ABSTRACT Treatment failure is a major cause of concern for the Helicobacter pylori-related gastroduodenal diseases like gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric cancer. The antibacterial activity of Paederia foetida against few clinical isolates of H. pylori in vitro was examined. The MIC of P. foetida is µg/ml, showing its effectiveness in inhibiting H. pylori growth in vitro irrespective of the genetic makeup of the strains. This study provides novel insights into the therapeutic effect of P. foetida against H. pylori infection, suggesting its potential as an alternative therapy, and opens the way for further studies on identification of novel antimicrobial targets of P. foetida.

ABSTRACT A new series of Benzylidine Rhodanine (b) have been synthesized by reaction of Rhodanine (a) and aromatic aldehydes which upon O-alkylation with different chloro- acetamides (c1- 4) form the final derivatives (d1- 4). The physical and spectral data of synthesized compounds are determined. The synthesized compounds have been screened for their anti-convulsant activity by MES method.

The Coal Bed Methane (CBM), a dreadful mining hazard, became eco-friendly clean gas for the third world country when humanity is facing challenges against pollution and energy crisis. It is observed from the studies that the Korba and Ib valley coals have potential for CBM exploration whereas Umaria coals have negligible potential. Though, the Sohagpur coalfields (east of Umaria coalfield) have ample scope of CBM exploration. In the absence of enough desorption data on gas content, the in situ gas content has been determined here following the theoretical interpretation of adsorption curve, taking into account of the moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, depth of coal bed and the geothermal gradient. Data generation on gas content, gas saturation and gas sorption characteristics is vital for better definition of high quality coal prospects.

Effective task-shifting interventions targeted at reducing the global cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemic in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) are urgently needed. DISHA is a cluster randomised controlled trial conducted across 10 sites (5 in phase 1 and 5 in phase 2) in India in 120 clusters. At each site, 12 clusters were randomly selected from a district. A cluster is defined as a small village with 250-300 households and well defined geographical boundaries. They were then randomly allocated to intervention and control clusters in a 1:1 allocation sequence. If any of the intervention and control clusters were <10 km apart, one was dropped and replaced with another randomly selected cluster from the same district. We report on the synthesis and single crystal growth and characterization of a new class of S=1/2 linear chain Heisenberg system. The compounds are peroxychromates of sodium and potassium, K_3-xNa_xCrO_8. These compounds are based on Cr in its pentavalent oxidation state, with the unpaired electron in the 3d_x^2-y^2 or 3d_z^2 orbitals. Magnetic susceptibility measurements exhibit a rounded peak around 2.2K for K_2NaCrO8 and 3.8K for Na_3CrO_8. The magnetic susceptibility data will be discussed in relationship to specific heat measurements and low-field (X-band) EPR measurements. It is concluded that the peroxychromates are good model compounds for understanding the general properties of linear chain Heisenberg systems.

We have described two novel implantation serine proteinase (ISP) genes that are expressed during the implantation period. The ISP1 gene may encode the embryo-derived enzyme strypsin, which is necessary for blastocyst hatching in vitro and the initiation of invasion. The ISP2 gene, which encodes a related tryptase, is expressed in endometrial glands and is regulated by progesterone during the peri-implantation period. Based on similarities between ISP2 gene expression and that of a progesterone-regulated lumenal serine proteinase activity associated with lysis of the zona pellucida, we have suggested that the strypsin related protein, ISP2, may encode a zona lysin proteinase. Recently strypsin has also been found within uterine fluid, suggesting a second potential role in hatching. Consistently, we have discovered that ISP1 is also expressed in the uterine secretory gland at the time of hatching. In this study we demonstrate that both ISP1 and ISP2 are secreted together into the uterine lumen at peri-implantation, and that the appearance of ISP protein is regulated positively at the transcriptional level by progesterone and negatively at the posttranscriptional level by estrogen. This negative regulation by estrogen may be overridden in pregnancy as ISP protein expression is restored during oil-induced decidualization. ISP1 and ISP2 proteins are also expressed in proestrous suggesting additional roles in the endometrial cycle.

Screw-press oil recovery, residual oil, pressing rate, and oil sediment content were measured for uncooked crambe seed and crambe seed cooked at 100C for 10 min, pressed at six moisture contents ranging from 9.2 to 3.6% dry basis.
