The report comes, as did its predecessor Standing on shifting sand, from a national survey of Australian PLWHA. The HIV Futures II survey is a core component of a broader program of research concerned with the social and psychological experience of living with HIV.

Se analiza la percepción de las familias españolas sobre su participación en los centros escolares de secundaria, identificando perfiles de participación familiar basados en los rasgos sociodemográficos (titularidad del centro, nacionalidad, etc.) y las distintas vías de participación (comunicación, actividades del centro, sentimiento de pertenencia, implicación en AMPA, Consejo escolar y desde el hogar). Se realiza análisis cluster en dos fases con los datos recogidos de 5022 familias de estudiantes de secundaria de España, mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario. Se aprecian tres modelos diferentes de participación familiar en los centros escolares: familias españolas con moderada participación y bajo sentimiento de pertenencia; familias inmigrantes con baja participación y moderado sentimiento de pertenencia; y por último, familias españolas con alta participación y elevado sentimiento de pertenencia.

Aims: This research was designed to explore the extent to which the use of alcohol or drugs by one member of a family affects the psychosocial state of other family members. The study asks whether family members of substance abusers are more likely to report increased depression, anxiety and stress then the general population in Iceland? Are there significant differences between family members; e.g., spouses, parents, adult children and siblings by gender, age, education and income? Data and methods: The instrument used for this purpose is the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), which is designed to measure those three related mental states. This study assessed the main causes of conflict among Zimbabwean families in Greater Western Sydney and possible solutions. The main issues of contention were found to be: Disagreements on the management of money, changing gender roles, isolation and separation from the extended family, men’s loss of breadwinner status and intergenerational cultural differences between parents and children. To gather data for this research, ten (10) semi-structured interviews were conducted with purposively sampled men, women and youths. The interviews were conducted in venues that were desirable to the participants. The interviews went for between 1 to 2 hours on each sitting. Not a single interview went for less than 1 hour or for more than 2 hours. To cater for gender equity, equal numbers of male and female participants were involved in the research project. The last ten years have seen a growth in the knowledge base around children’s need for safe, stable and secure environments. There is a deepening understanding of the harm and damage that occurs when safety and security are compromised, and children are exposed to threats and fear. Yet, responses to families experiencing violence and abuse have not always kept pace with these advances in research. The laws, systems and services with which families engage can fail to provide or support the factors necessary to enable children to thrive. They may instead undermine the work of protective and safe parents who are attempting to create such environments. At their worst, bureaucratic and legal interventions can become the catalysts that lead to increased or ongoing harm or trauma. This knowledge has also resulted in a mutation dataset that can be used in a cost and time effective manner to screen frequent population-specific genetic variations associated with diseases such as inherited retinal disease (IRD). We genetically screened 13 families from a cohort of 81 Pakistani IRD families diagnosed with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), retinitis pigmentosa (RP), congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB), or cone dystrophy (CD). Purpose The purpose of this article was to understand the experience of speech impairment (speech sound disorders) in everyday life as described by children with speech impairment and their communication partners. Method Interviews were undertaken with 13 preschool children with speech impairment (mild to severe) and 21 significant others (family members and teachers). Results A phenomenological analysis of the interview transcripts revealed 2 global themes regarding the experience of living with speech impairment for these children and their families. The first theme encompassed the problems experienced by participants, namely (a) the child’s inability to “speak properly,” (b) the communication partner’s failure to “listen properly,” and (c) frustration caused by the speaking and listening problems. Researchers conducted a series of open-ended semistructured interviews with 25 incarcerated men and women who received substance abuse treatment while their children were being cared for by relatives. Research questions were developed on the basis of the gaps in knowledge identified in the available data on addicted incarcerated parents whose children are in kinship care. Respondents in this study were asked questions designed to explore issues such as parent–child bonding, relationships with caregivers, and the impact of drug abuse and incarceration on the family. Results of this study indicate that there is a need for a multidisciplinary, wraparound approach to designing services for affected parents, children, and caregivers.

