Objective: Low birth weight (LBW) is a public health problem strongly associated with infant mortality. This study aimed to identify the spatial distribution of infant mortality in newborns with LBW (750–2,500 g) at term (≥37 weeks of gestation), due to their being small for gestational age, analyzing its association with mother-related determinants, as well as to identify priority areas of mortality in the State of São Paulo, 2010–2019. Methods: Infant mortality rate was analyzed in the division of neonatal mortality and postneonatal mortality of newborns with LBW at term. The empirical Bayesian method smoothed the rates, the univariate Moran index was used to measure the degree of spatial association between the municipalities, and the bivariate Moran index was employed to identify the existence of a spatial association between the rates and the selected determinants. Thematic maps of excess risk and local Moran were prepared to identify spatial clusters, adopting 5% as a signific...

In many practical situations, it is important to evaluate the relationships between the factors that compose an industrial process and their effects on one or more response variables that are of interest to an enterprise. The main contribution of this present study is to propose a new conceptual hybrid framework based on the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Im- prove, and Control) methodological structure, to optimize complex experimental problems with multiple responses. This procedure combines Response Surface Methodology, with the Desirability (D), Modified Desirability (MD), Compromise Programming (CP) functions, with Generalized Reduced Gradient (GRG) and Evolutionary Algorithms (EA). We made real application to a glass lamination process case study to describe how to use the proposed framework. The procedure allowed several configurations to be tested involving the D, MD and CP functions, adopting the GRD and EV, to optimize the studied industrial process. The best configurati...

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate a practical application of control charts in an industrial process that has data auto-correlated with each other. Although the control charts created by Walter A. Shewhart are very effective in monitoring processes, there are very important statistical assumptions for Shewhart's control charts to be applied correctly. Choosing the correct Control Chart is essential for managers to be able to make coherent decisions within companies. With this study, it was possible to demonstrate that the original data collected in the process, which at first appeared to have many special causes of variation, was actually a stable process (no anomalies present). However, this finding required the use of autoregressive models, multivariate statistics, autocorrelation and normality tests, multicollinearity analysis and the use of the EWMA control chart. It was concluded that it is of fundamental importance to choose the appropriate control chart for mo...

This article aims to present an industrial internship mentoring model for undergraduate industrial engineering education in publicuniversities. The study proposed that the constructs of ‘‘mentoring’’ and ‘‘industrial engineering education’’ can be combined in order to develop a model for teaching. Its reliability has been confirmed by Cronbach’scoefficient test, whereas the statisticalhypothesis test has confirmed the validity of the model according to the opinion of 52 pairs of mentors and mentees participatingin this applied research with a qualitative methodological approach using a combination of case study and survey. Regardingresults, 85% of mentees stated that the model had made a significant positive difference during their internship period, whilementors confirmed that 98% of mentees developed industrial engineering skills and abilities. Thus, the model relies on a detailedprocedure about the content that should be assessed in each phase. Its major contribution lies in its ...

This paper presents a new hybrid decision-making support method (New Hesitant Fuzzy AHP-QFD-PROMETHEE II Method), which jointly uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and the Preference Ranking Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE II), as well as the Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Sets (HFLTS) to capture hesitation and aggregate divergent opinions from different experts. A real application of the new method to a packaging design selection problem for an automotive company is described, finding that AHP assisted in determining the importance of QFD’s customer requirements (CRs) and PROMETHEE II was used to select the best packaging design. With this same problem, for the purpose of validating the proposed method, a comparative analysis was made with the use of the Hesitant Fuzzy AHP-QFD-TOPSIS method and also with the traditional AHP-QFD-PROMETHEE method, which makes it impossible to capture the hesitation of decision makers. The resul...

