Silica-grafted n-propyl-diaza-15-crown-5 (SGPDC) with immobilized palladium nanoparticles was found as an efficient heterogeneous catalytic system for the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions and satisfied results were obtained. Different derivatives of aryl halides and alkenes under the Heck reaction were converted to the corresponding products with good efficiency. The presence of electron-donating groups on the aryl moiety of aryl halide derivatives retarded the reaction and led to the drop of yields. In contrast, higher efficiency was observed when electron-withdrawing groups were accommodated on the aryl halide. As well as, a variety of bi-phenyl derivatives were well synthesized by the coupling reaction between aryl halides and aryl boronic acids derivatives via the Suzuki reaction. Reusability of the catalyst was examined in both Heck and Suzuki reactions under optimized conditions. The catalyst could be recycled several times without any treatment in its catalytic activity. ABSTRACT An efficient heterogeneous Pd catalytic system has been developed, based on immobilization of Pd nanoparticles (PNPs) on a silica-bonded N-propylpiperazine (SBNPP) substrate. The SBNPP substrate effectively stabilizes the PNPs and improves their stability against aggregation. The catalytic activity of this catalyst was investigated in the cyanation of aryl halides with K-4[Fe(CN)(6)] as the cyanide source. The catalyst could be recycled several times without appreciable loss of catalytic activity.

The proposed research describes the application of cloud point extraction (CPE) methodology for the preconcentration of ultra-trace amounts of Cu 2+, Co 2+, Zn 2+, and Mn 2+ ions prior to their determination. In this technique, non-ionic surfactant Triton X-114 in the presence of (2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole) (PBI) as chelating agent has been applied, and influence of variables that affect the CPE efficiency and FAAS signal were optimized. Carrying out pre-concentration with 15 ml sample solution allowed to achieve a pre-concentration factor of 30, and enhancement factors of 33, 38, 28 and 25 for Cu 2+, Zn 2+, Co 2+ and Mn 2+ ions, respectively. The calibration graph using the pre-concentration system was linear in the range of 0.01-0.25 μg ml -1 for Cu 2+ions, 0.01-0.21 μg ml -1 for Zn 2+, 0.015-0.28 μg ml -1 for Co 2+ and 0.015-0.31 μg ml -1for Mn 2+ ions, with correlation coefficients of 0.998-0.999. ABSTRACT A simple and efficient procedure for the preparation of silica-bound N-propyl triethylenetetramine sulfamic acid (SBPTETSA) by the reaction of silica-bound N-propyl triethylenetetramine (SBPTET) with chlorosulfonic acid in chloroform is described. Silica-bound N-propyl triethylenetetramine sulfamic acid was employed as a recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of 2-amino-4,6-diarylnicotinonitriles from the multi-component reaction of an acetophenone derivative, an aromatic aldehyde, malononitrile, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions at 100°C. The heterogeneous catalyst was recycled for five consecutive runs in the optimized multi-component reaction of 4-chloroacetophenone, 4-chloroenzaldehyde, malononitrile, and ammonium acetate without significant loses to its catalytic activity.

Bis((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2yl)methyl)sulfane (BHIS) was used as a complexing agent in cloud point extraction for the first time and applied for selective pre-concentration of trace amounts of silver. The method is based on the extraction of silver at pH 8.0 by using non-ionic surfactant T-X114 and bis((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2yl)methyl)sulfane as a chelating agent. The adopted concentrations for BHIS, Triton X-114 and HNO3, bath temperature, centrifuge rate and time were optimized. Detection limits (3SDb/m) of 1.7 along with enrichment factor of 39 for silver ion was achieved. The high efficiency of cloud point extraction to carry out the determination of analytes in complex matrices was demonstrated. The proposed method was successfully applied to the ultra-trace determination of silver in real samples.

The regioselective ring-opening reactions of some epoxides with ammonium thiocyanate in the presence of a series of new phenol-containing macrocyclic diamides and also dibenzo-18-crown-6-, 18-crown-6-, benzo-15-crown-5-, and pyridine-containing macrocyclic diamide have been studied. The epoxides were subject to cleavage by NH(4)SCN in the presence of these catalysts under mild reaction conditions in various aprotic solvents. In this study, reagents and conditions have been discovered with which the individual beta-hydroxy thiocyanates can be synthesized in high yield and with more than 90% regioselectivity. The results can be discussed in terms of a four-step mechanism: (1) formation of complex between catalyst and NH(4)SCN, (2) release of SCN(-) nucleophile from the complex, (3) reaction of the active nucleophile at the less sterically hindered site in the epoxide, and (4) regeneration of catalyst. The major advantages of this method are as follows: (1) high regioselectivity, (2) simple regeneration of catalyst, (3) its reuse through several cycles without a decrease in activity, and (4) ease of workup of the reaction.

