Mathm109-Calculus II - Module 1

This 3-paragraph module provides an overview of Calculus II and integration. It discusses (1) finding antiderivatives of functions and using basic integration rules and techniques, (2) learning objectives which are to find and represent antiderivatives and use basic integration methods and rules, and (3) instructions for completing module assignments by specified due dates and available resources for additional learning. The module then covers basic integration methods like substitution and evaluating integrals with examples and exercises for students to practice.

Module 1 – MATH M109 – CALCULUS II

Compiled and Prepared by RICHARD L. GALAG, Master Teacher II

2nd Semester A.Y. 2020-2021

I. OVERVIEW
This module deals with the understanding and discusses the idea of the antiderivative of a function
and formalize as indefinite integrals. We will derive a set of rules that will aid our computations as we solve
problems.

II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This module is designed for you to:

1. find antiderivatives of functions.
2. represent antiderivatives.
3. Use basic anti differentiation techniques.
4. Use basic integration rules.

III. How to complete this module?

1. Read the given module.

2. Complete the ACTIVITY. Due date of your accomplished worksheets (Using EDMODO Account) will be on
May 2, 2021.

3. If any questions or clarification on the lesson, leave a message in our Facebook group chat or in my Facebook
messenger https://www.facebook.com/chardcute.galag or email me at richard.galag@deped.gov.ph, from
Tuesday at 5 PM to 8 PM.

4. You can use the following link provided for additional video presentations that you can use as references.

IV. LECTURE

Basic Methods of Integration

The function F(x) is said to be the integral (in particular, the indefinite integral) of the function f(x), if the
derivative of F(x) is the function f(x) or the differential of F(x) id f(x) dx. Symbolically,

∫ 𝑓 (𝑥) 𝑑𝑥 = 𝐹(𝑥) + 𝐶,
where d{F'(x)} = f(x) dx and the element C is a constant of integration. Therefore,

𝑑
∫ 𝑓(𝑥)𝑑𝑥 = 𝑓(𝑥)
𝑑𝑥
The aforementioned definition:

(i) f(x) dx – is known as the integral

(ii) x – is the variable of integration
(iii) ∫ - is the integral sign (derived from the old English Letter “S”
