The imperialist Europeans considered the existing style of life uncivilized, backward and savage and the people less intelligent. This book is a comparative analysis of Afrikan people’s jurisprudence, with a special focus on Luo people of Kenya, taking an analytical look at the theories of law and justice; the institutions of making the law, implementing the law and solving disputes; and the procedures of making the law, implementing the law, and solving disputes.
A good social enterprise actually contains all three of these components. The really successful ones have all three, but really understand which is their priority.

The paper analysis the effectiveness of environmental policies, institutions and laws in Uganda in the protection of the environment from the oil and gas exploration and production pollution. The paper looks through the oil exploration and production, status and process, environmental concerns, and the case study of Nigeria. The paper then scrutinizes the legal framework, comparing with international legal regime, and finally the recommendations centered on sustainable environmental best practices. The paper also reviews secondary documents, including articles, books, and opinion pieces, on the topic of discussion. The paper finds that the legal, policy and institutional framework is insufficient to promote protection of environment due to several factors, including lack of a tribunal to oversee special cases of oil and gas effects on environment, the law levels of knowledge amongst local communities to respond to abuse of environment, and the lack of clear recourse policy. Positively, the paper also finds the presence of decommissioning fund, which shall be utilized to restore the environment after decommissioning. The paper finds further that enforcement is weak due to the under facilitation of the environmental sector. The paper recommends implementation of other environmental protection practices, namely, environmental management systems (EMS); environmental performance evaluation (EPE); environmental monitoring and auditing; and environmental reporting, in addition to the traditional environmental impact assessment (EIA). Finally, the paper proposes establishment of specific oil and gas environmental tribunal, as well as proactive involvement in protection of plant and animal species from the dangers of oil exploration.

The article examines the legal, institutional and policy framework regulating relationship between business corporations and indigenous peoples in the mining sector in Uganda. The article analyses of the international legal regime, national laws, policies and institutions, and the practice of local mining companies. The article also reviewed documents, articles journals, and articles, and analyzed the results. The article finds that the constitution provides for protection of indigenous peoples rights. In Uganda, the number of transnational corporations engaging in resource exploitation is rising they have to begin implementing standards of social responsibility within their projects. The government, however, does not have statutory promulgations, or institutions with the specific mandate for protecting indigenous peoples in the oil and gas producing areas. The article finds that international rules oblige the state to protect indigenous peoples against potential exploitation by corporations. Further, it is found that the scale and scope of resource exploration and exploitation of indigenous peoples’ lands and territories affects indigenous peoples and their communities. The article recommends that governments utilize international standards to guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples at a national level. The article concludes that, without prior mitigation measures, the worst in forms of human rights abuses to indigenous communities in Uganda’s oil and gas productions areas is likely to unfold.

Kakamega is under new leadership, but the Euphoria is soon drifting away, and the ways of the old taking over. Luckluster performance, public service mentality, and “them” versus “u” mentality, with us being broke, poor, and disenfranchised and them being favoured, rich, and growing. Under the theme of “Prosperity and Strength-Kakamega Vision 2030”, this document serves as official programmatic and propaganda document, to lead to the laying of foundation, creation of, and achievement of new Kakamega. The article is divided into three parts: The first part is imagination, seeing Kakamega as a great county, laying out what it means to be great, and bringing it to light, seeking to change mindsets and set a lofty, clear future, almost utopic idea, Kakamega, A First World County. Secondly, the document lists the actions, programs, and activities that must be put in place to realise the new Kakamega. And third, the document outlines the two fold strategy, of propaganda, and partnerships, that will be needed to move the county to its destination of the imagined feature.

