Skill related fitness - is the ability to do well in everyday life activities and sports.

Skill Related Fitness Components

Activity 1
Direction.

1. Follow the safety precautions and refer to the result of your PAR-Q before doing the physical fitness
test.
2. Perform the following physical activities with the assistance of your parents, elder siblings, or anybody
in the home older than you.

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Resting Heart Rate
Directions: Count your pulse for 1 minute before doing any activity with your radial or carotid artery.
Write your pulse rate here: ___________beats per minute
2. General Warm- up Exercise
Directions: Perform a 5 minute- slow jog as a form of general warm- up exercise.

B. Performance of Physical Fitness Test

Ruler Drop Test:


Procedures
• Ask your first volunteer to sit in the chair with good upright posture
and eyes looking across the room.
• Have the volunteer to place her forearm (the part of the arm from
elbow to hand) so it extends over the edge of the table.
• Ask the volunteer to place her thumb and index (pointer) finger on
either side of the bottom of the vertically placed ruler. The number
“1” should be on the bottom, the “30” near the top.
• Let your volunteer practice holding the ruler with those fingers.
• Now, ask your volunteer to remove her fingers from the ruler while
you continue hold it so that the bottom of the ruler is at a height of 2
cm above her fingers.

• Tell your volunteer that you will release the ruler w/o telling her. His/her job will be to catch it with her
thumb and forefinger as soon as he/she senses it dropping.
• Drop the ruler, when your volunteer catches it, record the number on the ruler displayed just over
his/her thumb. The lower the number, the faster his/her reaction time.
• Conduct several trials with the same volunteer, dropping the ruler from 2 cm above his/her fingers each
time.
• Make sure to record the results for each trial in a table similar to the following.

• You might consider letting your volunteers have a rest between trials.
Vertical Jump
Procedures
• The learner stands side on to a post and reaches up with the hand closest to the
wall.
• Keeping the feet flat on the ground, the point of the fingertips is marked or
recorded. This is called standing reach.
• The learner/person puts chalk on their fingertips to mark the post at height of
their jump.
• The person then stands away from the post, and jumps vertically as high as
possible using both arms and legs to assist in projecting the body upwards.
• Attempt to touch the post at the highest point of the jump.
• The difference s distance between the standing reach height and the jump

• The best of three attempts is recorded.
