The School Environment

SPARK Your Interest

This Episode 1 provides an opportunity for students to examine and reflect on a

school environment that promotes learning and development.

TARGET Your Intended Learning Outcome

➢ At the end of this Episode, I must be able to determine the characteristics of a school
environment that is safe, secure, and is supportive of learning (PPST 2.1.1)

REVISIT the Learning Essential

1. A physical environment conductive for learning is one that has consistent practices
that:
• Keep the school safe, clean, orderly and free from distraction;
• Maintain facilities that provide challenging activities; and
• Address the physical, social and psychological needs of the students.

2. Display boards can be powerful in communicating information about the learning

environment. They help in building and establishing the school culture. These boards
become one way for everyone to learn about the vision-mission, goals, and values that
the school upholds.

3. As a basic part of the school’s visual environment, display board have four general
purpose:
• Decorative- they offer visual stimulation and appeal to aesthetic. They set the social
and psychological atmosphere of the school.
• Motivational- they encourage students to perform better and have greater confidence.
An example would be the display students’ outputs that show that each output is
recognized and valued. The bulletin boards help celebrate the learners’ growth and
progress
• Informational- they are used as strategy to readily disseminate information.
• Instructional- they move students to respond and participate through interactive
displays. They get students to think about and communicate their learning.

4. The set of criteria for evaluating bulletin board display includes effective
communication, attractiveness, balance, unity, interactivity, legibility, correctness,
and durability

To realize the Intended Learning Outcome, Work my way through these steps:

1. Visit a school. Look into facilities and support learning areas in the campus, then in
the classroom.
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gathered data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning.
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of these
a.) Descriptive Paragraph c.) Sketch or drawing
b.) Photo essay d.) Poem, song or rap

OBSERVE

As you move around the campus, observations forms are provided for you to document your
observation. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the school
site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheet
will yield better learning result.

Analyze

How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the students
going to school? What are your conclusions?

- The school campus or classroom plays an important role in the learners' learning, so
its impact must be positive. The school campus and classrooms are already large
enough to accommodate all students and meet all of their needs. Some classrooms are
conducive to learning, while others are not. Many factors influence learning, which can
be positive or negative. It depends on the student's determination to learn despite the
obstacles they face.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/how does this
relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

-In child and adolescent development, I know that the child's cognitive level is still
developing and they're still acquiring and constructing knowledge in their minds, so
topics should involve the appropriate level of mental operations for a child of a given
age in order to facilitate learning. I must avoid assigning tasks to students that are
beyond their current cognitive abilities.
REFLECT

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why
not?
- definitely yes, there are no perfect environment the best reason why I would
like to teach here at BAES it that I’ve witnessed the children learning abilities
and the knowledge that child learned even if the environment is not perfect. For
me its not about the environment, its all about the producer of the knowledge
which is us as a teacher someday.

2. What kind of school campus is conductive to learning?

- A school campus that is conducive to learning is a school that offers the Higher
level of comfort and ease to the learners. It is a school environment that
isAccepting and motivating. It is a school environment that has effective
teachersWho teaches with passion. It is a school environment that has the most
supportiveStaff and head of administration. It is a school environment that is
transforming And safe

3. What kind of classroom is classroom is conductive to learning?

- The right kind of classroom is one where there is contact between the teacher
and the students, where the kids build strong bonds among themselves, and
where there is proper ventilation, excellent lighting, and minimal disruption.
And also, A classroom that is clean, friendly, safe, and well-equipped with the
things that learners need to achieve quality learning

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

- We believe we can accomplish our answer in number three by creating a
Classroom environment that is child-friendly. And by child-friendly we mean
that it is an environment where children feel safe physically, emotionally,
psychologically, and spiritually. We will also try our best in providing
instructional materials that best fit the needs of our learners
5. Write your additional learning and insight here.
- As a teacher I will establish a learning environment in the classroom, I will
need to put what I have learned into practice as a teacher. The positive
atmosphere in the classroom will encourage students to learn, and I'll also set up
processes and routines to make learning effective. I must have to teach students
very well since they are the center of learning. And also, we also learn that it is
important to consider not just the factors that contribute to cognitive
development of learners but the Factors affecting their emotional and social
development is also vital for effectiveLearning.

SHOW Your Learning Artifacts

My Personal Illustration of an Effective

School Environment

The "environment" of a school has a significant role in every students' lives. Schools have a duty to
offer a secure setting where students can grow socially, emotionally, and academically while also
developing these skills. There are a few key qualities that seem to affect how well students perform
in the classroom. Involvement in one's own present and future academic success and progress, a
sense of belonging and belonging to a school, liking the school, a belief that teachers are supportive
and caring, good friends within the school, a belief that discipline is fair and effective, and
participation in extracurricular activities are all part of this. When students think that the adults at
school care about their education, they embrace their surroundings.
