddled by mounting energy dependency and insecurity, some are not only turning to renewable geothermal energy to ensure access, but it is growing in usage in the Western region of the United States of America. Notwithstanding the United States role as a major producer of geothermal resources globally, geothermal energy has over the last several years found ample use in various spheres of daily endeavors within communities. The surging demand is much so that, it now contributes quite significantly in the generation of electricity to power households and farming activities and to sustain domestic supplies essential to segments of the economy for communities from California to Nevada. With much of the production levels, installations and plant capacities of geothermal power fully entrenched in the western region of the country considering the geologic and physical attributes, California stands out as the largest producer of geothermal power compared to its neighbors in the western region. For that, the demand for geothermal resource has been recurrent in quite a few counties over the years on the California side of the US Western region. In the face of widespread demands in the region, geothermal energy infrastructure in the form of new plants has gradually penetrated different states under varying level of production and installed capacities to boost energy security and sustain development of the areas. Even at that, very little has been done in the literature to undertake a regional assessment of the potentials of geothermal energy using a mix scale approach of spatial analysis anchored in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Accordingly, this study will fill that void in research by utilizing mix scale tools of GIS and descriptive states in analyzing the geothermal energy potentials of states in the Western region of the United States. Emphasizing the issues, trends, impacts, production, factors and future efforts through recommendations, the results point to growing usage and changes in a whole set of energy indicators ranging from production and demands, installed capacity to others over time in the region with much of that in California coupled with an uptick in geothermal portfolio. Additionally, the GIS mapping of the trends highlights gradual dispersion of changing patterns in consumption and presence of infrastructural facilities visibly concentrated in a cluster of areas located in the western region. With all these attributed to a host of socioeconomic and physical factors, the paper proposed suggestions ranging from the design of a regional geothermal energy information system, the education of the public and more infrastructural development in the sector.

This is a research report of an investigation of the linkage between Institutional Strengthening and the capacity of NGOs to deliver more efficient and effective services. It is a case study of three Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) affiliated to USAID/FANIKISHA Institutional Strengthening Project. It is an original research project for partial fulfillment of M.Sc. in Development Management at the Open University – United Kingdom. The study adapted qualitative research methods through semistructured questionnaires that were jointly completed by staff members from the three NGOs; this was triangulated by Skype interviews with the heads of the NGOs. This information was supported by literature review from relevant publications that provided grounded theory in relating development management definitions and aspects within the FANIKISHA context, as well as grey literature from project documents from the NGOs. The paper aims to use the Granger causality to deduce the structure of recursive model. Manipulating data from five sectors of Moroccan economy we form causal chain between endogenous variables to build a recursive system. The findings exhibit two group, the first one consists of agriculture, agro-industry and manufacturing sectors where the investment effort determines the balance trade and influences the cash-flow level. Meanwhile, in the second group formed by energy and mines sectors, the balance trade determines the investment effort and influences the cash-flow. The Granger causality justifies the modeling of the system. But, we cannot avoid ex-post the causality and exogeneity tests for the predetermined endogenous variables as Hausman and Holly tests. There tests are running once the model is estimated.

In recent years, an extensive examination going on performance of structure during a seismic event. During seismic action, building will deform in in-elastic zone, soits required evaluation which consider post-elastic behavior of structure. Performance based seismic design is a modern technique to earthquake resistance which can predict performance of structure using rigorous non-linear static analysis. Easy and most used method to evaluate performance of structure is non-linear static analysis widely known as pushover analysis. As name implies, it's a process of pushing structure horizontally, with a prescribed loading pattern incrementally, i.e "pushing" structure & plotting total applied shear force & associated lateral displacement at each increment, until structure reaches a limit state or collapse condition. It provides better understanding of seismic performance of building & also give identification of progression of damage and subsequently failure of building's structural element .By pushover analysis, One can get behavior of building in non-linear zone, which is not covered in conventional elastic design.

