<sec> <title>BACKGROUND</title> <p>eHealth interventions are becoming increasingly used in public health, with virtual reality (VR) being one of the most exciting recent developments. VR consists of a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment viewed through a head-mounted display. This medium has provided new possibilities to adapt problematic behaviors that affect mental health. VR is no longer unaffordable for individuals, and with mobile phone technology being able to track movements and project images through mobile head-mounted devices, VR is now a mobile tool that can be used at work, home, or on the move.</p> </sec> <sec> <title>OBJECTIVE</title> <p>In line with recent advances in technology, in this review, we aimed to critically assess the current state of research surrounding mental health.</p> </sec> <sec> <title>METHODS</title> <p>We compiled a table of 82 studies that made use of head-mounted devices in their interventions.</p> </sec> <sec> <title>RESULTS</title> <p>Our review demonstrated that VR is effective in provoking realistic reactions to feared stimuli, particularly for anxiety; moreover, it proved that the immersive nature of VR is an ideal fit for the management of pain. However, the lack of studies surrounding depression and stress highlight the literature gaps that still exist.</p> </sec> <sec> <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> <p>Virtual environments that promote positive stimuli combined with health knowledge could prove to be a valuable tool for public health and mental health. The current state of research highlights the importance of the nature and content of VR interventions for improved mental health. While future research should look to incorporate more mobile forms of VR, a more rigorous reporting of VR and computer hardware and software may help us understand the relationship (if any) between increased specifications and the efficacy of treatment.</p> </sec>

In the present book, fifteen typical literatures about Virtual Reality Applied Technology published on international authoritative journals were selected to introduce the worldwide newest progress, which contains reviews or original researches on Medical application, civil application, ect. Abstract Objective The objective of this review is to identify enabling and inhibiting factors for mHealth adoption in low resource settings, by giving emphasis on the stakeholders representing the caregiving side. Another objective of this study is to support implementation agencies (governmental and non-governmental) in designing scalable mHealth interventions. Methods A PEO (Population, Exposure, Outcome) approach was used to formulate the review question. A pre-defined search strategy was implemented; Google Scholar, PubMed and gray literature were searched using alternate terms for “mHealth”, “adoption” and “developing countries”. CASP [7] tools were used to assess the quality of selected evidence. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria on search results and critical appraisal of the selected evidence, twelve studies were selected for the review. Results Adoption factors operated at the levels of organization, facility-based service provider and frontline health worker. Engagement of end users during design phase, informed clinical decision making, utilization of mHealth evidence, employers’ tolerance of some personal use of devices, automation of tasks and user-friendliness of application are key enabling factors for mHealth adoption in developing countries. On the contrary, absence of national policy on mHealth, poor knowledge base on mHealth, using two systems in parallel, duplication of efforts, poor Internet connectivity and shortage of electricity are important inhibiting factors for mHealth adoption. Conclusions The review provides an insight about the challenges and opportunities related to mHealth adoption in developing countries. Implementation agencies should give careful consideration to these factors before designing and deploying any mHealth-enabled intervention. It is also important to understand the concept of incremental innovation so that resources spent on pilot interventions are optimized and full potential is achieved.

3D virtual worlds are becoming widespread due to cheaper powerful computers, high-speed broadband connections and efforts towards their tighter integration with current 2D Web environments. Besides traditional gaming and entertainment applications, some serious propositions are starting to emerge for their use, particularly in education, where they are perceived as enablers of active learning, learning by doing, and knowledge construction through social interaction. However, there is still little understanding of how 3D virtual worlds can be designed and deployed effectively in the education domain, and many challenges remain. This chapter makes a contribution towards such an understanding by reporting on three notable case studies at the authors’ own institutions, which have pioneered the use of Second Life, a 3D virtual world, in higher education.

Generative AI (artificial intelligence) refers to algorithms and models, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, that can be prompted to generate various types of content. In this narrative review, we present a selection of representative examples of generative AI applications in medicine and healthcare. We then briefly discuss some associated issues, such as trust, veracity, clinical safety and reliability, privacy, copyrights, ownership, and opportunities, e.g., AI-driven conversational user interfaces for friendlier human-computer interaction. We conclude that generative AI will play an increasingly important role in medicine and healthcare as it further evolves and gets better tailored to the unique settings and requirements of the medical domain and as the laws, policies and regulatory frameworks surrounding its use start taking shape.

Many information needs arise during everyday clinical practice. Problem to knowledge linking aims to answer these needs by providing contextually appropriate medical knowledge in the right place and at the right time. Empirical evidence shows that well-informed physicians and patients are able to make better clinical decisions that positively affect healthcare outcomes. This paper reports on the design and development of a re-usable and flexible Semantic Web problem to knowledge linking service. The service makes use of metadata and clinical codes contextually to link disparate Electronic Patient Record clients to resources in an online medical knowledge service (HealthCyberMap). Clinical codes act as crisp knowledge hooks, providing a reliable common backbone language for communication between Electronic Patient Records and HealthCyberMap. Ideas to improve the service are also discussed. By minimizing irrelevant leads (noise) and reducing the time needed to find relevant information (the right contextually relevant knowledge is linked to real patient data in the Electronic Patient Record), the system is potentially beneficial. The actual success of the system will depend on the quality and granularity of metadata it uses and the topical coverage and quality of resources to which it points.
