Em Março de 1921, José de Almada Negreiros pronunciou a conferência A Invenção do Dia Claro, publicada, nesse mesmo ano, em Dezembro, pela empresa Olisipo ("Agentes, Organizadores e Editores"), para a qual o próprio Almada desenhou o logótipo. Entre os projectos da Olisipo (1921-1923), interessa aqui mencionar a publicaçáo de obras notáveis da literatura mundial que seriam traduzidas para português, tal como as peças dramáticas de Shakespeare, por exemplo, ou para inglês, tal como A Invenção do Dia Claro de Almada. [...] No caso de A Invenção do Dia Claro, que Pessoa editou e começou a traduzir com o título The Invention of the Bright Day, o tradutor seria o próprio pessoa. A conferência, prevista para o segundo semestre de 1920, após o regresso a Lisboa de Almada Negreiros, vindo de paris, só foi proferida a 3 de Março de 1921, isto é, quase um ano depois de realizada uma exposição com o mesmo nome (A Invenção do Dia Claro) no Salão Nobre do Teatro S. Carlos.

In the context of a contract excavation done at Casa do Governador da Torre de Belém, Lisbon, a large Roman fish processing factory was found. The site’s relevance originated a multidisciplinary research project funded by FCT (the Portuguese national agency for research)
aiming to study the archaeological site in the context of Tagus’ estuary economy in Roman times, but also in the wider context of the Atlantic foodstuffs production and diffusion.
Besides the site’s archaeological study (building phases, transformations and abandonment) we aim to know the nature of the product made (by the archaeozoological study of the processing remains) and also the insertion of the factory within the Tagus estuary’s economy, by the archaeometric study of the local amphorae used to transport the final product.
The paper presents the actual research achievements, such as the issues related with the occupation phases and chronology, as usual in these sites we have an overrepresentation of the latter phases and less information about the ancient ones, that’s why we essay some dating
methods on mortar samples and sediments by OSL. The archaeozoological research begins with ictiofaunal and malacofaunal remains aiming to understand the nature of the products processed at the factory. It is clear that in Late Antiquity a fish condiment based on sardine was made and all the malacofaunal remains suggest a small recollection activity perhaps just related to the local workers consumption. No signs were found for any other complementary
dyeing activity related to the factory. The archaeometric study of local amphorae found at the factory and presumably related to the transport of the fish condiments produced there, allows the conclusion that they came from several of the already known potteries from the
lower Tagus but it was possible to identify a new unknown pottery centre.
Future research will deal with the archaeometric study of common ware and the analysis of the local, regional and global insertion of Tagus estuary’s fish condiment production within the Roman Empire.

Apresenta-se uma breve síntese sobre o actual conhecimento
da cidade romana de Felicitas Iulia Olisipo, explicando
como foi, primeiro, conhecida de um ponto de vista literário
e através das inscrições gravadas em pedra, depois, revelada pela
reconstrução que se seguiu ao grande terramoto de 1755 e, finalmente, hoje em dia, cada vez mais revelada pelas intervenções
arqueológicas no tecido urbano, decorrentes da reabilitação e reconversão do edificado.
Sabemos agora que, apesar da sua localização periférica, nos confins
do mundo conhecido, a grande cidade portuária romana explorava
os recursos marinhos que a riqueza piscícola do Atlântico lhe proporcionava, exportava os seus preparados de peixe, tirava partido
da riqueza aurífera do Tejo e dos recursos agrícolas possibilitados
pelos bons solos da região.

On this study we strengthen the hypothesis of the Lizandro and the Colares rivers have been navigated during the Roman Period and their potential usage as a way of draining the rural production of the region, while the villages in the area were involved in a trade network that was part of the hinterland that supplied Olisipo.

