The purpose of this paper is to report results of a formative usability study that investigated first-year student use of an optical character recognition (OCR) mobile application (app) designed to help students find resources for course assignments. The app uses textual content from the assignment sheet to suggest relevant library resources of which students may not be aware.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability of the mobile application of Centralized Hospital Appointment System (CHAS) developed by the Ministry of Health in 2012, as part of e-government efforts in Turkey. A study group was formed consisting of 16 people, 8 females and 8 males between the ages of 18 and 55, and selected for their CHAS experience. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used as part of a mixed research design. Qualitative data sources for the study consisted of observation notes taken while performing authentic tasks that were selected through field research, notes generated by the think-aloud method and meeting notes taken after the process. This paper concentrates on the implementation of a new screening method in Austrian schools to assess children and find out if they have any special educational needs in educational areas like phonology, counting, knowledge of letters and numbers and others. The underlying structure of the assignments was developed by developmental psychologists from the University of Graz and the University of Vienna and then implemented as a mobile application for Android tablets. For testing and evaluation purposes, the app's prototype was first used voluntary by multiple Austrian schools. Furthermore, the mobile application had to be fully functional when offline as well as a central web application had to be developed to give the developmental psychologists access to the screening results. However, the main goal was to develop the application in a way that especially children without sufficient skills in reading and writing are able to understand the assignment's tasks and to perform input.

This research focused on the methods of optical character recognition technologies that applied to android-based translator application. The high number of deaf-born babies in Indonesia causes a high number of children who will grow but cannot recognize various types of letters yet because they are limited by their physical abilities. So, to help introduce letters more broadly, effectively, and efficiently, the latest technological innovations are needed, one of which is the application of converting images containing text into text and translating into sign language. In making this android-based application used Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology by using Tesseract as an engine of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for character or letter recognition.

The advancement of technology is making it difficult for visually impaired people to obtain the most up-to-date and sophisticated phones. The Internet of Things has the potential to improve social interaction for visually challenged people. Hardware devices are constantly being equipped with various electronic sensors for collecting real-time data. However, specially-abled people need an integrated system to access the features of mobile applications and external hardware kits on one platform. Therefore, an integrated framework for the specially-abled is developed. IoT has the potential to improve social integration for people with visual defects. This research is an attempt to design a framework for developing a mobile application using IoT to provide secure and integrated services to the visually impaired people. The findings of the study revealed that the designed framework will help in developing various wireless embedded systems using mobile phones. Furthermore, key features of the designed framework are also highlighted and compared with other frameworks.

A prior research done indicates that there is various challenges farmers face including unpredictable weather conditions affecting farmers' yields, slow flow of information from the agronomist and meteo Rwanda to the farmers, regionalized weather information, data provided by meteo is hard for farmers to interpret.This project was sponsored by UNDP-Rwanda and organised by Rwanda Meteorology Agency. The aim of this system is to help in fast communication between Rwanda Meteorology Agency, agronomists, famers' facilitators and farmers in meaningful way. The researchers used qualitative methods by conducting an interview with the meteo, agronomist, and farmers. An observation was also used to get first-hand information on the flow of communication betweenmeteo, agronomists, volunteers, farmer facilitators and farmers. Existing Communication was Analyzed andProposed Effiective Kubero Communication Model, which allow faster communication between stakeholders.An Innovative approaches Agile methodology was used to develop a pilot project. A prototype was designed to deliver timely climate related information and predictions to address pressing needs of farmers in climate disaster prone areas. Where farmers will be periodically accessing of clear weather prediction via USSD, together with agronomists' suggestion, so that they can plan a head and a prototype was distributed betweenmeteoRwanda, agronomist, volunteers and farmers for their feedback.Farmers Smart Technology is a three one App, which has Android App, USSD farmer App and Meteo Web App. Agronomist will use Android App to access provincial weather forecast data to provide suggestion to famers. Agronomist can send emergency alert to famers' facilitators. Farmers can retrieve weather forecast data along with agronomist's suggestion in meaningful way using USSD App. Farmers can provide feedback on weather prediction in yes, no or maybe which can help meteorology Agency to improve their prediction. Volunteer will also use USSD App to feed temperatures and rainfall of the day. This Volunteers' data will be accessed by Rwanda Meteorology Agency using Meteo Web App for their approval.The feature that the system provides makes this proposed system an easy to use.

Com o crescente uso de softwares e aplicativos por parte dos professores e alunos, é essencial que se possa avaliar sua utilidade, características positivas e negativas, o tempo médio necessário para o desenvolvimento de uma compreensão razoável do idioma através de seu uso, e o grau de autonomia que tais aplicativos possam dar ao aluno em relação aos professores. Para a realização deste trabalho foram abordadas um número determinado de pessoas que responderam um questionário com perguntas abertas e alternativas sobre o uso de aplicativos de estudo de língua inglesa e posteriormente feita análise qualitativa e quantitativa do conteúdo das respostas para que pudessem ser apresentados os resultados desta pesquisa.

