Mobile has become a mainstream medium for news consumption on the go. To cater to the growing demand for mobile news, traditional news providers have switched from " mobile too " to " mobile first " strategies. To enhance mobile news communication, it is imperative for mobile news providers to stay abreast of mobile news consumers' changing expectations of mobile news experience in a news app. Equally imperative it is to identify the gap between news consumers' expectations and what mobile news experience is embedded in a mobile news app. Using a mobile experience index, we have located the venue and extent of the gap through conducting a survey of mobile news app users and a comparative analysis of indicators of mobile news experience in selected news apps. In our paper, we also offer our insightful analysis of the identified issues and causes.

Apps and fitness trackers have changed the application culture of bio-surveillance. Their feedback technologies not only facilitate healthy lifestyle practices, but also multiply social control. At the interface of digital media systems and bioinformatic knowledge media, in the trend of self-measurement, they help to consider the body as a media object of regulated design and numerical forms of expression. The article deals with the logic of digital fitness and health monitoring devices and examines its importance in the context of self-management practices in process-oriented negotiation processes.

Apps und Fitness-Tracker haben die Anwendungskultur der Bio-Surveillance verändert. Ihre Feedbacktechnologien erleichtern nicht nur Praktiken der gesunden Lebensführung, sondern multiplizieren auch soziale Kontrolle. An der Schnittstelle von digitalen Mediensystemen und bioinformatischen Wissensmedien tragen sie im Trend der Selbstvermessung dazu bei, den Körper als Medienobjekt geregelter Gestaltung und numerischer Ausdrucksformen zu betrachten. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Programmlogik dieses digitalen Fitness- und Gesundheitsmonitoring und untersucht ihren Stellenwert im Kontext von Praktiken der Selbstführung in prozessorientierten Aushandlungsprozessen.

Informing the users about their environment is of extreme importance for their full and independent functioning in the traffic system. Today's development of technology provides the user the access to information about their environment by using the smartphone device at any moment if there is a defined applicative solution. This paper presents and evaluates different computational models for review rating prediction. The models rely solely on star ratings from an annotated corpus of customer reviews of mobile apps that were collected from the Google Play Store in a related work. Fine-granular opinions and the classification of their sentiment orientation were already available. The models build upon them to make predictions based on their polarity. Predicting star ratings is of importance to the sentiment analysis community because it can better be understood how customers subjectively rate products. Rating them consistently with corresponding written reviews, however, remains a difficult task for automated predictors. This paper sheds new light in that direction.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, but also in the context of previous epidemic diseases, mobile apps for smartphones were developed with different goals and functions, such as digital contact tracing, test management, symptom monitoring, quarantine compliance, and epidemiological and public health research. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the potential for the acceptance of research-orientated apps (ROAs) in the German population. To this end, we identified distinctive attitudes toward pandemic apps and data sharing for research purposes among smartphone users in general and with a focus on differences in attitudes between app users and nonusers in particular.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, national, telephone-based survey of 1003 adults in Germany, of which 924 were useable for statistical analysis. The 17-item survey assessed current usage of pandemic apps, motivations for using or not using pandemic apps, trust in app distributors and attitudes toward data handling (data storage and transmission), willingness to share coded data with researchers using a pandemic app, social attitudes toward app use, and demographic and personal characteristics.

Results: A vast majority stated that they used a smartphone (778/924, 84.2%), but less than half of the smartphone users stated that they used a pandemic app (326/778, 41.9%). The study focused on the subsample of smartphone users. Interestingly, when asked about preferred organizations for data storage and app distribution, trust in governmental (federal or state government, regional health office), public-appointed (statutory health insurance), or government-funded organizations (research institutes) was much higher than in private organizations (private research institutions, clinics, health insurances, information technology [IT] companies). Having a university degree significantly (P<.001) increased the likelihood of using a pandemic app, while having a migration background significantly (P<.001) decreased it. The overwhelming majority (653/778, 83.9%) of smartphone users were willing to provide their app data for state-funded research. Regarding attitudes toward app usage, striking differences between users and nonusers were found. Almost all app users (317/327, 96.9%) stated they would be willing to share data, whereas only 74.3% (336/452) of nonusers supported data sharing via an app. Two-thirds (216/326, 66.3%) of app users fully or rather agreed with the statement that using a pandemic app is a social duty, whereas almost the same proportion of nonusers entirely or rather disagreed with that statement (273/451, 60.5%).

