Method Statement for Fire Alarm System
Objective

The objective of generating this Method Statement is to define the procedure


step by step to implement the correct practices for Fire Alarm System installation
procedure through guidelines so as to ensure that the job execution complies
with the requirements of contract specifications and serves the intended function
to satisfactory level.

Scope

This Method Statement is to give instructions regarding the FA System installation


at the Project Site.

MATERIALS, TOOLS AND TACKLES:

 Drilling machine
 Electrical tool kit
 Continuity Tester
 Crimping tool with crimping bits for all required sizes
 Line Tester Chains
 Multimeter
 Illumination Lights
 Scaffolding

PROCEDURE:

1. Precautions before start of work

Prior to start Installation Work, following documents shall be made available:


 Ensure all safety norms are in place as per project safety plan.
 Ensure all required work permits are obtained.
 Approved drawing available
 Approved logistic plan
 Ensure all predecessor activities are approved.
2. General storage and Handling procedures
 All Fire alarm control panels and input output devices, and accessories
shall be carefully off-loaded at site using necessary manpower / chain
pulley block etc. in such a way that no damage is caused to it.
 Visual check shall be done to see whether the Equipment’s and accessories
supplied is in proper protective Packing and is in undamaged condition.
 Equipment’s shall be stored/stacked in a place free of water and
adequately covered to avoid any kind of damages and protection when
storing on a flat surface free from sharp objects.
 All equipment shall be transported to the work place.
3. Procedure for Light Fixture Installation:
 The installation works will be carried out strictly in accordance with this
document / specifications / approved material submittal.
 Retain the shipping crates and protection covers until the equipment’s are
at final location.
 For unloading, lifting and rigging of units follow manufacturer's
recommendation.
 The scope of work includes providing, installing and commissioning of
smoke / heat / duct detectors, manual call points, hooters, main fire
alarm panel, repeater panel, response indicator, modules etc. All these
equipment’s shall be interconnected by 2Core x 1.5 sq. mm Multistrand
copper FRLS cable.
 Armored Cable shall be adequately supported at every 300 mm distance as
per TAC rules.
 Continuity test shall be carried out during cable laying work for various
equipment, in stages as work proceeds.
 Cables to be tagged with proper ferrules for easy identification at panel
location.
 Manual call points shall be installed at a height of 1200 mm form FFL in all
floors as per approved layout drawings.
 Prior to installation of any equipment approval from consultant/client shall
be taken.
 Continuity and loop-wise test shall be carried out for all detectors, manual
call points, and hooters after installation is completed.
 Testing & commissioning of the system shall be carried out as per system
specifications, manufacturer's recommendations and standard
procedures UPS Power supply for Main FA panel and repeater panel to be
ensured.
 Graphic Software (if applicable). Programming and mapping shall be done
as per site.
 Integration of FA system with other services needs to be hooked up if
required.
 Cable tray shall be used for laying conduits wherever required.
 After commissioning, provide the operation instruction chart with Do’s &
Don’ts next to the panel.

4. Quality Control
 Quality Formats for Installation, Testing and Commissioning activities to be
used.
 Ensure that all the instructions as per this Method Statement are followed
at site.

Responsibilities

Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for executing in safe work method as per
drawings and guide the supervisors and workmen.

Surveyor: Surveyor shall ensure the markings and levels are established as per
approved drawings.

Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible managing all plant and machineries and
labor and safety of the workers.
QA/QC Site In charge: He shall be responsible for ensuring the quality
of work as per the specifications and standard.

HSE Manager/Engineer: He shall be responsible for assisting to


engineer/supervisor to ensure the safety of workers during the progress of
work. Safety inductions of each staff and workers shall be done and daily PPE
check to be done and toolbox talk shall be carried out before the start of work.
General safety awareness as well as safety precautions and guidelines for
activity to be carried out in that particular day shall be discussed.

Stores officer: He shall be responsible for receiving and storing of all


incoming materials. Also, responsible for maintaining the record of incoming
and outgoing and up to date stock details of materials.
