    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dampak Edmodo pada keseluruhan pemahaman membaca siswa, menemukan dampak Edmodo pada pemahaman membaca siswa pada beberapa aspek, menemukan respon siswa tentang penggunaan “Edmodo” dalam belajar bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam pemahaman membaca, dan menemukan pandangan orang tua siswa terhadap penggunaan “Edmodo” dalam mendukung belajar anak mereka. Populasi studi ini adalah siswa-siswi kelas sebelas SMKN 1 Kota Bengkulu, sebanyak dua kelas (TKJ 1 dan TKJ 2) menjadi sampel penelitian ini. Instrument terdiri atas tes membaca (dengan 50 pertanyaan) dan 2 set kuesioner – untuk siswa-siswi kelas ekperimen dan orang tua mereka (masing-masing terdiri atas 25 butir). Hasilnya, Edmodo memberikan dampak pada pemahaman membaca siswa secara keseluruhan. Akan tetapi, aplikasi online ini paling efektif untuk diterapkan pada aspek membaca untuk mencari informasi yang sederhana (SI) diantara yang lainnya, karena distribusi pertanyaan pada aspek ini adalah yang tertinggi. Selanjutnya, berkaitan dengan penggunaan aplikasi online ini, siswa sering merespon secara positif terhadap Edmodo dalam belajar bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam pemahaman membaca. Akan tetapi, orang tua siswa memandang berbeda. Mereka jarang memandang secara positif terhadap Edmodo untuk pembelajaran anak mereka.     Penelitian ini menganalisa argumen pada bagian pendahuluan dan diskusi dari Laporan Hasil Penelitian mahasiswa pascasarjana Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian menganalisa pola argument, dan untuk mengetahui jenis data yang digunakan untuk mendukung claim dari argumen dalam bagian Pendahuluan dan Bagian diskusi dari Journal Applied Lingusitic and Literature (JOALL) 2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (a) argument yang sering digunakan dalam bagian pendahuluan JOALL berpola semi-complete. (b) dalam bagian pembahasan argument yang sering digunakan juga berpola semi-complete. Dengan tambahan (c) ada lima jenis data yang digunakan penulis Journal Applied Lingusitic and Literature 2016 untuk mendukung claim dari argumennya yaitu, fakta, statistik, contoh, pendapat ahli, dan visualisasi data.     This research aimed at identifying the language learning strategies employed by the students in doing oral presentations and describing the factors that can influence students ability in doing oral presentation skills in enhancing their speaking skill. This descriptive research involved 24 third year students of English Education Study Program In Bengkulu University as the subject of the reseach. The data were obtained from a structured interview, videos recording of students’ oral presentations, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed and interpreted to see what language learning strategies commonly used by students in doing oral presentation and possible factors which can influence their skill in doing oral presentations. The results show that, first, the students employed a combination of direct and indirect strategies. However, a tendency among students to employ indirect strategies than the direct ones although the differences was not significant. Second, factors which contributed to students ability in doing oral presentation were teacher factor, student factor, IT support factor, learning experience factor, educational background factor, and parents’ role factor.

    Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi dengan menggunakan media film kartun di kelas VII B SMP Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 33 siswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan terdiri atas lembar observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Prosedur penelitian meliputi perencanaan tindakan, pelaksanaan tindakan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi menggunakan media film kartun mengalami peningkatan siswa terlihat antuasias dan termotivasi ketika diputarkan media film kartun. Ketuntasan belajar secara klasikal pada siklus I sebesar 33,3% dengan rata-rata sebesar 65. Pada siklus II ketuntasan belajar 81,82% dengan nilai rata-rata 75,07. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut ketuntasan belajar menulis teks eksplanasi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 48,5%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi dapat ditingkatkan dengan media film kartun pada kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu

    The purpose of the research is to promote students’ English mastery in order to prepare them in ASEAN Economic Community. This was accomplished through the following study objectives: (1) finding out language skills and knowledge needed Accounting Department students of University of Bengkulu, (2) developing teaching materials of English for Accounting based on Content Based Learning and, (3) investigating students’ perception towards the developed materials. The research was in the form of Research and Development to develop the product with the principle of English for Specific Purposes. The populations were 65 students of the Accounting Department of University of Bengkulu. The primary instrument was questionnaire, which comprised in need analysis and students’ perception. The questionnaire was divided into closedquestion and opened-question types. The data were analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics and were presented in charts and tables. English usage was very often found mostly in accounting operational terms, language instruction in accounting cases/quizzes, and theoretical accounting textbooks. The targets of the developed English materials consisted of vocabulary mastery in reading comprehension and speaking skill improvement. The developed teaching materials accommodate students’ needs and are compatible with students’ content mastery in accounting field. The students’ perception indicated the developed materials were oriented to students’ need, interesting and proven to be useful to solve the problem of lack of materials in English for Accounting.     Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan menulis puisi siswa kelas X.2 SMA Negeri 9 Lubuklinggau Tahun 2015/2016 melalui media lagu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu : (1) perencanaan, (2) pelaksanaan, (3) observasi, (4) refleksi. Data kualitatif diperoleh melalui observasi guru dan siswa, hasil wawancara. Data kuantitatif diperoleh dari hasil menulis puisi siswa. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat diambil suatu kesimpulan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kualitas hasil pembelajaran, (baik proses maupun hasil). Menulis puisi dengan media lagu dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa, meningkatkan motivasi siswa, dan kreativitas siswa dalam menulis puisi dengan proses pembelajaran menjadi menyenangkan. Peningkatan ketuntasan hasil belajar secara individual dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata mulai dari pratindakan sebesar 59,19 menjadi 67,74 pada siklus 1 pertemuan 1, peningkatan dari siklus 1 pertemuan 1 ke siklus 1 pertemuan 2 sebesar 77,26, dan dari siklus 1 pertemuan 2 ke siklus 2 menjadi 81.46.     Textbook is one of the teaching materials that can be used as media to implement the values of character education. The purpose of this study is to analyze the character values in reading passages and dialogues contained in English students books grade X, XI, XII published by Kemendiknas based on curriculum 2013. This study focuses on (1) the analysis of the values of character education contained in reading passages and dialogues, and (2) how teachers teach those character values to students. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative with content analysis method.     Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan menulis teks iklan kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. Kemampuan ini dilihat dari beberapa aspek, yaitu aspek menguraikan isi, mengorganisasikan struktur, persuasif, bahasa iklan, dan kerapian tulisan, setelah itu dinilai secara keseluruhan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini dalah seluruh siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu yang berjumlah 278 siswa, sedangkan sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 42 siswa yang dipilih secara acak dari jumlah populasi. The objectives of this research are to know the finding strategies used by the teachers in encouraging students to participate in English classroom interaction, the reasons of using them, and how the teachers use the strategies. A mix method was chosen in this particular research covering 21 English teachers in all Senior High Schools in Kepahiang.     Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kemampuan menulis teks ulasan film pendek Indonesia Masih Subuh siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 59 siswa diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik tes kemampuan menulis teks ulasan film pendek. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah statistik sederhana, menghitung frekuensi dan disajikan dalam tabel dan diagram. This is because Indonesian academics are not familiar with the appropriate rhetorical style of English research articles although they can write academic texts in English reasonably well. This study investigated the rhetorical problems experienced by Indonesian lecturers in social sciences and humanities when writing research articles for international journals. In this study, all sections (abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion) of research article drafts written by Indonesian academics were analysed based on their rhetorical styles following the models suggested by Swales (1990, 2004), Swales and Feak (2009), Lim (2006), and Peacock (2011).     