Capacity is a central issue for people with disabilities and some older adults, and its place in the legal system is the subject of debate. This Article investigates one of the central issues of controversy involving judicial decisions on capacity (which may be called 'competence'): whether such decisions involve an unspoken role for beneficence, despite the law's insistence that beneficence should not have a role in this determination.

Scholars around the globe have contested the inadequate infrastructure and tools used by public sector
agencies to monitor and evaluate public policies and programmes. Some of the urgent issues of concern deal with the
inadequate human capacity in public agencies and departments to conduct fair and credible evaluations in the public
sector. South Africa is not the only country that has adopted a government wide monitoring and evaluation system, other
countries like Ghana, Kenya, Benin and Uganda have also endorsed formal monitoring and evaluation practice in the
public sector. This article argues that monitoring and evaluation must not just measure the effectiveness and efficiency of
public programmes and processes, but it must create a sustainable process whereby participants and evaluators can
learn from the process. Capacity building in monitoring and evaluation must be fairly and continuous conducted to offer
credible and valid information and knowledge on M&E by training agencies and institutions like universities. This
theoretical paper adopted document analysis strategy to review and evaluate documents used as data source. Lessons
learnt from this article contribute towards the existing strategies to enhance monitoring and evaluation

Unsignalized intersections are an integral part of traffic network. These are generally found in various traffic conditions. Unsignalized intersections are generally a cause for accidents at intersections especially in a country like India where the rules are not strictly followed. Capacity of the intersection is generally required to calculate and assure a smooth flow of traffic without any conflicts. The site chosen for this project was Congress nagar T point. The capacity at the intersection was calculated using the software HCS 2000. After the estimation of the capacity at an uncontrolled intersection a signal was manually designed by using Webster method and the capacity at that controlled intersection was estimated manually. The results showed slight variations in terms of the capacity and LOS. The capacity at signalized intersections was found to be better than unsignalised intersection. The results illustrates that the capacity increased up to 23% at signalized intersection.

Modeling and simulation have multiple applications in the automotive industry such as the design of systems or the redesign of existing systems. Currently, automakers are turning to modeling and simulation to speed up the design process and achieve more successful approaches. The main objective of this project is to design the virtual electrochemical lithium battery that has similar properties as real batteries. The properties considered are SOC, OCV, Capacity, Temperature dependence of battery.

There are few issues more emotional and divisive than what has become known as “the right to die.” One camp advocates the “death with dignity” approach, according to which the patient is an autonomous being who can form his or her own judgment on the timing and process of dying. The other camp advocates the sanctity of life approach, in which life is intrinsically valuable and should be sustained as long as possible. Is
there a right answer?
    In The Right to Die With Dignity, Raphael Cohen-Almagor takes a balanced approach in analyzing this emotionally charged debate, viewing the dispute uniquely from public policy and international perspectives. This book offers an interdisciplinary, compelling study in medicine, law, religion and ethics. It is, arguably, the most comprehensive book yet to be written on the fascinating question of whether physician-assisted suicide should be allowed. Cohen-Almagor delineates the distinctions between active and passive euthanasia and discusses some of the legal measures that have been invoked in the United States and abroad. He outlines the reasons non-blood relatives should be given a role in deciding a patients’ last wishes. He examines euthanasia policies in the Netherlands and the 1994 Oregon Death with Dignity Act, suggesting improvements to each. Finally, he makes a circumscribed plea for voluntary physician-assisted suicide.

Serum separator tube is composed of synthetic polymer gels designed to separate serum from the formed elements. In line with this, an alternative serum separator gel using 0.25 g/mL concentrated Ipomoea batatas starch extract was produced. Results show that all the samples in the alternative serum separator gel successfully separated the serum from the formed elements. However the serum blood glucose levels using the alternative serum separator gel showed no evidence of agreement [ρϲ = 0.133, CI95%: -0.23 to 0.46] when compared with commercial serum separator tube.