Conclusions: These findings indicate a high potential for the adoption of ROAs among smartphone users in Germany as long as organizational providers engaged in development, operation, and distribution are state-funded or governmental institutions and transparency about data-using research institutions is provided.

The development, usage, and investigation of educational math applications for mobile devices have increased in recent years. This manuscript analyzes the current state of educational mathematics applications for K-12, higher learning, and professional needs. Specifically, we will highlight the current limitations, and provide a taxonomy of the features found in the most effective apps. Also, we specify the major components and considerations concerning math applications. Several methods of implementation are discussed within indicated learning contexts. Alignment with solid educational theory promotes the effectiveness of the apps, which has been replicated in multiple research studies. Finally, we provide an overview of the types of math apps and how to select one that fits a specific instructional need.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability of the mobile application of Centralized Hospital Appointment System (CHAS) developed by the Ministry of Health in 2012, as part of e-government efforts in Turkey. A study group was formed consisting of 16 people, 8 females and 8 males between the ages of 18 and 55, and selected for their CHAS experience. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used as part of a mixed research design. Qualitative data sources for the study consisted of observation notes taken while performing authentic tasks that were selected through field research, notes generated by the think-aloud method and meeting notes taken after the process. — Self-tracking refers to the regular collection of data about oneself. Smartphones and wearables have made self-tracking a pervasive activity. This paper describes the design process of a self-tracking mood functionality, which is part of the KOOLO mobile application. The purpose of the KOOLO application is to support young patients, teenagers and young adults with long-term health challenges, in the transition from child-oriented to adult-oriented healthcare. We implemented a design approach, based on a participatory design process combined with a focus on the wellbeing of the whole person, not just the diagnosis. The result was a mood tracking functionality that collects qualitative mood data in the form of color-tagged photos. The visualization of the data resulted in both a quantification of the data as well as in an interactive mood map. The organization of the color-tagged photos, in the form of a timeline and map, enables the user access to the mood data in different ways.

Bumble brands itself as a feminist dating app that’s designed to empower women. According to Bumble’s website, the app was developed to “challenge the antiquated rules of dating” by requiring those who identify as women to initiate communication with men they match with.
But my research shows that Bumble, despite purporting to empower women, leaves many female users feeling frustrated and vulnerable. This disconnect can be linked in part to the ways in which many men engage with online dating apps.

One of the major issues for highly crowded metropolitan cities is road traffic congestion. Road traffic congestion causes traffic jams, which affects major services like ambulance service. As a solution, this paper has come up with " Intelligent automatic traffic signal control for ambulance ". To implement the intelligent traffic signal control system, it makes use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. The proposed system uses an android app that connects with an ambulance as well as the traffic signal station using cloud. The idea behind the proposed system is, whenever an ambulance halts on its way to the hospital due to traffic congestion, the RFID reader installed at the traffic signal reads the RFID tagged ambulance and sends its data to the microcontroller. At the microcontroller, the app command is verified and the particular signal is changed to green until the ambulance passes by. It then regains its normal flow. It acts as a lifesaver project as it saves the time in emergency period to control the traffic lights.

