In recent years there have been significant advances in the use of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) inthe education of students with learning disabilities. In this paper we represent some important studies which highlight theimportance of using ICTs, with special reference to online and mobile learning applications, both for assessment andintervention required for students with dyscalculia. Results of the studies revealed that the use of ICTs in education andespecially in children with dyscalculia, may in the future become an integral part of the global education process, howeverthere are still many parameters to be investigated.

In recent years, more and more researchers have been investigating mathematical knowledge, as well as the cognitive skills that seem to be related to the improvement of mathematical thinking, numerical skills, mathematical logic and problem solving techniques. In this paper, we present the cognitive processes that are related to mathematical performance, such as working memory, anxiety, attention, spatial cognition, executive function and phonological awareness. In addition, we refer to metacognitive skills and their role in controlling and regulating cognitive processes, in order to improve mathematical performance. Finally, we present a new taxonomy of mathematical skills, the pyramid of mathematical cognition, as well as their gradual development through the appropriate cognitive and metacognitive mechanisms.

The research area of brain plasticity studies indicates that individuals can train and improve their cognitive abilities throughout life. In addition, more and more computerized training tools are presented in recent studies. The purpose of this study is to represent studies of the last decade in the field of cognitive training with the use of Information and Communication Tech-nologies, to record the cognitive improvement techniques used, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of these intervention programs. As indicated by the literature review, computer-based tools, mobile training apps and video games could be used in intervention studies for cognitive improve-ment. In addition, cognitive training techniques seem to be significantly ef-fective for the cognitive improvement of healthy or cognitive impaired in-dividuals.

The utilization of ICTs in creating new jobs and eliminating gender based inequalities in employability and entrepreneurship, employs increasingly more researchers, governments and organizations around the world. In this article we analyze the current situation regarding the impact of ICTs, social networks and media on creating new opportunities for the employability of women. We also present the new market requirements, the new e-skills that will be acquired by women in order to take advantage of new labor market opportunities. Finally special reference is made to new trends in women's entrepreneurship as well as the supportive role of ICTs.

Mobile and online learning applications become more known year after year and are used today from millions of students and educators in all over the world. Wireless mobile devices like smartphones, PDAs and tablets, could be used to benefit students’ learning in or out of the classroom. In front of the idea of inclusion of mobile learning in educational process, we represent in this paper some important case studies which examine the consequence of using mobile tools and apps, as well as online applications in mathematics teaching, at all educational levels.

Mathematical achievement during the first years of primary school seems to be a reliable predictor of students' later performance. In addition, cognitive, metacognitive, and psychological parameters are considered to be factors related to mathematical achievement. However, in the Greek educational system, there is a shortage of valid and reliable tools for the assessment of mathematics difficulties and as a consequence, identification of children with these difficulties does not take place before the last years of primary school. This study aims to investigate the relationship between working memory, sustained attention, executive functions, and math anxiety with mathematical achievement in 2nd and 3rd graders. The design of the study was based on the parameters of mathematics difficulties, as they arise from the literature review. Ninety-one Year 2 and Year 3 primary school students (mean age 8.06 years) from three public schools situated in Attica, Greece participated in the study. The students completed three different scales including educational, cognitive, and psychological tasks. Results showed that mathematical skills were significantly correlated with sustained attention, inductive reasoning, math anxiety, and working memory. Moreover, mental arithmetic ability, sustained attention, and working memory predicted mathematical achievement of second and third graders. The study's outcomes verify that sustained attention, inductive reasoning, working memory, and math anxiety are correlated with young students' mathematical performance. The implications of the results for the development of an assessment tool for early detection of mathematics difficulties will be discussed.

The purpose of this study was to examine teachers' attitudes and perceptions regarding the integration and development of Emotional Intelligence (ΕΙ) in preschool, primary, and secondary teaching levels within the school context. ΕΙ is a gateway to a balanced life. It is a major factor for a healthy development of interpersonal relationships, whether we are referring to relationships in personal or professional life. Because of its importance, teachers should be informed and trained how to develop their ΕΙ and how to cultivate and strengthen their students' ΕΙ. In this study is presented an online questionnaire which was designed in order to assess teachers' attitudes and perceptions regarding El development in Greek schools. Psychometric evaluation on data from 242 teachers indicates that the proposed scale is valid and reliable.

Cognitive and metacognitive skills are recognized and studied since antiquity. From the theory of Aristotle, according to which knowledge is product of the human mind and Platonic gnosiology and the theory of true knowledge, to the modern cognitive science, the question of how people acquire knowledge, has occupied a multitude of scientists. In this article we present a cognitive-based approach to the process of acquiring knowledge, we analyze the dominant theories of knowledge, theories of intelligence, as well as learning theories, and thus we propose an eight-layer pyramid of knowledge. We also analyze the cognitive processes and metacognitive skills required to get an individual to the highest layer of the knowledge pyramid.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems incorporate Artificial Intelligence techniques, in order to imitate a human tutor. These expert systems are able to assess student's proficiency , to provide solved examples and exercises for practice in each topic, as well as to provide immediate and personalized feedback to learners. The present study is a systematic review that evaluates the contribution of the Intelligent Tutoring Systems developed so far, to Mathematics Education, representing some of the most representative studies of the last decade.
