The increasing number of retrenchments because of the current global pandemic, Covid-19, has led many to shift to the digital economy, especially among the low-income group (B40) in Malaysia. Crowdsourcing is the collection of information, opinions, or work from a group of people, usually sourced via the Internet. Fueled by the development of Internet-based platforms that provided its technological foundation, and the need for an agile and uniquely skilled workforce, crowdsourcing has grown from the grassroots, with a burgeoning body of research investigating its many aspects. However, very few studies examined crowd workers' motivation for continuous participation on online crowdsourcing platforms. Thus, this paper aims to explore the technological factors that facilitate B40's group motivation in Malaysia to continue to participate in online crowdsourcing platforms. This paper employed a qualitative approach, using a semi-structured interview. The thematic analysis method ...

Purpose This study aims to examine the determinants of Facebook adoption and its impact on the performance of service-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in northwestern Nigeria. The mediating effect of Facebook adoption between the determinants of Facebook adoption and the performance of the SMEs was examined. Design/methodology/approach A comprehensive framework was built using the technology – organisation–environment framework integrated with the resource-based view theory. Data were collected from 165 SME decision-makers using an online survey. The hypothesised relationships were tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling. Findings Facebook adoption exerted a positive impact on the financial and non-financial performance of the SMEs. The important determinants of Facebook adoption were relative advantage, perceived risks, top management support, organisational readiness and government support. The mediating effect of Facebook adoption between these determinants and financial and non-financial performance was confirmed. Research limitations/implications The findings contribute to better insight into the determinants of Facebook adoption and its impact on the financial and non-financial performance of SMEs. The findings can inspire and guide SMEs on adopting Facebook as a marketing strategy to improve performance and reduce failure rates. Originality/value The findings confirm the potential of adopting Facebook for enhancing the performance of SMEs. This is arguably among the first empirical studies to test the mediating effect of Facebook adoption.

Big data analytics is a crucial pillar of organisational success. Today’s organisations need to leverage the troves of big data to achieve competitive advantage over their competitors. This is only possible by extracting valuable meaning from the vast amount of data. Big data analytics is the tool used for this value extraction. This research in progress aims to help Malaysian public organisations leverage the BDA capabilities to improve their performance and provide better services for citizens. The research proposed a modified DELTA model, and after exploratory interviews with MAMPU officials, factors believed to be highly influential in the Malaysian context were added such as knowledge sharing and job turnover.

The availability and appropriately collected data/information is a crucial part to overcome and provide better response when handling numerous disasters. Since Aceh is an area prone to natural disasters, there is a need to address the lack of data management especially in the governmental organizations. Geographical Information System (GIS) is one of the many existing technologies that has been recognized as a powerful tool to resolve problems that arise during emergency management. The objective of this research is to determine the levels of user intention to adopt the GIS and to investigate the relationship between user acceptance factors and user intention to adopt the GIS. The dependent variable is the behavioural intention to adopt the GIS technology; whereas the two independent variables are perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. A set of questionnaire was constructed and used as an instrument to collect primary data. Statistical analysis using multiple regression was...