O conjunto de terra sigillata de tipo itálico da Praça da Figueira é constituído
por vasos lisos e decorados, alguns ostentando marca de oleiro. Neste conjunto, que
abrange uma grande variedade formal, estão representados os principais centros
produtores itálicos, bem como os oleiros que mais preponderância tiveram no ocidente
do Império, e dos quais se destaca Publius Cornelius.
Da sua análise conclui-se que os primeiros produtos em cerâmica fina de origem
itálica começam a chegar a Olisipo ainda no século I a.C., altura a partir da qual a
cidade terá constituído um mercado complexo no Ocidente do mundo romano. Para
confirmar a importância da cidade, é numa altura em que o fluxo de importação de
vasos itálicos já se encontrava em quebra, a partir de Tibério, que Olisipo passa a
desempenhar um papel preponderante na redistribuição deste tipo de produtos, quer por
via marítima, quer por via terrestre, evidenciando uma similaridade de dados com
diferentes locais do nosso território.

The Italian terra sigillata found at Praça da Figueira, Lisbon, includes both plain and
decorated vessels, some of which present potter’s stamps. It comprehends a great formal variety,
where the main Italian production centers are represented, as well as the most preponderant
potters in the western part of the Roman Empire, featuring Publius Cornelius.
From this study we can conclude that the first Italian products of fine wear started to
arrive at Olisipo still in the first century B.C., from when the city will constitute a complex
market in the western part of the Roman world. To confirm this importance, Olisipo will play an
important role in what concerns the redistribution of this kind of products, by sea or by land,
when the import rates start to break, by the time of the emperor Tiberius. This shows a
similarity of results among the different places in the Portuguese territory.

Some recent finds, among which the Arronches inscription stands out, as well as new reading proposals for some votive inscriptions, 196 AMÍLCAR GUERRA, SARA REIS Y SÍLVIA TEIXEIRA O SUL DA LUSITÂNIA ROMANA: CONTRIBUTO PARA UMA SOCIOLOGIA DAS RELIGIÕES © Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca Stud. hist., H.a antig., 33, 2015, pp. 195-222 provide the ground for the analysis of the documentation regarding the religion of the southern Lusitania in Roman times. This is an unequable reality, of which three segments are analyzed: the Olisipo territory, the northern Alentejo and the extreme South of the Roman province. Through the record of the theonyms and information concerning the worshippers, we intend to outline a summary profile for each region, therefore obtaining a short essay on the sociology of religions in the Roman period.

This project is, first and foremost, an opportunity to conduct an in-depth review of the entire corpus of epigraphic materials relating to deities and cults in roman Lisbon. The main objective consisted in reviewing a wide range of documentation classified as Latin votive epigraphy. This task resulted in an exhaustive inventory of the theonymic forms that have a solidy established credibility, in order to develop an updated sociological study. The epigraphic sources used are confined to a set of about 65 pieces, essentialy focused in the Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and Torres Vedras areas.
In a reviewing perspective of the vast historiographic production made in the last century, it´s intended to understand on one hand, in wich way the cultural interactions were established between the urban and the rural world, wich led to different religious postures; and on the other hand, to explor the dicothomy between roman deities and Hispanic deities, two completely distinct cultural worlds. In this context, it’s intended to identify and distinguish the official cults of the private ones, in an attempt to discover to wich point the public/private and city/country dicothomies reflected and influenced the sacred.
Another important aspect in this analisys consisted on the dispersion of each cult in the city, allowing to understand wich deities were worshiped in urban, rural or both environments, with public ou private nature, and also the social profile of its worshipers.
In addiction, is presented a general introduction to the most important aspects from the imperial cult, with particular attention to their chronology and the direction that followed their implementation. In this context, stands out the question of the relationship between the devotio iberica and the origins of the imperial cult; the achieve of their civic range; their ritual content; and their dynamical key-agents, including in this chapter the characteristics of each priesthood (geographical distribution, chronology, election criteria, etc.); the developments that experienced the cult object (witnessed through the titles of priests); and the social profile of the elected individuals (belonging to elites who always seek for social promotion). It´s also intended to clarify the distinction between the posts of Augustalis, Seuir Augustalis e Sevir since it appears that, hidden behind a wide variety of titles, concealed only a single institution.
During the preparation of this dissertation was also taken into account the identification of new findings, jointly presented with a wide range of new reading proposals.

