To test whether quantitative functional tests and optical coherence tomography (OCT)-defined structure can serve as effective tools to diagnose and monitor early diabetic neuroretinal disease. Fifty-seven subjects with diabetes (23 without diabetic retinopathy [no DR], 19 with mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy [mild NPDR], 15 with moderate to severe [moderate NPDR]), and 18 controls underwent full ophthalmic examination, fundus photography, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), e-ETDRS (Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study) acuity, and the quick contrast sensitivity function (qCSF) method. Perimetry testing included short-wavelength automated perimetry (SWAP), standard automated perimetry (SAP), frequency doubling perimetry (FDP), and rarebit perimetry (RBP). This paper deals with development of the rst public web version of Russian WordNet and future parallel English-Russian and multiligual web versions of WordNet. It describes usage of Russian and English-Russian lexical language resources and software to process WordNet for Russian language and design of a database management systems for efcient storage and retrieval of various kinds of lexical information needed to process WordNet. Relevant aspects of the UML data models, XML format and related technologies are surveyed. Ontologies enable explicit expression of collective concepts and support Machine-to-Machine (M2M) interactions at the semantic level. Ontologies expressed in a standard language, such as the Web Ontology Language (OWL) and exposed on a network offer the potential for unprecedented interoperability solutions since they are semantically rich, computer interpretable and inherently extensible. In this chapter, we describe how we applied ontologies in OWL for rapid enterprise integration of heterogeneous data sources to track objects in a battlespace. We found that once a robust foundational domain ontology is established, it is easy and quick to integrate new data sources and therefore rapidly provide new system capabilities. In particular, we demonstrate how moving tracks can be quickly integrated with intelligence and space events to provide enhanced situational awareness using ontologies. Chronic heart failure is a severe clinical syndrome among the most remarkable for prevalence and morbidity in the developed western countries. The European STREP project HEARTFAID aims at realizing an innovative platform of services which will improve the processes of diagnosis, prognosis and therapy provision in the heart failure domain. The core of the platform intelligence is a Clinical Decision Support System, designed by integrating innovative knowledge representation techniques and hybrid reasoning methods, and including advanced tools for the analysis of diagnostic data. In this paper we discuss how we are using semantic web technologies for implementing a real, significant clinical scenario, covering the clinical course of a heart failure patient.

Background: Interleukin (IL)-12 is a potential adjuvant in a variety of diseases including schistosomiasis. The clinical use of IL-12, however, is limited by the toxicity associated with its systemic administration. We have developed a novel delivery system (designated F2 gel matrix) composed of poly-N-acetyl glucosamine that has the dual properties of sustaining the release of proteins (e.g. interleukins) and adjuvant effects. The main aim of this study was to use a mouse model to test whether IL-12 released from F2 gel can induce adjuvant effects in the schistosomiasis setting as compared to those obtained after systemic delivery of IL-12.