Absorptive Capacity (AC) is stated to be a crucial determinant of firm behavior. However, diverse conceptualisation of the construct exists in prior research, with both resources and capabilities specified as its elements, which appears to be theoretically inconsistent. In this conceptual paper we synthesise prior research and propose the essence of the AC construct based on theoretical anchor of the Rubicon model of action phases. The fundamental premise of this conceptual paper is that AC is a higher level capability that enables a firm to acquire information about a new phenomenon of interest to the firm and then assimilate the information, thereby transforming the information into knowledge about the phenomenon in terms of its relevance to the firm. We also propose that this higher level capability (which is the essence of AC), is driven by a combination of existing or procurable knowledge and resources that can be appropriated by the firm. We draw from three theories, the Rubicon Model of action phases, the Resource Based View (RBV) and the (Knowledge Based Theory) KBT, and propose a conceptual model of the essence of AC and its determinants in the specific context of adoption of a new technology (cloud computing) by small firms. The concept of absorptive capacity (AC) was first introduced by Cohen and Levinthal (1990), who defined it as ‘the ability of an organisation to recognise the value of new, external information, assimilate it, and apply it to commercial ends’. Finding from past research indicates the positive impact of absorptive capacity on organisational learning, knowledge sharing, capability building and firm performance. However, several definitions of the AC concept have since been advanced. AC has been viewed as the capacity to learn and solve problems (Kim, 1997a,b, 1998), a combination of efficiency, scope and flexibility (Van Den Bosch et al., 1999, as cited in Schmidt, 2005), a set of organizational routines and processes by which firms acquire, assimilate, transform, and exploit knowledge to produce a dynamic organizational capability (Zahra and George, 2002), and the use of routines to gather, communicate and apply knowledge from the wider environment in ways that blend with accumulated experience (Liao, Welsch, & Stoica, 2003). In more recent research, absorptive capacity is defined as four distinct stages of knowledge acquisition, assimilation, transformation and exploitation that emerge, chronologically in that order (Zahra and George, 2002; Daghfous, 2004). Tu et al.(2006) defined AC as an organizational mechanism that helps to identify, communicate, and assimilate relevant external and internal knowledge. It can be seen from the above review that both resources (such as skills, knowledge, accumulated experience) and capabilities (such as routines to gather and communicate knowledge, ability to blend and assimilate different sources of knowledge with accumulated experience) were mentioned as essence of the AC construct by previous researchers.

[RAMAYAH T., AHMAD SUHAIMI BAHARUDIN (2005). PERSONAL WEB USAGE IN THE WORK PLACE: RESULTS FROM A PRELIMINARY STUDY. PAPER PRESENTED AT THE INCOMT 2005: MANAGING FUTURE WORKPLACE ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN THE BORDERLESS WORLD. SHAH ALAM, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA ] ---------> With the advent of the Internet a new phenomenon has emerged. This new phenomenon has been coined as "cyber loafing". This study looks at the usage of the Internet for personal use during office hours. The study also hopes to establish whether this unauthorized usages leads to work inefficiency. A sample of 126 employees from the Penang Free Trade Zone area was conveniently selected to respond to a structured questionnaire. As this is only a preliminary study, a proper sampling frame was deemed not necessary. The purpose of the study was to get a feel of the current situation before proceeding on a larger scale. The results indicate that the problem of personal web use during office hours is prevalent and this leads to work inefficiency. The personal web use was divided into 4 categories (personal downloading, personal information research, personal communication and personal e-commerce). The regression results indicate that 3 of the usage are positively related to work inefficiency. Personal download (Beta = 0.321, p< 0.01 ), personal information research (Beta = 0.319, p< 0.01 ), personal communication (Beta = 0.038, p> 0.05) and personal e-commerce (Beta= 0.194, p< 0.05). This finding empirically confirms the previous notion that personal web usage leads to work inefficiency. The research also shows gross ignorance on the part of the employees about what is acceptable and what is not. The employers have to embark on a campaign to educate the employees on the policy of acceptable use in their respective companies to arrest this phenomenon.

The powerful of Internet has changed the world. The successful story from Amazon.com has encouraged some business owners to switch their business model to e-business model. In year 1997, Malaysia's government allocated some budget to setup Internet infrastructure and introduce Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) to public. The main objective is to transform current practice to service based platform, and to attract world class companies while grooming local Internet communication technologies (ICT) companies. Besides that, the government had put efforts to increase Internet user population such as taxes deduction for family who purchase computers, educate the public the importance of master Internet technologies. After a decade of implementation, the e-Commerce adoption response from the Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) still do not reach the considerable level, based on Association Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industries of Malaysia SME's survey it shows 28% of the respondents ...

The utilization of accounting information systems technology (AIS) allows micro small medium enterprises (MSMEs) to become competitive. Even though MSMEs have resources limitation, they can utilize the essential advantages of AIS through cloud computing. This paper proposes a conceptual model that influences an intention to adopt cloud accounting (ITAC) among MSMEs by using constructs that had been investigated in a preliminary study and aligned with such literature of the existing technology adoption theory. The theory of TAM-TOE is integrated by involving variables such as the cloud computing characteristic (CA), organizational readiness (OR), mimetic pressure (MP), government intervention (GI), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and perceived usefulness (PU) of MSMEs owner-managers on the cloud accounting. Based on a pre-testing study through a survey of MSMEs in Indonesia, the result shows the validity and reliability of scale measurement and supports its potential for a fullscale st...

