A novel technique, using an X-ray micro-computed tomography system (X-ray micro-CT system) has been developed for visualization of the two- (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) ice crystal structures formed during freezing. The system reconstructs all 3-D images based on a set of 2-D images obtained by multiple slicing of an X-ray shadow image. This study demonstrates the capability of the technique to characterize the ice crystal microstructure of mycoprotein products after freezing. Results are presented for the 2-D ice crystals formed within mycoprotein frozen at different rates. The method requires freeze-drying of the sample to remove frozen water before scanning to indicate ice crystal and internal structure of the material at a depth of 1 cm. The dendrite spacing of ice crystals has been related to the freezing conditions of the material.

The WHO (2001) recommends exclusive breast-feeding and delaying the introduction of solid foods to an infant's diet until 6 months postpartum. However, in many countries, this recommendation is followed by few mothers, and earlier weaning onto solids is a commonly reported global practice. Therefore, this prospective, observational study aimed to assess compliance with the WHO recommendation and examine weaning practices, including the timing of weaning of infants, and to investigate the factors that predict weaning at ≤ 12 weeks. From an initial sample of 539 pregnant women recruited from the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, Dublin, 401 eligible mothers were followed up at 6 weeks and 6 months postpartum. Quantitative data were obtained on mothers' weaning practices using semi-structured questionnaires and a short dietary history of the infant's usual diet at 6 months. Only one mother (0.2%) complied with the WHO recommendation to exclusively breastfeed up to 6 months. Ninety-one (22.6%) infants were prematurely weaned onto solids at ≤ 12 weeks with predictive factors after adjustment, including mothers' antenatal reporting that infants should be weaned onto solids at ≤ 12 weeks, formula feeding at 12 weeks and mothers' reporting of the maternal grandmother as the principal source of advice on infant feeding. Mothers who weaned their infants at ≤ 12 weeks were more likely to engage in other sub-optimal weaning practices, including the addition of non-recommended condiments to their infants' foods. Provision of professional advice and exploring antenatal maternal misperceptions are potential areas for targeted interventions to improve compliance with the recommended weaning practices.

This study was conducted to assess the level of administrative capability of implementers, level of the implementation of the program and the participation of individual members of the community. Moreover, it evaluated the influence of the program implementation and community participation in the programs' impact. The respondents were identified: municipal and barangay councils, residents, commercial establishments, schools and LGU's. A total of nine hundred forty four (944) respondents participated in the study. The level of participation of the community members in the SWMP is also "Average" as supported by the individual rating for municipal and barangay councils, residents, commercial establishments, schools, and LGU's as well. The component activities of the SWMP are implemented with an "Average" rating. The community members' level of satisfaction on SWMP's impact is "Average". This finding was supported by the respondents' rating on their level of satisfaction on improvement of health and cleanliness, increase in institutions' income and satisfaction of community members. Since the Solid Waste Management Program of Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur is moderately implemented, there are some aspects that require immediate action. The most important reason for waste collection is the protection of the environment and the health of the population. Solid wastes can cause land and water pollution. Rotting garbage is also known to produce harmful gases that mix with the air and can cause health problems in people. Planning the waste management and recycling for all of the wastes produced in this country is an enormous task which involves both logistical planning and scientific knowledge and understanding in order to balance the impact on the environment and the cost effectiveness of the process.

In today's technological world of privacy-conscious users, the tracking of individuals via different positioning systems and services can be considered obtrusive. Furthermore, linking and integrating data from these positioning systems is not always possible or requires the major effort of creating new interfaces between systems. In this paper, we propose an architecture for the realisation of a decentralised positioning system based on the W3C's Solid platform specification. Using this specification, sensor data as well as an individual's location information is stored in secure decentralised data stores called Pods, that are hosted by user-selected Pod providers. We demonstrate that these Pods do not only offer transparent and interoperable data stores for persisting sensor data as well as processed location information, but also aid in linking multiple positioning systems for high-and low-level sensor fusion. For indoor positioning, this interoperability provides a way to offer users a single location-based service while also providing additional semantic context for other positioning systems to improve their data output. Developers of indoor positioning systems can store all data in a format that is readable, understandable and accessible by any other system that their users might be using, enabling collaboration between researchers and companies implementing these indoor positioning systems.

α-Amino nitriles are synthesized by a one-pot three-component condensation reaction of amines, aldehydes and trimethylsilylcyanide in the presence of a catalytic amount of cellulose sulfuric acid as a bio-supported catalyst, in excellent yields with short reaction times at ambient temperature.
