The article puts forward a new hypothesis concerning the origin of the goddess of Ekron, mentioned in Ekron's royal dedicatory inscription from the early 7th century . Contrary to a widely held view, it is suggested that the origin of the Philistine Goddess of Ekron should not be sought in the Aegean world but rather in northern Syria.

A fresh and original translation from Sanskrit of the dashrajnya hymn (hymn 7.18 of Rig Veda) describing this defining battle between Aryan king Sudas and his Aryan as well as non-Aryan foes. The decisive battle led to the uprooting of many tribes from the Sapta Sindhu area.

Many existing beliefs are shown to be merely due to misunderstandings. Further, it is shown that the existing translations fall well short of the true meaning.
For example, no Matsya tribe was involved in this battle.

Au cours de nombreux siècles où le fait religieux a posé sa marque sur l’évolution de nombreuses sociétés, l’Islam, en tant que credo et pratique culturelle et sociale, a été mobilisé dans de différentes configurations politiques (A. Mohamed-Ali, 2015, 19) ; ceci étant aussi valable pour les espaces dans lesquels il se pratique notamment les mosquées. N’a-t-on pas souvent qualifié cette religion d’éminemment politique en s’appuyant sur le fait que la source de la divergence entre sunnites et chiites soit à l’origine politique ? Ce d’autant plus qu’elle concerne les candidats à une succession ? D’ailleurs, l’Islam, où la profession de foi par les fidèles est devenue très tôt la base de l’action et du comportement politique, a revêtu un caractère martial en acquérant de vastes territoires par la guerre (B. Lewis,1991, 68). Aujourd’hui encore et dans un contexte sécuritaire particulier post attentats du 11 septembre 2001, cette religion fait l’objet de nombreuses attaques et ceci ne va pas sans susciter des inquiétudes quant au discours qui est tenu dans les mosquées. Cette fébrilité injustifiée prend une connotation spéciale dans les États de l’Afrique centrale, soumis aux luttes politiques et autres querelles de leadership dans des contextes de transition incertaine. Par conséquent, les divergences régionales sont instrumentalisées sous fond d’appartenance religieuse. Ainsi, les mosquées, espaces de culte et lieux de socialisation, deviennent des cibles d’attaques terroristes. Cette situation est particulièrement visible au Nigeria, au Tchad, au Nord Cameroun et en RCA. Comment comprendre cet état de fait ? Les leaders religieux auraient-ils failli à leur devoir de neutralité vis-à-vis des acteurs politiques ou ces derniers seraient-ils devenus acteurs ou agents instrumentalisés d’une situation que beaucoup pensent téléguidée de l’extérieur ? [1] Les appels au calme lancés par les Imams et leurs prises de position contre le terrorisme sont-ils interprétés comme des signes d’allégeance vis-à-vis des « infidèles » ? Ainsi, nous comptons dans cette contribution, présenter d’abord le rôle de la mosquée comme espace de socialisation, ensuite examiner les différents enjeux politiques qu’elle représente désormais et enfin décrypter les enjeux de cette politisation.

On February 19, 2017, Dr. Paul Wolff would have turned 130 years old. Wolff was known worldwide especially for his pictures and books from the 1930s and 1940s. His posi- tion as one of the most successful photographers of the so called Third Reich has repeatedly been the subject of heat- ed debate due to the general politicization of that period.
A recently discovered portfolio from around 1933/34 repre- sents a significant new source, which testifies not only to the photographer’s multifaceted pictorial repertoire but also to his strategic self-promotion. It will be shown that Wolff selectively used stylistic ambivalences to reach as broad a market as possible, while at the same time demonstrating
a clear political affinity. The portfolio exemplifies Wolff’s marketing strategies, which also generally reflect the aspects of modern design. The example of Dr. Paul Wolff shows that photography was an important component of National Socialist cultural politics, but also that this topic is still underestimated by researchers.