O espaço da antiga Alcáçova Islâmica do Castelo de Lisboa tem fornecido dados de extrema importância
para o conhecimento dos momentos mais recuados da presença romana no Vale do Tejo. Nesse
âmbito, têm‑se
destacado os estudos sobre os contentores anfóricos. Neste artigo apresenta‑se
a análise
das ânforas romanas provenientes de duas intervenções arqueológicas realizadas naquela área da cidade:
o Largo de Santa Cruz do Castelo e o Pátio José Pedreira. Com o estudo destes dois conjuntos anfóricos,
procura‑se
reajustar e afinar o perfil de importação e consumo de géneros alimentares transportados em
ânforas estabelecido para o alto do Morro do Castelo. Os dados destas amostras aportam algumas novidades
importantes, de que se destaca a documentação da importação de vinho proveniente do Mediterrâneo
oriental.

RESUMO Na sequência da reconstrução da cidade de Lisboa depois do grande terremoto de 1755, foi identificado em 1771 um edifício termal público de época romana, usualmente conhecido como Thermae Cassiorum, por uma inscrição ali encontrada, no sítio das Pedras Negras, local onde se ergueu o Palácio do Correio Mor do Reino. No interior do arruinado edifício foi encontrada uma estátua couraçada em mármore branco de excelente qualidade, da qual existem três descrições, realizadas por diferentes informadores, Thomaz Caetano de Bem, Caetano Joze Mendes e Manuel Rodrigues Maia. Compilando a informação existente é possível supor tratar-se de uma estátua de Mars Ultor, seguindo o modelo dos Museus Capitolinos de Roma: estátua couraçada em tamanho natural, cabeça barbada com elmo ornado, segurando no braço esquerdo um escudo e com caligae nos pés. Os informadores dizem que a estátua foi guardada na Sala do Risco, o que significa ter recebido à época o devido cuidado e atenção. Contudo, não se conhece o seu paradeiro, nem nenhum desenho da mesma. As razões do seu "desaparecimento" poderão ser: ter dado entrada em alguma colecção privada onde ainda se conservará (a menos provável), ter sido levada pelas tropas francesas ou inglesas, no decurso da Guerra Peninsular. A busca do seu paradeiro tem de continuar. During the reconstruction of Lisbon, after the 1755 great earthquake, a Roman public bath house was found in 1771, usually known as Thermae Cassiorum from an inscription found there, at the Pedras Negras area, where the new Palace of Royal Post was build.
Inside the ruined bath house was found a thoracata statue in excellent white marble, about which we have three different sources, Thomas Caetano de Bem, Caetano Joze Mendes and Manuel Rodrigues Maia. Compiling all information it is plausible to suppose that the statue depicts Mars Ultor, after the Capitoline’s Museums model from Rome: thoracata statue in regular size, beard head with crested ornamented helmet, holding a shield in the left arm and with caligae wearing its feet. All informers said the statue was kept at Sala do Risco, which means it was careful kept after the recovering. Unfortunately we know nothing about its actual location and neither a single drawing of the statue is known.
The explanations for the strange vanishing of the statue may be: the statue is closed in some private collection (less probable); being spoiled by French or British troops at the end of the Peninsular War. The quest for this vanishing statue must go on.

With the fall of the Western Roman Empire there was a commercial brake among the Atlantic Roman provinces and the Mediterranean. This strong set back was a main factor for a less demand that gave way to the decay or even ending of the traditional productions that were most of the times, a proper way of payment.
Most of potteries along the Tagus River, with their productions aiming to fulfil the demands of Olisipo market, and as well as, from the ager, knew a slow closing up due to lack of demand, the impoverishment of the late Roman populations, and later on with the attacks by the peoples such as the Sueves, Vandals (Hasdings) and Visigoths in the 5th century AD.
So, accordingly with the archaeological excavations that took place between 1977 and 2003, in the municipality of Cascais, we obtain testimonies that confirmed these changes of mentality promoting at same time a new specific main role to the ceramics.
In the late Roman archaeological sites such as: Alto do Cidreira, Vilares, Caparide, Casal do Clérigo, Freiria, Espigão das Ruivas e Miroiços, the assets of domestic table ceramics and containers show all these changes with very specific models that marked the end of the Roman Empire up to the first years of the Moorish presence.