With applications ranging from object recognition to spatial navigation, computer vision has become a key feature of most contemporary infrastructures. Compared to facial recognition and other techniques of surveillance, privacy-oriented messaging app Snapchat might seem like a fairly banal implementation of this technology; yet, such commodified services have become a key framework through which information is not only captured, classified, and monetized, but also mobilized around a specific vision for the future of infrastructure. The logic governing how Snapchat’s modes of vision prioritize, capture, and make visible the objects and subjects with which it engages might be quite opaque, but three key devices – or technologies of the future as they are framed in this text – offer a privileged perspective on the infrastructure behind the app: Snapchat’s business plans, patents, and functions. While many media theorists situate computer vision within a larger techno-cultural obsession with identifying and classifying people, this article will attempt to complement this body of work by using these devices to highlight the promissory logic embedded in computer vision. By illuminating how visibility, visuality, and vision are conceived and operationalized by the infrastructure supporting apps like Snapchat, these devices shed light on how infrastructure is conceived and constructed as both a real and imaginary space where different futures can be disclosed and enacted. The infrastructure of vision that results, this text agues, necessarily functions as an infrastructure for a vision by making certain futures more visible than others, thus reframing vision as the site where economic interests, media habits, and practices of data capture are both amplified and distorted.

This study investigates theoretical model of tourist intention in the context of mobile tourism guide. The research model consists of three constructs: mobile design quality, innovation characteristics, and intention to use mobile tourism guide. In order to investigate the effects of determinants and examine the relationships, partial least squares is employed for data analysis and research model development. The results show that mobile design quality and innovation quality significantly impact on tourists&#39; intention to use mobile tourism guide. Furthermore, mobile design quality has a strong influence on innovation characteristics, and cannot be the moderator on the relationship between innovation characteristics and tourists&#39; intention to use mobile tourism guide. Our findings propose theoretical model for mobile research and provide an important guideline for developing mobile application.

BACKGROUND Military personnel have an elevated risk of sustaining mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) and postconcussion symptoms (PCS). Smartphone apps that provide psychoeducation may assist those with mTBI or PCS to overcome unique barriers that military personnel experience with stigma and access to health care resources. Στα πλαίσια αυτά είναι σημαντικό για γονείς και εκπαιδευτικούς να είναι σε θέση να αξιολογήσουν κάθε εφαρμογή για την αποτελεσματικότητά της στην εκπαιδευτική πράξη. Ωστόσο, γονείς και εκπαιδευτικοί έχουν περιορισμένα μέσα αξιολόγησης της καταλληλότητας μιας φορητής εφαρμογής. Branded iphone apps have had varying degrees of success in appealing to the Millennial demographic. Our research conclusions are based on literature review, textual analysis of award winning apps, developer interviews, and discussion with two groups from the Thai Generation Y demographic, and show that successful branded apps for iphone follow a 3 stage development strategy, express brand identity, and meet the needs and preferences of the target audience. The findings show that in app design, color and typeface are commonly used to subtly express brand identity. Relevant messages delivered through an experimental style were found to express brand personality. Technologies and features in all three apps were simple enough to increase usability and prevent user confusion. The development strategy can be divided into 3 stages: pre-production, production and evaluation. It is also found that Thai Generation Y have a strong demand for iPhone apps that provide them with useful content, serve their specific needs, and fit with their lifestyles. It suggests that the brand officers should always be clear about the target group’s needs and expectations of design, features, and usage. Apps should be designed to engage with the consumer rather than simply selling products to them.

Given that there are over 80,000 educational apps in the Apple store alone (Apple, 2017), teachers need clear guidance on choosing the most useful tools possible. The purpose of this paper is to provide an evidence-based framework for selecting and evaluating math apps used in elementary school settings. Based on a comprehensive review of the literature, five app types (instructive, practice-based, constructive, productive, game-based) will be discussed in detail. Next, eight characteristics (learning value, content quality, learning goals, usability, engagement, challenge level, feedback, and collaboration) for evaluating the quality of math apps will be described. Finally, the role of the teacher in integrating math apps into the classroom will be explained.