Abstract Organization and planning of reverse logistics networks make sustainable processes more efficient. Thus, an important sector for connecting the collection and waste paper recycling echelons is the intermediate center. In this study, a Mixed Integer Linear Programming model, which is multi-objective, multi-product, multi-level and multi-period, was developed to optimize the waste paper logistics processes of intermediate centers. The formulation includes the following echelons: collection, considering vehicle routing with different capacities; inventory of non-baling materials; baling sorted waste and inventory of bales; selling bales; disposal of non-recyclable waste. The aims of the model include: maximizing the collected waste; minimizing distances; maximizing both the production and sale of bales, and minimizing costs. According to research carried out in the literature, the developed model is a new proposal and to implement it, the Weighted Goal Programming and Revised Multi-Choice Goal Programming approaches were used to deal with multiple objectives and incorporate uncertainty into the quantity of waste available for collection. To analyze the proposed model, computational tests were executed with instances based on real data from a Brazilian company in the sector. For all performed tests, General Algebraic Modeling System 23.6.5 modeling language and CPLEX 12.2.0.2 solver were used for modeling and optimization. The results show that this study presents formulation and technological approaches that represent real situations and provide competitive solutions to the problem.

ABSTRACT To identify the relationship between leadership and knowledge management (KM) reported in academic publications, a systematic review of the articles contained in the Web of Science platform from 1996 to 2019 was carried out. The information obtained clarifies the relevance of the theme and the ideas described lead to results supported by studies on the competence of the leader and organizational psychology that confirm the relationship between the constructs. The conclusion presents an agenda for future studies, in order to fill the gaps identified by the diagnosis of the research questions and with the possibility of describing, through a more detailed analysis, the characteristics of the leaders associated with the KM process that allowed to present the profile of the leader in that context. The results can contribute as a practical guide in the management of human resources, providing benefits to organizations that work with KM.

In 2010, the legislation regarding the Brazilian Policy of Solid Waste (BPSW) was introduced in Brazil. It is the legal framework for solid waste management that differentiates what is recyclable and from what is not. The BPSW features innovations such as Reverse Logistics (RL) which determines that manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers must perform the collection of used packaging and products like batteries, light bulbs, electronics, etc. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework that helps indicating which would be, among the National Collective and Clearing House models used in European countries, the most suitable scheme for reverse logistics of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) according to the Brazilian reality. For this purpose, the paper analyses the existing literature and various relevant practices used in Europe. Moreover, data regarding the Brazilian environmental legislation and the characteristics of each state were used to evaluate the possible use of the European reverse logistics models. The framework helps to define the Brazilian case in three stages and suggests that the most suitable model for Brazil is the National Collective. This decision is urgent since it has been proposed that many European countries should also implement this model instead of the currently employed. Finally, a structured framework is proposed, facilitating the decision-making process to be carried out by various stakeholders such as the Brazilian Federal Government, municipal authorities, industries, recyclers and service providers. In this way, the WEEE management and logistics organization would be easier in the Brazilian territory.

Environmental issues have changed the behavior of society and, consequently, the business environment. This has narrow approach with Knowledge Management techniques (KM) to promote their processes. However, despite the increase in research in this field, there is still lack of further study in the KM interface and the business environment, as suggested by several researchers. This work, in particular, seeks to identify the main gaps in the literature involving KM and Reverse Logistics (LR), and propose relevant studies and hitherto insufficiently treated in the literature. For this 8.682 references were analyzed and these only 37 deal with such interface. So this paper proposes 6 topics to be researched.

Since the 1950s, the Brazilian automotive sector has been supported by different public policies until the present day. Despite the importance of the Brazilian automotive industry in the national and global scene, there is no concrete empirical research that correlates with the different public policies have shaped the progress of this sector in the country. Thus, this paper aims to evaluate how the different public policies contributed to the development of the Brazilian automotive sector. To capture those impacts, it is necessary to develop a methodological approach supported by a systematic review of the literature and research some specific indicators that will allow measuring the results. The results indicate that each of the public policies contributed different mechanisms for the redefinition of local strategies for the development of products, investments in technologies and innovation and the installation of new automakers in Brazil. The main limitations of the research are...

ABSTRACT Reverse Logistics activities are practiced by most Brazilian companies. However, a relevant problem is to identify how different Reverse Logistics programs can affect corporate performance indicators. Analytic Network Process is one of the analytical tools, which can be used to handle a multi-criteria decision-making problem and it is the only one that can capture the interdependencies between the criteria under consideration. This method was adopted here to study the influence of Reverse Logistics practices in corporate performance. Preliminary results indicated that the method can be used, reaching a result compatible to the reality of the Brazilian companies.
