The Importance-Performance Analysis is a widely used diagnostic tool in many fields of economic activity, such as: transport, health, construction, public food industry, finance, banking, sustainable activities, etc. Despite its use for over 40 years in many economic and social fields, this tool has some important drawbacks that affect the accuracy of managerial decisions. Over time, many variants for improving the standard Importance-performance matrix have been proposed. The aim of our research is to propose a method to solve one of the biggest problems of the standard Importance-Performance Analysis, respectively a method of boosting confidence in the positioning of attributes in the matrix. We use a mathematical method, inspired by classification theory tools, to apply the nine categories division of attributes in the importance-performance plane. Moreover, we introduce a level of confidence in a nine categories Importance-performance matrix, which helps the practitioners to pri...

The addition of Generation Z/Centennials to the workplace landscape will bring about new challenges for the management of any organization. To tackle the changing work environment and workforce, we conducted a survey-based empirical exploratory study among students in economics from two universities located in the western part of Romania. Our study proposes an alternative view of the motivational potential, including the feeling of belonging to an organization in work settings. The aim was to explore the potential for the feeling of belonging to play the role of mediator between four distinct career attitudes and the turnover intention in the specific case of Romanian Generation Z members. Additionally, we investigated which variables are significant predictors for the feeling of belonging to an organization. The results indicate that is efficient to invest in creating belongingness for those Generation Z members inclined towards making moves between jobs and organizations (OMPA), f...

Although there has been significant change in the last few years, the Romanian en-detail trade is still quite far off from the one found in the EU and continues to have a slower evolution. Its scatterness, the preponderance of traditional trade and the early stage in which the e-commerce is found are characteristics of the en-detail trade system found now. This paper would like to be an analysis of the Romanian en-detail trade system in order to understand what the impact of EU adherence on the companies and the consumers in Romania would be.

According to last research in domain, youth unemployment rate has considerably increased interest in promoting entrepreneurship. Romania occupy a better position to the unemployment chapter (6.8%) than other states like France (with an unemployment rate of 10.3%), Poland (9%) or the Netherlands (7.4%), when it comes to youth situation becomes critical, one in four young people under 25 are unemployed. In 2015, youth unemployment rate in Romania was 24%, above the average of European Union countries, which was 22.2% (Eurostat, INS, 2015).In this context, students should be prepared to rediscover their potential to create their own job and to accept self-employment as a viable life program (Gibb, 1987, 1993, 2002; Hitty & O`Gorman, 2004). As studies shows, they tend to choose activities they enjoy and leave in the background, or the last moment those activities they are required to do.The study aims to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial potential of students with var...

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the critical factors responsible for the success of religious tourism in Romania, meaning a sustainable success. In the special case of religious tourism, this seems much easier to accomplish, but in Romania there is a lack of studies to show this. The research outcomes show that the critical/decisive/determinants success factors in religious tourism depends on: the attractiveness of the location, the avoidance of excessive exposure of the elements of the religious offer, the limitation of the commercial activity, and how participants behave. This paper is important, both for the assessment of religious tourism and for the possibility of the tourist destinations sustainable development strategy. The results of this research reveal that decisions should not be taken alone on the basis of a single set of factors, but that they should be taken together, taking into account all the factors involved. Also results ind...

The paper is the result of an empirical research, a study that includes a theoretical framework. The data used to test our hypotheses come from 60 small tourism firms from Bihor County, Romania. The research conducted has revealed that actions focusing on innovation must be based on a solid analysis, supported by the knowledge and the understanding of the contextual factors (environment, culture as a mental programming, values) also based on the organizational factors (the management commitment, systemic perspective, learning and practice of experimentation, rapid transfer of knowledge within the organization). For the purpose of this work, the contextual factors that are exogenous represent the shadow factors. The studies performed in three European projects implemented in tourism SMEs of Bihor County have allowed us to advance the idea that contextual and organizational factors, that are identified as the source of innovation are based on rationality, which is enlarged by affectiv...