Having a fixed time and place to study and practice a foreign language is still part of our reality, but with the advent of mobile apps and the development of platforms with online teachers, some people have been looking for alternative tools or faster ways to learn. Combining the idea of ​​teaching with mobile devices can bring new opportunities to users at any time and enable unique learning experiences. With the increasing use of software and applications by teachers and students, it is essential to assess its usefulness, positive and negative characteristics, the average time required to develop a reasonable understanding of the language through its use, and the autonomy that such applications can give to the students. For this research, a questionnaire survey with open and alternative questions about the use of mobile applications for English language study was used and, afterward, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the content of the answers was made so that the results could be presented. Mobile application development is fast emerging area in software development. The testing of the mobile application is more significant and there is lot of tools available for testing mobile applications particularly for Android and iOS. In this paper we review the five significant testing tools for Android and iOS, such as Robotium, Ranorex, Appium, MonkeyTalk and UIAutomator. Robotium supports test case developers to write function, system and acceptance test scenarios and simulate Black Box testing for android application. Ranorex is mainly used for GUI testing in windows which also supports mobile and web based application. Appium is a cross platform, which allows to write test against multiple platforms using the same API. MonkeyTalk test from simple “smoke test” to sophisticated data-driven test suites. UIAutomator is a testing framework, which ensures an app to meet its functional requirements and achieve a high standard quality.

Requirements defects have a major impact throughout the whole software lifecycle. Having a specific defects classification for requirements is important to analyse the root causes of problems, build checklists that support requirements reviews and to reduce risks associated with requirements problems. In our research we analyse several defects classifiers; select the ones applicable to requirements specifications, following rules to build defects taxonomies; and assess the classification validity in an experiment of requirements defects classification performed by graduate and undergraduate students. Not all subjects used the same type of defect to classify the same defect, which suggests that defects classification is not consensual. Considering our results we give recommendations to industry and other researchers on the design of classification schemes and treatment of classification results.

ABSTRACT Providing continuous care for residents of long-term health care facilities or for individuals requiring home care can be difficult. The daily needs of residents exist within the context of long term health goals, which are often tailored for individual residents' needs but are identified by multiple caregivers. Collaboration and clear communication between caregivers is essential for delivery of effective care. Analysis and constant sharing of resident status over time is needed in order to evaluate a status change and define treatments. By investigating the workflow in a long term health facility, we identified the key needs of caregivers to document and share resident status, analyze documentation relative to long term health goals and treatments, and to share information with other caregivers. We propose a five-point strategy for addressing these needs, derived from this investigation, as follows:, (i) data capture is supported in multiple formats, (ii) visual analytics tools are provided to analyze records, (iii) collaborative tools are provided to facilitate information sharing and the organization of care, (iv) user interaction is aided by the implementation of a natural user interface (NLH), and (v) the interface optimizes communication. In this paper, we share three prototype designs which support caregivers in a long-term care facility and are scalable for homecare use. We also present the context and the design methodology through which the designs emerged.

Obesity among children around the world has now reached an alarming level. Obesity affects one out of every ten children or teenagers all over the world. Parents should be the one responsible for their children well-being. With the advent of mobile technology, various mobile app have been developed to help people to manage their daily lives. This paper discusses on the development and evaluation of the Body Mass Index (BMI) Percentile Monitor, a mobile app for monitoring children's obesity status by parents. This study aims to predict the level of international tourists' intention to use MTG in the context of Thai national parks, and investigates the roles of mobile design qualities (content quality, appearance quality, and interaction quality) through perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use on intention. The mixed-method using exploratory sequential design is the research method. The qualitative approach is started in the first stage then quantitative approach is analysed the large sample size. This study extends the TAM2 with mobile design qualities. The results shows the high level of international tourist' intention to use MTG. It indicates that the international tourists will intent to the mobile tourism guide (MTG), if the MTG is provided for them. The direct factors of tourists' intention are perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, mobile content quality and mobile appearance quality. The most direct effect is mobile content quality. The qualities of content and appearance have the positive roles on perceived usefulness, while the qualities of appearance and interaction have the indirect effects through perceived ease-of-use on tourists' intention. The proposed model provides the body of knowledge in the context of MTG, especially the factors of international tourists' intention to use MTG.

Research in consumer science has proven that grocery shopping is a complex and distressing process. Further, the task of generating the grocery lists for the grocery shopping is always undervalued as the effort and time took to create and manage the grocery lists are unseen and unrecognized. Even though grocery lists represent consumers' purchase intention, research pertaining the grocery lists does not get much attention from researchers; therefore, limited studies about the topic are found in the literature. Hence, this study aims at bridging the gap by designing and developing a mobile app (application) for creating and managing grocery lists using modern smartphones. Smartphones are pervasive and become a necessity for everyone today. Hence, a smartphone app that can facilitate the process of creating and managing grocery lists for busy and working people is beneficial. The design and development of the app followed the rapid application development methodology. First, the functional requirements were gathered through interviews and content analysis. Then, a prototype named SMART LIST has been developed based on the gathered requirements, and a field study was carried out to evaluate the usability of the prototype. The results of the evaluation suggested that SMART LIST is useful and easy to use. The respondents also satisfied with the functions for managing grocery lists offered by SMART LIST. The study contributes towards an understanding the system requirements and user interface of a mobile app for managing grocery list. Obesity is a major health problem around the world. Saudi Arabia is a nation where obesity is increasing at an alarming rate. This paper aims at testing the usability of a fitness mobile app" Aded Surat", an app in Arabic language. This paper presents an extensive literature review on the attributes that improve the usability of fitness apps. Then, it explains our methodology and our set up of a trial to test the usability of Aded Surat app that is popular in Saudi Arabia. The usability attributes tested are effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, memorability, errors, learnability and cognitive load. The trial is done in collaboration with participants from the Armed Forces Hospitals-Taif Region in Saudi Arabia. The results highlight that the app failed to meet with the usability attributes.