Parkinson's Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by a loss of nerves in the brain, specifically in the Substantia Nigra. This part of the brain is responsible for creating dopamine, a chemical transmitter, and hormone used by neurons in a paracrine connection. This hormone is correlated with feelings of pleasure, however, it has further purposes such as learning, memory, and most physically relevant to Parkinson's Disease-motor control. Today, there is no effective way of monitoring Parkinson's Disease in a clinical setting. So far, the only way to detect the signs of Parkinson's Disease is to study the patient's ancestry in relation to Parkinson's and to perform qualitative tests monitored by a physician. Through this project, "MobiTest", I aim to digitize these tests to monitor the progression of Parkinson's Disease. The main goal of this project is to ensure that constant monitoring no longer requires the assistance of a physician, and to bring monitoring to those suffering from Parkinson's disease all over the world-onto their smartphones. MobiTest utilizes Advanced Statistics algorithms and Support Vector Classifiers to quantify drawings of spirals into a score on a UPDRS (Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale) from 1 to 5, where 1 is least severe and 5 is most severe. MobiTest also provides charts in which users can identify trends in their scores that can be sent to physicians. Apart from progression monitoring, MobiTest also includes a specialized keyboard that serves to help the caretakers of speech-impaired Parkinson's Disease patients to look up commonly used words. This keyboard uses a Bayesian theorem for a progressive NLP prediction algorithm to make suggestions for a fast and efficient lookup time.

It has been seven years since California is in serious drought. The dam holds rare water, and for some area the plants and people are suffered. While the technologies of desalination and reusing water is improving, it is significant if we solve the problem from the root, which is reducing water usage and saving water. Since eighty percent of water in California is used for agriculture and greening, it is efficient if we break through the system of irrigation. Currently, there are many ways to reduce watering in agriculture such as dropping water drops from pipes instead of spraying water; however, there are now resolution addressing the system of private watering yard in communities. The sprinkler device that we designed can contribute to reduce the water that is sprayed through sprinkler by adjusting the status of sprinklers (turning on or turning off) base on real-time weather conditions (temperature and soil humidity). Our purpose is to reduce the spraying water as much as possible if the weather condition allowed.

This study aims to predict the level of international tourists' intention to use MTG in the context of Thai national parks, and investigates the roles of mobile design qualities (content quality, appearance quality, and interaction quality) through perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use on intention. The mixed-method using exploratory sequential design is the research method. The qualitative approach is started in the first stage then quantitative approach is analysed the large sample size. This study extends the TAM2 with mobile design qualities. The results shows the high level of international tourist' intention to use MTG. It indicates that the international tourists will intent to the mobile tourism guide (MTG), if the MTG is provided for them. The direct factors of tourists' intention are perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, mobile content quality and mobile appearance quality. The most direct effect is mobile content quality. The qualities of content and appearance have the positive roles on perceived usefulness, while the qualities of appearance and interaction have the indirect effects through perceived ease-of-use on tourists' intention. The proposed model provides the body of knowledge in the context of MTG, especially the factors of international tourists' intention to use MTG.

More than 2 million people in the United States are unable to speak or use handwriting as an effective and efficient mean of communication (ASHA,2004). This paper discusses a brief history of augmentative alternative communication (AAC) devices. The ultimate goal of an AAC intervention is to enable individuals to efficiently and effectively engage in a variety of interactions. Communication is a critical element of staying connected to society and is the tool for redefining one’s self. This paper discusses the history of AAC, as well as etiologies that may benefit from AAC use. Without access to speech, individuals are severely restricted within communication and participation in all aspects of life. Furthermore, new mobile technology such as the iPad has brought AAC into the mainstream. The iPad and other mobile technologies provide powerful new tools to potentially enhance communication for individuals with developmental disabilities, acquired neurogenic disorders, and degenerative neurological conditions. A brief comparison between today's mobile technologies and traditional AAC devices such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the Voice Output Communication Device (VOCD) proves which speech generating device (SGD) is more beneficial to individuals that require AAC.