City administrators have begun to consider citizens’ perception as an essential enabler of smart and sustainable city development. In response to their need, our study mainly aimed to analyze the citizens’ perceptions related to the attributes of a smart city and to offer an evidence-based importance–performance analysis (IPA) technique, revised with triangular number fuzzy, to set priorities to develop it further successfully, taking Oradea, Romania, as an example. Specifically, we investigated varying the citizens’ perceptions regarding the attributes of a smart city across the thematic content analysis followed by an IPA approach to identify the attributes of a smart city that could be expected to advance its future development. The results show that most of our respondents appreciated the city administrators’ efforts and expressed relatively higher preferences for the fifteen smart city attributes of Oradea on which the local authorities should focus. The research brings valuabl...

Economics Faculties faced with changes, widespread and unprecedented as whole society under the circumstances of economical crisis, as well as due of globalization. These latter being two of the reasons of seeking solutions to respond to adverse conditions that is manifested in the world. Seeing into each student/graduate/a future employee we have to teach them that learning mechanisms are in fact, attractive and creative processes. Thus, teaching them to be innovatively and creatively, we can contribute to preparation them for active life, with the possibility of changing assumed roles in any period of their future career. In our opinion, the practical internships contribute to intrinsic motivation (the need or desire to do) in a community, organization, group thereby it manifested diverse abilities, skills that are contextually interconnected by ideas and experiences. Today's student is tomorrow's employee. She should discover and develop her passion for the chosen specialization. This is an essential step for her performance in the future. Our work, as educators aims to identify how the economics faculties can and should adapt their educational offer, to provide graduates able to become employees, forming competent people, of character, responsible, and last but not least, creatively, all these features, being the own portrait of an ideal employee, pretty desired and searched in the labour market. Some issues that this paper aims to examine and present are potentially most effective ways of learning, with practical results of the internship, to adapt to future labour and employee characteristics (creative employee). This undertaking is based on the results obtained within the framework of project “Practical training of economist’s students. Inter-regional partnership in the labour market between universities and the business environment” acronym (PRACTeam) that was focuses on student’s transition from school to labour market.

The purposed longitudinal study analyzes the evolution of students’ Entrepreneurial Intentions (EI) and its antecedents over the COVID-19 pandemic period and explores the inter-individual differences and the intra-individual changes. Our main contribution consists of proposing two-panel estimations techniques: first, a Latent Change Score model (LCS) approach to analyze the stability of our constructs, and second, a Generalized Least Squares (GLS) Random-Effect estimation of a complex network of relationships that we have identified within the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. Our empirical results show that students’ EI enrolled in an entrepreneurship education (EE) program increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals with initial higher scores for EI have changed less than those with lower initial scores, and a gender difference exists in the initial level of EI and its antecedents. Our results also document the moderation effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy ...

The present paper presents findings of entrepreneurial intentions of a group of 313 undergraduate students of the University of Oradea, Romania, from different non-economic fields of study (engineering, health, social sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, humanities, and arts), including students from rural areas and other disadvantaged groups enrolled in an entrepreneurship education project financed through European Social Fund. A complex mediation chain is set in place in a net of relationships linking the benefits of entrepreneurial education to entrepreneurship self-efficacy, entrepreneurship attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms in our estimation of entrepreneurial intentions. Using a multigroup analysis, we address the OECD inclusive entrepreneurship perspective of students ‘at-risk’ on the labor market and under-represented in entrepreneurship, identifying how the benefits of entrepreneurship education can be better capitalized by each category. Economic growth is the mandate of the global economy and with our planet’s population poised to reach 10 billion people, economists are searching for sustainable economic growth approaches that do not increase raw materials consumption nor deplete and damage our environment. This mandate is the heart of the Circular Economy (CE), a challenge to theoreticians and practitioners alike to continue global economic growth, but with fewer resources and protective methods for our environment. The European Union (EU) economies were early adopters of CE and are now demanding similar adoptions from its recently integrated members from the East. Romania is one of the laggard states in this transition, given its heritage and lack of economic sophistication. Our paper identifies the practices and performance of Romanian producers regarding the implementation of the CE principles, so future recommendations can be formulated. In surveying the Romanian firms, we applied a cluster analysis based on t...