Algunos de los hallazgos más recientes, entre los que destaca
la inscripción de Arronches, junto con nuevas propuestas de lectura de algunos epígrafes votivos, sirven de pretexto a análises de la documentación relativa a la religión de la parte meridional de Lusitania en el período romano. Es una realidad dispar, de la que aquí se tratarán tres segmentos: el territorio olisiponense, el norte de Alentejo y el extremo sur de la provincia romana. Empezando por el registro teonímico y la información a respeto de los cultuantes, se intentará definir un perfil sumario de cada una de estas regiones, así constituyendo un pequeño ensayo sobre una sociología de las religiones en el período romano.

Entre 1999 e 2001, a construção de um parque de estacionamento subterrâneo na Praça da Figueira (Lisboa) obrigou a uma intervenção arqueológica que colocou a descoberto uma necrópole romana - Necrópole Noroeste de Olisipo.
Dezasseis anos depois, no âmbito de um estudo transdisciplinar, são analisados os conteúdos gráficos e fotográficos, as estruturas funerárias e o espólio arqueológico e osteológico humano, sendo que foi necessário proceder à escavação em laboratório de sepulturas exumadas em bloco durante a escavação. Num total de 65 indivíduos inumados, cerca de metade são não-adultos.
Reúnem-se agora dados inéditos que permitem interpretar as transformações deste espaço enquanto contexto funerário e reconstruir gestos, práticas e rituais funerários.
Neste sentido, apresenta-se o enquadramento científico deste espaço considerando o panorama de um centro urbano como Olisipo e atendendo às características relacionadas com a organização do espaço funerário, a grande diversidade tipológica das inumações , o espólio associado e o perfil biológico dos indivíduos.

The need to define chronologies for the Roman Circus of Olisipo (Rossio,
Lisboa) stimulated the study of the terra sigillata recovered between 1994-1997 by a team
from IPPAR in collaboration with the Museu da Cidade. This article presents the results
of our analyses.

RESUMO

Nos seus 47 anos de vida, o poeta Fernando Pessoa construiu uma obra literária vastíssima, multiforme e plural. Inventou heterónimos, criou personalidades literárias, dirigiu revistas literárias e editoras, interveio na vida pública e tentou, por todos os meios que a sua fervilhante imaginação lhe permitia, ganhar dinheiro para poder dedicar-se inteiramente à sua obra literária. Do espólio depositado na Biblioteca Nacional de Lisboa saem documentos que ilustram tanto a sua vasta atividade como tradutor e correspondente comercial em inglês e francês, quanto um punhado de textos que documentam a sua incessante tentativa para se tornar empresário-de tipografias, de editoras, de jornais e revistas, de mediador de concessões mineiras, de publicitário, de venda de propriedades nas colónias. Tendo falhado em todas as iniciativas que levou à prática, Fernando Pessoa foi um gigantesco empresário "virtual", chegando mesmo a conceber autênticos grupos empresariais que cobrissem diversas atividades económicas, da produção industrial à exportação e à promoção externa dos produtos portugueses. E de tudo deixou testemunho escrito, porque nele tudo era matéria de escrita.

ABSTRACT

In his 47 years of life, the poet Fernando Pessoa built a vast, multiform and plural literary work. He invented heteronyms, created literary characters, directed literary magazines and publishing houses, intervened in public life and tried, by all the means his fervent imagination allowed him, to make money so he could dedicate himself entirely to his literary work. From the literary estate deposited at the National Library of Portugal come documents that illustrate not only his vast activity as a translator and commercial correspondent in English and French but also a handful of texts that document his incessant attempt to become a businessman-from typographies, to publishing houses, to newspapers and magazines, to mediator for mining concessions, to advertising, to the sale of properties in the colonies. Having failed all the initiatives he embarked on, Fernando Pessoa was a gigantic "virtual" businessman, even conceiving authentic business groups that covered several economic activities, from industrial production to exporting and external promotion of Portuguese products. He left written testimony of everything because everything in him was a matter of writing.