The Government of Uganda has embraced youth entrepreneurship schemes. Specifically, the government introduced the Youth Venture Capital Fund in 2011/12 whose major objectives were: jobs creation, business expansion and business skills development. The fund offers fixed subsided interest loans and depends on both public funds as well as funds offered by commercial banks.
Our results indicate that participation in the youth fund program is positively and significantly influenced by the age cohort of the youth entrepreneur (the older youth aged 26-35 years are more likely to access the fund compared to the younger youth), location of the business (urban based businesses have a higher chance of accessing the fund), type of business enterprise (those in services are more likely to access the fund loan) and business maturity (those who have bene operational for more than three years were preferred to those new startups).
Research by Makerere University Economic and Policy Think Tank has found that the major role players are not entirely fulfilling their mandates and some have sidetracked from the initial procedures and criteria. Further, there is no significant evidence of the youth fund impact on jobs creation and business expansion- its intended objectives- after one year of implementation.
It is based on their proposal, that I also raise a proposal. The policy think tank argues that for the youth fund to have a lasting impact on its intended objectives, the promotion of youth entrepreneurship should be approached comprehensively (not only the credit component) and it should target productive sectors with high employment creation potential. However, they fall short of explaining what this “comprehensive” approach means. I argue that it means micro private equity program.

Retirement! The word conjures up wonderful visions of being on vacation all the time. Sleeping late. Taking trips. Finally having enough time to indulge in whatever hobby or interest catches our fancy.
Not everybody retires by choice. Sometimes some of us are forced to do so due to illness or physical problems that prevent them from continuing in their careers, or financial considerations such as layoffs. Sometimes these forced or early retirements result in a big financial burden.
But even if we do retire by choice, and even if we have enough money coming in to support ourselves, we could find that going from working a full-time job to having nowhere specific that we ‘have’ to be each day sounds fantastic but becomes boring and unproductive; the hours seeming endless after years of a structured schedule.
Whether I retire because I want to or because I have to, it is possible to make my retirement years happy and healthy – I just need to approach things a bit differently. In this book, I will learn how to prepare for retirement, using the 21 most frequently asked questions by retirees, and I will also learn the many things I can do in retirement to have truly HAPPY GOLDEN YEARS!

Brutus realized, albeit belatedly, that killing Caesar was not in anyone’s best interest, least of all, Rome’s.
There will always be families, well organised families that consolidate economic power, then load it over men, and give unto themselves titles, such as ‘chiefs, paramount chief, representatives of the tribe’; and these families, always, relegate themselves as ‘blue-blooded’, chosen of the gods, favored amongst men, kings over men, lords of the commons, prefects over natural resources, amongst other flowery and not less perfumed titles, which entrench their rule over the ‘commons’ and perpetuate their (immoral) empires, at the behest of their ‘fellow men’.
Once in a while, a people is awakened from this selective and self-induced amnesia to question the source of their plunder, and if they, by luck escape the wrath of the ‘sleeping’ bull-dog, they may, for a season, share their opinion on why they quench their thirst by the sweat of their brow, and drops of own blood, while their ‘god-appointed’ tribal rulers insanely amass riches to obnoxious bounds.
This is a book-product of such introspection, a question seeking answers; a riddle seeking solution; and an African story seeking completion.
As we read, may we grow (in knowledge and understanding), as tall as the blue gum tree at our uncle’s home!

The chaos and wars created by all religions all this time has led to the realization that religion, closely practiced as a sect, is dangerous to peace and progress.
The pillars of most religions are the same, and the goal is one…they all preach peace, harmony, development of self and recognition of the supernatural, the deity, the creator…
Hence it should be in order for me to practice any religion I want, however I want, so long as I am excused from the long term commitments which are a product of cultures of the sources of such religions.
It is now okay for me to go to church on Sunday, then on Friday go to mosque, and on Saturday go for seventh day Adventist ceremony, after all, they all worship god, whether divided into trinity, accepted as one, or served with angels and other gods.

This book is for me who wants to become rich through investing in financial instruments and alternative assets.
The first part of the book discusses investing and the need to invest, stating that the only way to become rich or maintain the riches that I have already acquired is through investing, that is, making the assets I already have to acquire more assets for me. This part also covers the basic and fundamental principles of investing.
The second part of the book takes me through the various investment products; the markets where I can buy and ell such products and the market players, including regulators, associations and brokers.
Finally, the book also introduces the East African financial market, the available financial instruments and how to invest in them, listing the various financial institutions and their regulators, the exchanges, the member firms and the listed companies. The book then concludes by introducing a prospective investor to fundamental principles of economics and economic institutions.
