Confirmatory factor analyses

This study gives results of the first phase of the 12-18 year old Turkish students’ norm study of The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), which deveoped by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia & McKeachie (1993). The scale was administrated to 1114 students from 3 primary schools and 3 high schools in Ankara in Turkish language, science, mathematics and social science courses. After eliminating the questionnaires which have missing and extreme values, the analyses were done on 762 valid questionnaires for motivation subscale and 1100 valid questionnaires for learning strategies subscale. Results of the confirmatory factor analyses show that the first subscale, Motivation, has six factors, and the second subscale, Learning Strategies, has nine factors according to original scale’s factor structures. In this paper the refinement and psychometric properties of the Infant-Toddler Social and Emotional Assessment (ITSEA) are described. Results from a sociodemographically diverse birth cohort sample of 1,235 parents of children between the ages of 12 and 36 months are presented. Confirmatory factor analyses supported the hypothesized Internalizing, Externalizing, Regulatory, and Competence domains as well as the 17 individual scales that comprise the ITSEA. Findings for 3 additional indices useful in identifying significant psychopathology are presented. Subgroup analyses revealed structural invariance and expected mean level differences across both child sex and 6-month age bands. Child sex differences emerged for some problem and most competence scales, with boys rated as higher on Activity/Impulsivity and girls rated higher on Anxiety and most Competence scales. This study examines the effects of leaders' self-awareness of their own leadership on followers' satisfaction, self-leadership, and leader effectiveness. A leader's self-awareness was conceptualized as the degree of similarity between the leader's self-description and his or her followers' descriptions of leader behaviors. Transformational and empowering leadership are measured from 48 leaders and 222 of their followers. Results from confirmatory factor analyses provide support for two types of leadership: transformational and empowering. Results from polynomial regression analyses indicate that self-awareness of transformational leadership is related to leader effectiveness and followers' supervisory satisfaction. In contrast, self-awareness of empowering leadership is related to followers' self-leadership. These effects of leadership self-awareness extend beyond the direct effect of leadership on the outcome variables.

This article introduces the Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI; Bodenmann, 2008 ) and aims (1) to investigate the reliability and aspects of the validity of the Italian and French versions of the DCI, and (2) to replicate its factor structure and reliabilities using a new Swiss German sample. Based on 216 German-, 378 Italian-, and 198 French-speaking participants, the factor structure of the original German inventory was able to be replicated by using principal components analysis in all three groups after excluding two items in the Italian and French versions. The latter were shown to be as reliable as the German version with the exception of the low reliabilities of negative dyadic coping in the French group. Confirmatory factor analyses provided additional support for delegated dyadic coping and evaluation of dyadic coping. The main purpose of this study was to validate a French version of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ). A sample of 224 young adults completed the French translation of the CERQ and the Beck Depression Inventory II. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses showed that a nine-factor model also explained the data collected with the French version. Internal reliability scores for each strategy ranged from .68 to .87. As in the original version, we found that the emotion regulation strategies could be grouped into adaptive and less adaptive cognitive regulation strategies. In addition, we observed that Self-blame and Rumination are key cognitive regulation strategies predicting whether high or low depressive symptoms are reported.

The purpose of the study was to develop a short measure of internalized homophobia (IH), one that reflected contemporary attitudes toward homosexuality and included items designed to assess the domain of sexual comfort with gay men, a domain that has been notably absent from other measures of IH. The Short Internalized Homonegativity Scale (SIHS) was informed by the Reactions to Homosexuality Scale (RHS) and the contention that currently available measures of IH were outdated in their assessment of the construct and/or failed to assess its covert manifestations. A geographically diverse sample of gay men completed an online questionnaire ( N = 1,307), and the 677 respondents from the United States formed the sample for the study. Confirmatory factor analyses supported a single higher order construct of IH comprising the lower order factors of Public Identification as Gay, Sexual Comfort With Gay Men, and Social Comfort With Gay Men.

The present study examined if habit strength moderated the influence of intention on fruit consumption in a Dutch adult sample (N= 521, 46.3% males, mean age= 34.50, SD= 10.87), using the theoretical relations of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Background: The SF-12v2 is the improved version of the SF-12v1. This study aimed to validate the SF-12v2 in Iran. Methods: A random sample of the general population aged 18 years and over living in Tehran, Iran completed the instrument. Reliability was estimated using internal consistency and validity was assessed using known-groups comparison and convergent validity. In addition the factor structure of the questionnaire was extracted by performing both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA).

The paper made a factor analysis of the variables that shape the tax morale of individuals in developing economies as well as the factors that citizens considered to be important in assessing government performance. Data from the Afrobarometer Survey 6 Questionnaire administered on Nigerians was used for the analysis. Desk review of several journal articles was made to extract the relevant factors used for the study. A collection of variables offered in the literature as determinants of tax morale and the aspects of government that are measured when assessing government performance were synthesized as measurement parameters. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted using principal component analysis. The study established that the data from Afrobarometer Survey 6 on Nigeria was found reliable with adequate goodness of fits, which is significant for any study. The paper found six of the items on the questionnaire suitable to measure tax morale and ten other items suitable as measures of government performance under three dimensions as an improvement on economic issues, infrastructure provision, and social issues. The paper recommends that the government and other policymakers should pay sufficient attention to tax morale and the performance of government, especially adequate provision of food and improving the standard of living among the poor citizens before attempts at controlling crime.

The Motivational Climate Scale for Youth Sports (MCSYS) provides an age-appropriate measure of coach-initiated motivational climates in youth sports. Items have a readability level of grade 4.0 or below. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed that both child and adolescent athletes (ages 9–14) discriminate between mastery- and ego-involving coaching behaviors. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Committed Action Questionnaire (CAQ-8) in a non-clinical sample. The study evaluated the factor analyses, reliability, and validity of the CAQ-8 in an Iranian sample. Methods: The psychometric properties of the CAQ-8 were investigated in a Persian student (n=180), through convenient sampling for data gathering. Participants filled out a battery of questionnaires, including CAQ-8, medical outcomes study questionnaire 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II), and Depression, Anxiety, And Stress Scale (DASS-21). Confirmatory factor analyses and goodness of fit indexes were used to examine the reliability and validity of the Persian version of the CAQ-8. Results: The Persian version of the CAQ-8 revealed satisfactory levels of internal consistency (α=0.77), and significant association with various indexes of theoretically-related instruments such as DASS-21, SF-36, and AAQ-II. Confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated that the Persian version of the CAQ-8 yielded a 7-item questionnaire by the two-factor model. Conclusion: The Persian version of CAQ appears to be a valid, reliable, and adequate measure for the assessment of the concept of committed action in the Iranian sample.

PurposePrior research has demonstrated the positive effects of high involvement work systems on various outcomes but none to date has conducted a comparative test of alternative, plausible models of these systems. This paper aims to address this issue.Design/methodology/approachA test of five high involvement work system models was conducted. The models were tested using employee perceptions of the presence and effectiveness of the organizational practices included in these systems, whereas a majority of prior studies have measured high involvement work practices based on managers' perceptions only.