This article analyses the evidence obtained from the application of the dialogic model of prevention and resolution of conflicts to eradicate cyberbullying behaviour in a primary school in Catalonia. The Dialogic Prevention Model is one of the successful educational actions identified by INCLUD-ED (FP6 research project). This case study, based on communicative methodology, includes the results obtained from documentary analysis, communicative observations and in-depth interviews. The evidence collected indicates that the implementation of this type of model can help to overcome cyberbullying; children are more confident to reject violence, students support the victims more and the whole community is involved in Zero Tolerance to violence.

Latinx immigrant parents have historically been blamed for institutional academic shortcomings and for their children's educational challenges, resulting from systemic and institutional inequalities embedded in the education system (Valencia, 2010; Valencia & Black, 2002). However, current empirical studies on Latina immigrant mothers provide insight into how they encounter systemic barriers when navigating the education system, hindering their role in their children's educational trajectory. The scholarly articles analyzed in this systematic literature review show that administrative gatekeeping, language discrimination, racist nativism, and hegemonic cultural practices emerged as mechanisms that reproduced the exclusion of Latina immigrant mothers. Additionally, revealed in the literature was the institutional impact of self-perception among Latina immigrant mothers. Despite the challenges confronted by Latina immigrant mothers, they continue to have high hopes and aspirations for their children's educational journey. The findings have significant implications for Latinx immigrant parents, Latinx students, and school practices.

Such parenting stress can be further exacerbated by cultural and environmental factors such as the more conservative and collectivistic Asian values. Therefore, this review identifies and synthesizes literature on the parenting experiences and needs of Asian primary caregivers of children with autism using a critical interpretive method. A qualitative meta-summary was conducted. Seven electronic databases (CINAHL, Embase, ProQuest, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched from each database’s date of inception to November 2018. This qualitative research study explores the experiences of 49 younger mothers, who were below the age of 25 when they had their first child and in receipt of Centrelink income support payments. The findings show that younger mothers aspire to complete education or training, find a good steady job, and provide all the opportunities they can for their child. Many do not know how to access appropriate support services to help them achieve their goals or overcome the multiple barriers that stand in their way. Younger mothers are most inclined to engage with a service when there are no feelings of stigma and there is a clear reason to do so that is linked to their child’s wellbeing.

Casa, lavoro e famiglia: spunti per nuove prospettive sulle significazioni spaziali e le performance di genere Parole chiave: Covid-19, lockdown, geografia di genere, geografia della famiglia, spazio pubblico/privato, lavoro domestico. Questo contributo teorico, inserendosi nel panorama della geografia di genere e della famiglia, si propone di aprire il dibattito sul cambiamento di uso e significato dello spazio pubblico e privato durante il primo lockdown (marzo-aprile 2020) e su come tali cambiamenti abbiano modificato le pratiche di genere. Tali risemantizzazioni hanno visto la casa diventare luogo di condensazione di diverse attività, mentre lo spazio pubblico veniva dipinto e percepito come infetto e pericoloso. L'intento di questo contributo è quello di ripercorrere la letteratura che ha analizzato tali risignificazioni proponendo per gli studi futuri un focus su come sia cambiato il lavoro domestico adottando uno sguardo di genere, e indagando come nuove significazioni spaziali possano aprire la strada a nuove tipologie di performance di genere.

La relación con la misericordia se ilumina también, descubriendo que ella mueve ante todo a obrar en el respeto de los derechos y a ir generosamente más allá en el amor pero sin ceder nunca a la injusticia. En este marco se indican cuatro desafíos actuales en los que está implicada la justicia intraeclesial: la conservación y difusión del Evangelio de la familia en la Iglesia y en el mundo; la promoción de la familia como iglesia doméstica; la existencia del matrimonio, fundamento de la familia; y la comunión eclesial de los fieles casados.