An information system (IS) is a combination of people, hardware, sof tware, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination, and decision making in an organization. IS plays crucial role as a main backbone for an organization to smoothen the business processes. In Malaysian publi c sector setting, IS are implemented at all department and organization and the question has arise; what is our state of IS currently in public sector organization? Is it success or failure? Continuous monitoring is not a guarantee the success of an IS, but more towards sustaining good IS services provided to IS users. The answer whether an IS is success or failure relies on IS users’ hand since this group of people works directly with IS. This paper proposed two independent variables; user satisfaction and usability to investigate relationship between the current state of IS in Malaysian public sector. This study also targeted operational level worker who using ...

Most Malaysian health centers still apply a paper-based vaccination system to save a record of the vaccination milestones of infants, and to remind their parents to bring them to health centers for immunization. The current system causes massive workloads on nurses declining their efficiency in the workplace. Therefore, this study proposes an SMS-based vaccination reminder and management system called Virtual Health Connect (VHC) to assist the health centers by simplifying the management of infants’ immunization records. This study aims to realize influential factors of intention to use VHC among Malaysian health centers by considering the technology acceptance model (TAM) as an underlying theory. The proposed model will be verified using data collected from self-directed questionnaires answered by nurses working in Malaysian government hospitals and government clinics. A research method based on the multi-analytical approach of Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) and Artificial Neur...

In the recent years, evaluating the effectiveness of Web-based Information System (WBIS) is increasingly needed as it highly contributes to organizations, particularly on the employee task performance. This study is one of the fewest in Palestine in the field of WBIS assessment in which the effectiveness of WBIS is conceptualized and assessed in terms of employee task performance. It aims at investigating the effects of quality factors: service quality and information quality on the employee task performance. The data of the pilot study is collected from 39 of WBIS users in UNRWA. In the context of statistical inferential and analytical tests, correlation and regression analysis are used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that there are strong correlations between service quality, information quality and employee performance. Also, the findings indicate there are significant relationships between study factors. Therefore, it is expected that this study would contribute to em...

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND ITS APPLICATION, VOL (11), NO. 12, PP11-28, ISSN: 1738-9984.] ----------> SOSE is gaining popularity in both industries and research communities due to its numerous benefits such as agility, loose-coupling, flexibility, heterogeneity, etc. However, despite knowledge of these benefits, its adoption is slowed by security challenge as a result of unavoidable mediators and there is no guarantee that these intermediaries will not either intentionally or unintentionally abuse transmitted data. Furthermore, the transport layer security (TLS) used to secure applications in software engineering can only secure point-to-point connections. On the contrary, SOSE systems requires end-to end security. Consequently, the problem for this study is inadequate security for SOSE systems. The aim of this study is to propose a security framework for an end-to-end security for SOSE systems. This aim was achieved by security policy framework to achieve the security goals of SOSE systems. The security goals in the framework used centralized authentication for generating key pairs for communicating parties in the SOSE systems. Hybrid encryption technique, which combines AES symmetric encryption to encrypt the message content and RSA public keys encryption to encrypt the AES’s keys to achieve confidentiality goal. In addition, integrated digital signature with RSA achieved integrity and non-repudiation goals. The results has indicators for proper authentication, encryption and digital signature. Also, the running time of this policy based solution was faster than the TLS secured services. Ultimately, this solution used standard security mechanisms suitable for securing dynamic, opened and distributed systems particularly SOSE systems. Vehicle servicing and breakdown assistance are two major services for automotive industry. Breakdown cases could cause traffic congestion in urban areas where it may lead to undesirable situations for vehicle drivers. In order to overcome this problem, the challenges depend on the efficiency of the vendors to address the emergency cases quickly. We intend to introduce Automotive Servicing and Breakdown Assistance System (ASBAS) to solve the problems that are currently encountered by both vendors and consumers. This system is designed to overcome the hassle and to help both the consumers and vendors to reach out each other quickly and systematically. A survey was conducted to understand the impact of vendor factors on vendors’ intention to adopt ASBAS by piloting questionnaire to several vendors. The research proposed model has outlined four different independent variables. The variables were chosen based on the previous study on technology acceptance criteria. This independent variable has vital decision factors that lead to the system adoption rate. Based on the result of data analysis, it shows that Vehicle Breakdown Servicing Necessity (VBSN) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) have a positive impact on vendor’s intention to adopt the system. PEOU and VBSN factors become critical contribution in designing the system interface. The results of this study are related to other studies in case of important factors for intention to adopt IT systems. The findings of this study help IT enterprises to come out with innovative ASBAS to satisfy IT market.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are considered as the mainstay of any economy since they contribute towards employment and growth. However, although Malaysia is a fast developing country in South-East Asia [1], SMEs in manufacturing sector faces failures. Many studies have revealed that market orientation has positive impact on business performance. However, the literature is inconsistent; therefore, this article proposes to explore the effect of market orientation (MO) on manufacturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the moderating role of e-commerce on the relationship between the two constructs. This could help to enhance SME performance in manufacturing sector in Malaysia in order to avoid failure and maintain success. In addition, this study aims to enrich the literature concerning the effects of market orientation on SME success within the Malaysian context taking into consideration the moderating effect of e-commerce. To the best of the researcher knowledge, the current study is the first to examine such moderator on MO-performance relationship. Drawing upon resource based view theory, a research model is developed and need to be tested on manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia.