Dopo la caduta del muro di Berlino nel 1989, in Italia, in
maniera strisciante, si venne a formare una classe politica
protesa verso la difesa di una “casta” dai valori morali
decadenti. Nonostante alcuni tentativi democratici di
ristabilire l’ordine e la disciplina, col passare degli anni
verso il 2030 si venne a stabilire nella Penisola un ordinamento
politico assai discutibile. La privatizzazione dei
servizi pubblici (acqua, elettricità, sanità, trasporti, previdenza
sociale, istruzione, sicurezza) e la crescita interna
del malcontento portò la Repubblica alla soglia di una
guerra civile, che vide il formarsi di forze di regime contrapposte
a delle vere e proprie formazioni paramilitari,
che presero il nome di Corporazioni.
La presente simulazione militare prende spunto da quegli
avvenimenti per creare un boardgame che soltanto a
prima vista sembra ricreare avvenimenti ucronici, anacronistici
e di fantasia.

This has been a mosaic analysis on an important chunk of American and native American History. This story has been told a hundred and thousand times from a hundred and thousand perspectives, but never from this view. It is not ironic, that the story of America begins with the dream of India. In the Mahabharata, the Hindu’s epic poem of creation, which may be comparable to the mythological literature coopted by religious orders from all over the world, both structurally and thematically. Arjuna, the great warrior, had just returned from a gladiator match and shouted in excitement to inform his mother, Kunti, that he had won something so precious. Kunti, in her wisdom, surmised that since Arjuna had gone with his brothers, the Pandavas, said in her authoritative mode that "Whatever it is, share among all 5 of you". ‘Mother, but I have won my bride’, said Arjuna; her name is Draupadi. Kunti, who wouldn’t go back on her words, said:“You must share her with your brothers.”

La storia di una città passa anche attraverso la storia delle Sue Istituzioni, pubbliche e private, e di quanti si sono succeduti alla sua guida.
È questa la valenza del mio studio che Vi invito a leggere.
Il volume descrive le tre massime Compagnie, nate intorno a1 1500, e nella fattispecie le Compagnie della Carità, della Pace e dei Bianchi, alcune talora vigenti, e con tale descrizione, il lettore, si troverà proiettato all’interno della Palermo antica, quindi della storia di Palermo e la nostra storia.
Dalla lettura dello studio, sono riproposti i motivi della loro fondazione, gli scopi, l’utilità pubblica dell’Istituzione stessa, si pensi alla Compagnia della Pace, quella che io definisco, naturalmente,
l’antenata della moderna struttura del Giudice di Pace ma con purtroppo le storture dei tempi moderni; nella narrazione si evidenziano e si delineano i poteri e le forze in campo sul territorio, un territorio in cui si affiancano e si sovrappongono la vita istituzionale e la vita dei cittadini in centinaia e centinaia di anni.
Dalla documentazione raccolta emerge, chiaramente articolata, una mappa di amministratori, ufficiali, funzionari, sicura espressione dello spazio politico e sociale della città, che permette, quindi, di definire l’ampio perimetro dell’area del potere cittadino, ed in fondo, della vita stessa della città, una città ricca di storia e di cultura, interessante, intrigante, misteriosa malgrado sia illuminata da un sole spesso accecante. 
Palermo e una città sempre tesa, nel rispetto e nel riconoscimento della propria storia, ad affermare la giusta identità, talvolta ottusamente offuscata e confusa.
Vi lascio, con queste poche parole, alla lettura di questo libro che non può e non deve mancare nella libreria di una persona colta che ha a cuore la storia della Sua città e non solo.

Neben den auf sich genommenen Kämpfen gegen die Kumanen wandte sich die Aufmerksamkeit des Deutschen Ordens in den ersten Jahrzehnten des 13. Jahrhunderts in erster Linie der Levanteregion zu. In diese Konzeption fügte sich auch die Frage der Besitztümer im Burzenland, und es ist auch kein Zufall, daß der Hochmeister Hermann von Salza gleich
nach seinem Amtsantritt (1209) die Besitzungen des Deutschen Ordens an den Anmarschwegen der Kreuzzüge nacheinander besichtigte, und im Zuge dessen, im April 1212 der Orden auch weitere Schenkungen erhielt von Leon II., König von Kilikien, der als Halbbruder (confrater) selbst in den Deutschen Orden eintrat.4 In dem zweiten Jahrzehnt des 13. Jahrhunderts hat der Orden mit einer planmäßigen Besitzerweiterung im Heiligen Land angefangen.