A new and efficient solid phase extraction method is described for the preconcentration of trace heavy metal ions. The method is based on the adsorption of Fe(3+), Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) on 2-phenyl-1H-benzo[d] imidazole (PHBI) loaded on Triton X-100-coated polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The influences of the analytical parameters including pH and sample volume were investigated. Common coexisting ions did not interfere on the separation and determination of analytes under study. The adsorbed analytes were desorbed by using 5 mL of 4 mol L(-1) nitric acid. The preconcentration factor is 90. The detection limits (3 sigma) were in the range of 0.95-1 microg L(-1). The sorbent exhibited excellent stability and its sorption capacity under optimum conditions has been found to be more than 2.7 mg of ions per gram of sorbent. The recoveries of analytes were generally higher than 95%. The relative standard deviations (R.S.D.s) were generally lower than 4%. The method has been successfully applied to some real samples.

A cloud point extraction procedure for the preconcentration of Pb2+ in various samples following complexation with 2,2-(1E,1′E)-1,1′-(2,2′-azanediylbis(ethane-2,1-diyl)bis(azan-1-yl-1-ylidene)) bis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene)diphenol in Triton X-114 after centrifugation is reported. A 0.5 mL portion of methanol acidified with 1.0 M HNO3 was added to the surfactant-rich phase prior to analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The influence of analytical parameters—including pH, concentrations of ligand, Triton X-114, and HNO3, bath temperature, heating time, and centrifugation rate and time—were optimized, and the effect of the matrix ions on the recovery of Pb2+ was investigated. An LOD of 1.9 ng/mL along with a preconcentration factor of 50 with RSD of 1.0% for Pb2+ were achieved. The proposed procedure was applied to the analysis of various real samples.

An efficient enrichment procedure based on the combination of flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) and flotation for determination of Cd2+, Ag+ and Zn2+ ions in various biological samples using new collector is studied. The influence of pH, amount of 2-(((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methoxy)methyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (HBIMMHBI) as collector, sample matrix, type and amount of eluting agent, type and amount of surfactant as floating agent, ionic strength and air flow rates on the extraction efficiency were evaluated and optimized. It is ascertained that under study metal ions is preconcentrated simultaneously from matrix in the presence of 0.005 M HBIMMHBI, 0.085% (w/v) of SDS form 750 mL at pH 6.5. The floated complexes metal ions eluted quantitatively with 6 mL of 1.0 M HNO3 in methanol lead to achieve preconcentration factor of 125. The detection limits for analyte ions were in the range of 1.3–2.4 ng mL-1, with recoveries more than 95% and relative SD lower than 4%.

A cloud point extraction procedure for the preconcentration of copper, nickel, iron and zinc ions in various samples has been described. Analyte ions in aqueous phase are complexed with 3-((indolin-3-yl)(phenyl)methyl)indoline (IYPMI) and following centrifugation quantitatively extracted to the aqueous phase rich in Triton X-114. The surfactant-rich phase was dissolved in 2.0 mol L−1 HNO3 in methanol prior to metal content determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The effects of some parameters including, the concentrations of IYPMI, Triton X-114 and HNO3, bath temperature, centrifuge rate and time were investigated on the recoveries of analyte ions. At optimum conditions, the detection limits of (3 SDb m−1) of 1.6, 2.8, 2.1 and 1.1 ng mL−1 for Cu2+, Fe3+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ along with preconcentration factors of 30 and enrichment factor of 48, 39, 34 and 52 for Cu2+, Ni2+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ respectively, were obtained. The proposed cloud point extraction has been success...

ABSTRACT We describe a simple and efficient procedure for the preparation of sulfuric acid ([3-(3-silicapropyl)sulfanyl]propyl)ester (3) by the reaction of 3-(thio(propy-3-yl)silica)-propanol (2) and chlorosulfonic acid in chloroform. 3-(Thio(propy-3-yl)silica)-propanol was prepared by the reaction of 3-mercaptopropylsilica (MPS) with 3-chloropropanol in refluxing toluene. This solid sulfuric acid ([3-(3-silicapropyl)sulfanyl]propyl)ester is employed as a new catalyst for the formylation of alcohols with ethyl formate under mild and heterogeneous conditions at room temperature with good to excellent yields. Also, 3 can catalyze the acetylation of various alcohols by the reaction of alcohols with ethyl acetate under reflux conditions or with acetic anhydride at room temperature.