[INDEXING: SCOPUS].] ----------> It is important to highlight that a very little research has been conducted to examine the significance of the relationship between user satisfaction, communication and effectiveness in terms of contextual performance. For this purpose, this study is mainly concerned with the moderation effect of academic level as its variation affects the strength or the direction of a relationship between user satisfaction, communication and contextual performance. A sample of a total of 128 respondents was gathered in a reasonable scale empirical study in order to test the validity and reliability of the adapted study instrument as well as examine the significance of the moderation effect of academic level. The results of correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis showed that there are significant relationships between study factors, however, the relationship between academic level and contextual performance is insignificant. Also, the results of hierarchical regression indicated that academic level has a significant moderating role (Sig. < 0.05) on the relationship between user satisfaction and performance. In contrast, it is found that academic level has no moderating role on the relationship between communication quality and contextual performance. Therefore, the academic level could reverse or amplify the effect of user satisfaction on the employee interpersonal skills.

SOSE is a novel software development paradigm that results in flexible, loose-coupled and end-to-end applications. However, the adoption of this innovation is slowed by security challenge. Apparently, the use of only TLS (transport layer security) security technique for SOSE systems is inappropriate because it provides only point-to-point security support to the communicating parties. While, an end-to-end security mechanism is necessary to effectively secure SOSE applications. Consequently, this paper provides SNSM framework, a solution to SOSE security challenge by integrating many technologies including OASIS's web service security standard, W3C's XML digital signature and XML encryption standards into SOAP envelope to ensure end-to-end security at the message level. In the implementation of the framework, proxy service, a virtual service hosted in the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) was used to enforce security services as a Quality of service (QOS) requirement. The purpose of this paper is to explore the determinants for the user intention to use to web portals in Iraqi schools. Iraqi Schools portal provides a welcoming place whereby private schools can establish their information, activities, rule, regulation, and make a promotion of its business to Iraqi community. Further, it provides a new, secure and effective communication channel through SMS messaging and online information exchange. A survey of 171 questionnaires is conducted in order to explore the determinants that could influence the user’s intention to use the Iraqi school portal. The results show that the user’s intention to use Iraqi school portal is relatively high. Also, the results indicated that there are three variables influence the user’s intention to use, namely, perceived ease of use, attitude and subjective norm. Therefore, the proposed model will add to the empirical studies in the field of Web portal development and Web based system as a whole.

Business-to-Business (B2B) electronic commerce plays a tremendous role in nurturing the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in developed and developing countries. However, the growth of B2B e-commerce in developing nations remains at the early adoption stage. The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors that influence B2B e-commerce adoption in SMEs in a developing country. The current study employs the questionnaire survey technique to gather information from 245 manufacturing SMEs in Jordan. It uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to investigate the different factors that affect the intention to adopt or continue using B2B e-commerce. The study reveals that compatibility and outsourcing IT support have significant effects on the intention to continue using B2B e-commerce in Jordanian manufacturing SMEs. The implications of the findings are discussed.
