With the focus on Mount Kinabalu as a sport tourism destination, the push and pull theory (Dann, 1981) was adopted as framework to examine the travel motivation of sport tourists visiting Sabah, Malaysia. The Leisure Motivation Scale (Beard & Ragheb, 1983) and semantic differential instrument by Attle (1996) were utilized to measure the push motives and pull factors. Analyses of data include descriptive statistics, t-test and logistic regression. A sample of 195 mountain climbers was selected with the majority comprising of international active sport tourists respondents (71.1%). Statistically, domestic active sport tourists at Mount Kinabalu were more significantly motivated by two out of four push motives namely; competence-mastery and social factors. With respect to the pull factors, analysis of result from the logistic regression shows there were few attributes which has been identified to be perceived differently by the domestic and international tourists. The findings of the s...

Efforts at organizing sport event should involve developing marketing communications that feature sport-events information to potential sport tourists. Using a human and a marker component of Tourist Attraction System Model by Leiper (1990), this paper explores that sport tourists vary in some extent which they choose event informational sources to the commencement of traveling decisions related attending Sepaktakraw event. The respondents included 316 sport tourists in two categories of domestic sport tourists (n=224) and foreign sport tourists (n=92) attending ISTAF Super Series. Differences were found. Costumer’ satisfaction has been publicized as successful sport business and marketing and improves the strategic planning of sport event performance. Using Leiper’s (1990) Tourist Attraction System Model, this paper examined satisfaction level from the perspective of 316 sport tourists comprised of domestic (n=224) and foreign sport tourists (n=92) attending ISTAF Super Series. Findings from t-test analysis show that no difference significantly was identified among domestic and foreign sport tourists. The findings provided support for the Sepak takraw event as a potential area of sustainable tourism development in terms of social impact within small-scale sport-tourism context.

Many studies have reported inconsistent results on the relationship between competitive sports participation and academic achievement. Attitude was not studied in previous research on competitive sport participation and in Saudi Arabia, the attitude towards sports participation is low among students due to the fear of negative influence of sport on academic achievement. This study examines whether attitude towards sports participation might play a role in mediating the relationship between sports participation and academic achievement. A total of 102 undergraduate student-athletes from three universities in Saudi Arabia were selected as the sample of this study. Results showed there is a significant relationship between competitive sports participation and academic performance, mediated by the attitude towards competitive sports participation. This study found that the higher the subjects’ participation in competitive sports, the higher their academic performance, especially when they exhibit positive attitude towards their participation in competitive sports

This study examines the mediating effect of academic attitude on the relationship between sport participation and academic achievement of student athletes in Saudi Arabia. A total of 102 subjects comprising of undergraduate student athletes from Saudi Arabia were randomly selected as the sample of this study. Participation in competitive sport is measured as frequency of the students' participation in sports activities in a week (Wicker, Hallmann, Breuer, 2013) and whether the students are active members of sport university teams (Lindner & Kerr, 2000) or sport clubs (Dollman& Lewis, 2010). Academic achievement is measured by the formal academic report from the student athletes' respective university. Survey of Study Habits & Attitudes (SSHA) by Brown and Holtzman (1956) was adapted to measure academic attitude. Result indicates a positive significant relationship between participation in competitive sport and academic achievement. Results also showed a partial mediation of academic attitude on the relationship between sport participation and academic achievement. It was concluded that when a student athlete developed a positive attitude towards academic achievements, the level of their participation in the sport competition will positively affect their academic scores.

For the English as a Second Language (ESL) students, reading is an essential activity for obtaining information. Studies have indicated that readers spontaneously used reading strategies in the process of comprehending text (Pritchard, 1990). Previous investigations also discovered that the use of appropriate strategies could enhance reading comprehension (Olsen & Gee, 1991). Most educators lack the knowledge of what their students do while attempting to comprehend reading materials; very often, they are ...

Leisure-time, as an important factor for reducing and predicting most diseases not only is emphasized by many studies but also it considers as a cause in order to be an active and healthy. Our information this regard on post graduate students is very limited. Their physical activities have decreased due to many factors such as assignments and some courses. To improve physical activity among the students, this qualitative study concentrates on the questions whether or not they play sport or do any physical exercises; if so, how they do it, and if not, why not? The aim of this study is to find out ways of spending leisure-time physical activity by post graduate students. For this study the researchers have selected 5 convenient samples from among third semesters post graduate students who accepted to participate in this research at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), “1st semester 2010”. The researchers derived 36 codes from interviews with students and categorized them into five categories. Respondents argued sport and physical activities can control, prevent and decrease many of different diseases such as cardiovascular illness, arthritis, diabetes, depression, and obesity. All respondents believe leisure-time physical activities improve mental power. Finally, for the latter case, this study intends to propose a suggestion for improving this condition.