Este ensayo realiza una lectura heterotópica de Aguirre, La ira de Dios, una disección del filme bajo el concepto de heterotopía, desarrollado por Michel Foucault en su ensayo ”Of Other Spaces”. Foucault señala que la heterotopía es “Una especie de contestación simultánea, mítica y real del espacio..(24)”. Este concepto a través de algunos principios, logra subvertir el binarismo tiempo/espacio, permitiéndonos observar un plano más amplio de la Historia,  en el cual se rescata el protagonismo de la Naturaleza.

Este artículo analiza las representaciones sociales y los marcos de memoria en el Parque Histórico Guayaquil. Los recorridos del parque temático son confrontados con registros provenientes de la investigación histórica y de la narrativa social, con el objeto de iluminar la manera en que se reproducen los imaginarios sociales y culturales sobre la modernización de la ciudad y el rol de las élites económicas y los sectores campesinos en dicho proceso.  Palabras clave: Historia cultural, patrimonio histórico, parque temático, Guayaquil, políticas culturales, memoria social, Neoliberalismo, élites locales.

Öz Bu çalışma, Türk dış politikasının önemli konularından biri olan göç meselesine, 1950'li yılların koşulları içinde ve Yugoslavya'dan Türkiye'ye gelen göçmenler üzerinden bakmaktadır. Kuramsal bir çerçeve ve tarihsel arka planın verilmesinin ardından, Eski Yugoslavya'ya bağlı Makedonya Cumhuriyeti'nin Üsküp kenti ve bu kentin Köprülü/Titoveles ilçesi bu çalışmanın merkez noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Bu ilçenin Grono Vranofça köyünden 1955 yılında Türkiye'ye göç eden Şimşek ailesi ve diğer Türk ve Müslüman göçmenlerin tecrübeleri bu çerçevede incelenmiş, konuyla ilgili literatür ve dönem arşivi taranmıştır. İleride daha geniş bir araştırmaya başlangıç olması niyetiyle yapılan bu çalışmanın, Türkiye'ye dışarıdan gelmiş göçmenlerin hayatına dair bilgilerin netleşmesi ve mevcut veya gelecekteki göçmen nüfus sorunlarının daha iyi algılanması ve çözülmesine katkıda bulunmak hedefi olacaktır. Abstract This paper, examines the issue of migration, one of the important matters of Turkish foreign policy, within the settings of 1950s and over immigrants that came from Former Yugoslavia to Turkey. After giving a theoretical framework and a historical background, city of Skopje, of Macedonian Republic of Former Yugoslavia, and its subdistrict Köprülü/Titoveles constitutes the central point of this paper. Şimşek family, that migrated to Turkey in 1955, and all other Turkish and Muslim immigrants of Grono Vranofça village of this subdistrict have been examined within this frame, and also related literature and archival sources have also been examined. This work, that aims at the beginning of a broader research, hopes to contibute for a clearer information of details of lives of migrants who came from outside of Turkey, and also better understanding and solution of problems of current and potential immigrant populations.

Presented paper is based on the Mykhaylo Demkovych-Dobriansky personal archive and it deals with his articles and radio programs devoted to cultural situation in the Soviet Ukraine (1950s-1980s). It focuses on his biography and intellectual heritage. M. Demkovych-Dobriansky was an author of hundreds radio programs on Radio Liberty and dozens of publications in different Ukrainian diaspora periodicals. His writings were dedicated to: Ukrainian-Russian relations (especially huge influence of Ukrainian scholars on Russian history), problems of Ukrainian culture in the Soviet Union (russification, lack of dictionaries and audio types with Ukrainian songs etc.), role of Ukrainian dissidents in the USSR (series of programs devoted to V. Chornovil, I. Dziuba etc.) etc.

This book analyses how authoritarian rulers of Southeast Asian countries maintain their durability in office, and, in this context, explains why some movements of civil society organizations succeed while others fail to achieve their demands. It discusses the relationship between the state-society-business in the political survival context. As the first comparative analysis of strategies of regime survival across Southeast Asia, this book also provides an in-depth insight into the various opposition movements, and the behaviour of antagonistic civic and political actors in the region.