Ilurbeda é uma divindade cultuada em época romana sobretudo no espaço nordeste da província da Lusitania. A análise que tem vindo a ser feita pelos investigadores com o objectivo de estabelecer as suas características e funções descarta, por vezes, uma ara de Sintra a si dedicada, devido à forte erosão da inscrição e à distância geográfica dos demais testemunhos epigráficos em que surge o teónimo. O presente trabalho retoma a ara sintrense, apresentando uma proposta de leitura da epígrafe e ulteriores considerações quanto à natureza desta divindade e à família revelada na onomástica pessoal da inscrição.

Ilurbeda is a deity worshipped mainly in the northeast of the province of Lusitania in the roman age. Investigators concerned with the determination of this deity’s functions and characteristics sometimes overlook an altar from Sintra, Portugal, due to the strong erosion of the inscription and the geographical distance from the remaining respective epigraphy. The present study reassesses the altar from Sintra and presents a full reading of the epigraph, proceeding to consider the nature of the divinity and the family revealed in this new reading.

Il y a des annees que l'on identifie l'epoux d'une flaminica de Lusitanie appelee Seruilia Lucii filia, avec Albinus Albui filius, flamen de Lusitanie sous Claude. L'auteur ecarte ce rapport matrimonial parce que'il est sur qu'en 48 les flaminicae prouinciae n'etaient pas encore elues en Lusitanie. Elle propose que Seruilia Lucii filia serait epouse de Lucceius Albinus, prestigieux avocat ami de Pline le Jeune, et que Lucceia Quinti filia Albina, honoree avec la flaminica a Olisipo (CIL II 195), serait la fille du couple ou la soeur de l'avocat.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal estudiar las dinámicas de inmigración y emigración existentes en el municipio lusitano de Olisipo Felicitas Iulia, la actual ciudad de Lisboa. La base fundamental del estudio está constituida por la documentación epigráfica relacionada con dicho municipio.

O repertório formal de monumentos funerários romanos em pedra existentes no espaço correspondente ao município da Lisboa romana inclui a cupa, a estela de topo arredondado, o cipo prismático, o monumento funerário em forma de ara, e outros. Estes monumentos, de cronologia centrada maioritariamente nos séculos I e II d. C. mas cuja origem estará ligada aos imigrantes itálicos que aqui se fixaram com o início do Império Romano, são sucintamente analisados no presente texto, com o objectivo de oferecer uma visão tipológica geral.

In the space of the territory of Roman Lisbon there is a number of different types of funerary monuments made of stone, including the cupa, the round-topped stela, the rectangular composite cippus, the altar-shaped funerary monument, and others. Their main chronology is the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, but their origin is certainly connected to immigrants from the Italian Peninsula who settled in the area from the beginning of the Imperial age. The present text intends to offer a general typological perspective of these monuments.

Discutem-se critérios passíveis de ajuizar se determinada atitude do Homem consubstancia um culto ao Divino e se é possível determinar ser essa uma atitude pública ou de mera devoção privada. Na actualidade e nos tempos romanos.
No que concerne ao ager Olisiponensis, as manifestações religiosas romanas privilegiaram as divindades indígenas. No espaço urbano, o culto público dirige-se às divindades ditas «clássicas» e implica, geralmente, uma solene actuação sacerdotal.
Uma referência, por último, ao culto dos mortos e seu significado profundo.

It’s very difficult to understand exactly – today and at the Roman time – if a religious manifestation is public or, mostly, due to a private reason.
In the Roman ager Olisiponensis, the indigenous deities were venerated. At the urban site, the sacerdotal intervention shows us – according to the epigraphic evidences – that is almost a public-political finality behind the religious practices.

The monetary registry of several rural archaeological sites (7) located in the territorium of the ancient city of Olisipo (Lisbon, Portugal), his has helped us to know the uses and forms of the Roman currency in a rural space influenced by communication routes and the most important port in the Lusitania province. We have carried out a currency circulation study where we have also included other interesting data such as the consumption of import ceramics and / or the demand for architectural and decorative services.