Kurangnya minat guru dalam menulis sastra berdampak pada rendahnya kemampuan menulis siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan menumbuhkan minat dan kemampuan guru bahasa Indonesia dalam menulis puisi dengan tema “Pesona Bengkulu” melalui kegiatan pelatihan secara luring dan daring berbasis teknologi Xmind dan Whitboard.Fi. Adapun metode pengabdian, yaitu deskriptif kualitatif dengan Model APTE (Analisis kebutuhan, Pelatihan, Tindakan, dan Evaluasi). Pengabdian kepada masyarakat mampu meningkatkan kemampuan, kreatifitas, dan produktivitas cipta puisi bagi guru bahasa Indonesia di Provinsi Bengkulu. Peningkatan tersebut terlihat dari kemampuan pemahaman menulis puisi guru menjadi sangat baik (rata-rata 82) dan kemampuan menulis puisi menjadi baik (rata-rata 73.15).     This study investigates the most developed English skill throughout the implementation of student-made video project, as well as the students’ responses toward the project. The design of the study was survey research with the presented findings based on the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data. Closed-ended questionnaire was distributed to 31 students of Management class to obtain quantitative data, while qualitative data was gathered from semi-structured interview, group observations and group reports. Based on the analysis of the data, it was revealed that the most developed English skill during student-made video project is speaking. The students’ speaking particularly developed on the aspects of fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and confidence. Further, regarding the students’ responses toward the project, it can be inferred that although the students encountered some difficulties in running the project, they positively responded to this activity.     Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui penggunaan materi pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri Kota Bengkulu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu deskriptif.Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kuisioner.Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan peneliti dalam penelitian ini yaitu kuisioner. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan peneliti terdapat enam atau 75% guru menggunakan internet dalam mencari materi tambahan puisi dan drama. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode pre-eksperimental design dengan menggunakan intact-group comparison. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah deskripsi hasil tes kemampuan menulis teks anekdot kelas eksperimental (menggunakan media meme) dan kelas kontrol (tanpa media).     Tujuan penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bernegosiasi dengan menggunakan pendekatan komunikatif pada siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian ini berupa penelitian tindakan kelas. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu teknik observasi (pengamatan) dan tes lisan keterampilan berbicara. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X IPA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. Hasil penelitian menggunakan pendekatan komunikatif dapat meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa dalam keterampilan bernegosiasi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. Hal itu dilihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa yang meningkat, yaitu pada siklus I nilai rata-rata siswa 65,07, daya serap siswa 65,07%, dan ketuntasan belajar siswa 30,30%. Siklus II nilai rata-rata siswa 77,72, daya serap siswa 77,72%, dan ketuntasan belajar siswa 81,81%. Kata kunci: Kemampuan Bernegosiasi, Pendekatan Komunikatif.

    Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perbedaan keterampilan menyimak dengan menggunakan media audio siswa kelas X MIPA D SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu. Metode yang digunakan ialah penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain one-grop pretest-posttes. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan rumus t-test, menghasilkan t hitung 7,5758 dan t tabel 2,045, maka t hitung > t tabel sehingga terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil tes awal dengan hasil tes akhir pada siswa kelas X MIPA D. Untuk itu, keterampilan menyimak dengan menggunakan media audio menghasilkan nilai yang lebih baik.

The objective of this research was to investigate the authorial stances in English RA introductions written by Indonesia authors in the field of sciences (i.e. Biology, Physic and Chemistry). This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Thirty English research article introductions were included in the corpus in this study. The results show that two authorial stances: neutral and positive stances are found in the texts but no critical stance is used in the corpus of this research. The participants were the English teachers who teach English at SMPN 14 Kota Bengkulu. The data were collected  from  audio-recording and interviewing to the teachers. The results indicated that teachers used  inter-sentential code-mixing  more frequently than intra-sentential code-mixing.     This research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using teacher’s indirect feedback strategy for the first grade of SMAN1 Bengkulu Tengah in the 2016/2017 academic year. The subjects consisted of 30 students of Science Program. The research was conducted in two cycles, namely, each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. Before the first cycle, the researcher gave pre-assessment. The result showed that the students’ mean score was 44,00 in absolute range, or 60,00 in relative range (poor category). After implementing cycle one, the students’ mean score in writing skill showed a little progress, especially in content’s aspect. On other hand some students were still lacking in vocabulary and language use aspects. In the second cycle, the teacher and the researcher focused to gave the students materials of two aspects above.
