Zwei arabische Filme haben dieses Jahr eine Oscar-Nominierung erhalten: Nadine Labakis Spielfilm Capernaum – Stadt der Hoffnung (Cafarnahum, LB/FR 2018, 120‘), der den Regularien der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gemäß vom libanesischen Kulturministerium ins Rennen für den besten nicht-englischsprachigen Film geschickt wurde, und der Dokumentarfilm Of Fathers and Sons – Die Kinder des Kalifats (an al-Abua wa al-Abna, D/SYR/LB/QA 2017, 99 min) des in Berlin lebenden syrischen Regisseurs Talal Derki. Für nichtfiktionale Filme gelten andere Einreichbedingungen, eine Regierung war an Derkis Bewerbung um den Oscar nicht involviert . Beide Filme sind international gefeiert und mit Preisen überschüttet. Labaki bekam bei der Welturaufführung in Cannes im Mai 2018 minutenlang stehende Ovationen und später den begehrten Preis der Jury. Mehr als zwanzig internationale Auszeichnungen folgten. Derkis Film wurde im November 2017 beim renommierten Dokumentarfilmfestival IDFA in Amsterdam uraufgeführt und hat bis dato mehr als dreißig internationale Trophäen eingeholt. Nur selten schaffen es arabische Filme zu einer Oscar-Nominierung, dieses Jahr gleich zwei. Auch wenn sie den Oscar letztendlich nicht nach Hause holen konnten fragt sich: Was haben sie, was andere nicht haben? Was braucht es für arabische Geschichten, um so beehrt zu werden?

Todos os anos o prêmio Oscar, outorgado pela Academia de Artes e Ciências de Hollywood, premia pessoas ligadas à área do cinema. A pesquisa apresentada parte do pressuposto de Ewald Filho (2003) no que diz respeito às indicações na categoria de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante em que as indicações geralmente são baseadas nas campanhas publicitárias, haja vista que muitas atrizes principais foram indicadas nessa categoria por haver mais chances de saírem vitoriosas. A partir disso partiu-se para uma análise das características das personagens vencedoras nos anos de 2001 a 2011, com base nos conceitos de construção de personagem propostos por Field (2001), Mckee (2006) e Seger (2007). Se trata de uma pesquisa exploratória documental. Em relação à forma de abordagem do problema apresenta informações qualitativas e quantitativas. O resultado revela que nos últimos anos, a categoria estudada não possuiu influência das campanhas publicitárias, premiando de forma justa as atrizes coadjuvantes dos filmes analisados.

In this article the manner of representing the “Other” in 10 animations which succeeded in winning Oscar award during 2005 to 2014 is studied using Barth’s three levels semiotic method. The ideological significations of these animations are also studied. In this research, the way of representing race and gender of "other" are two main components. The result of the research indicate that the racist approach towards the other has changed in animations which are under study. Moreover, there has been a clear change in representing women in these animations. It can be said as a general conclusion that another representation in recent Oscar winning animations is the fact that there is not people’s race and gender which determines their otherness. Instead it is their thoughts, beliefs and actions which determine who is the “Other”. A representation of the other as the one who is against change, does not tolerate differences, is dedicated to traditions and hurts the environment is among the results of this study.

ABSTRAK Kehadiran Academy Award atau Oscar melahirkan tolok ukur yang tinggi dalam bidang perfilman jagat raya. Para sineas sibuk memutar otak untuk menghasilkan film dengan kualitas yang berkelas. Walhasil persaingan dalam industri perfilman sangatlah sengit. Kontroversi Livi Zheng yang turut menyeret nama besar Oscar cukup mengambil banyak atensi masyarakat Indonesia. Kesadaran yang rendah media massa untuk melakukan pengecekan fakta menyebab misintepretasi di berbagai kalangan, ditambah dengan cara Livi dalam beretorika yang semakin mematik amarah kalangan sineas Indonesia. Livi dinilai lengah dalam menyampaikan sebuah informasi karena tidak memilih diksi yang tepat sehingga menimbulkan misintepretasi pesan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah literatur review dan analisis isi media online. Dalam makalah ini akan dibahas mengapa retorika sangat perlu untuk diperhatikan dalam berkomunikasi di ruang publik. Kata kunci : Livi Zheng, retorika, film, Oscar A. Pendahuluan 1.1 Latar Belakang Film adalah media komunikasi yang bersifat audio visual untuk menyampaikan suatu pesan kepada sekelompok orang yang berkumpul di suatu tempat tertentu. (Effendy, 1986: 134). Setiap film memiliki misi untuk menyampai pesan kepada audiens. Pesan yang disampaikan bisa bersifat edukatif, informatif, dan menghibur. Pesan dalam film adalah menggunakan mekanisme lambang-lambang yang ada pada pikiran manusia berupa isi pesan, suara, perkataan, percakapan dan sebagainya (Nugroho, 2013). Secara umum film memang menyasar audiens dengan jumlah yang banyak, sehingga film dinilai efektif untuk dijadikan media komunikasi massa karena bersifat audio visual. Dengan ini film mampu mengajak audiens untuk melihat begitu banyak cerita dengan waktu yang singkat.

L’intervento intende analizzare la fisionomia paratestuale che caratterizza la serie monografica dedicata a Calvino presso gli Oscar Mondadori negli anni della prima edizione. A differenza della prassi editoriale maggioritaria della collana – che accompagna i testi letterari con scritti critici di voci terze – le Opere di IC vengono presentate da peritesti d’autore, riservando alla voce di Calvino ogni spazio intorno ai suoi testi. Si tratta di un caso eccezionale che non ha riscontri in nessun’altra compagine degli Oscar e che riflette la strategia di Mondadori di proporre a un pubblico generalista la figura di un autore «classico» che si presenta da sé. L’ottica teorica del lavoro si basa su Soglie di Gérard Genette e L’ordine dei libri di Roger Chartier, in cui illustrano come lo stato editoriale concorra a influenzare la ricezione del testo da parte dei lettori.
