Slosh-Free Positioning of Containers with Liquids and Flexible Conveyor Belt This paper describes a method for slosh-free moving of containers with a liquid at which the conveyor belt is flexible. It shows, by means of experimental results, that a container filled with a liquid can be regarded as a damped pendulum. Upon parameter identification of the two single-mode subsystems, theoretical modelling of the complete system is described. With respect to industrial application, feedforward control is used to transfer the container in horizontal direction without sloshing. The applied method requires deterministic and hard real time communication between the PLC and the servo amplifier which is realized here with Ethernet POWERLINK. The maintenance aspect is a much greater and immediate drawback than even the commonly known major concern of security, and the lesser concern of system integration standards. Maintenance of 4.0 systems has, and will continue to result in related huge increases in process downtime. The barriers to overcoming the maintenance/downtime drawbacks of a 4.0 system are almost insurmountable.

In many cases, the manholes for maintaining various installations including power and telecommunication cables, water-, remote heating-, and gas-pipes are located in a close vicinity of power substations. The paper analyzes the risks of the occurrence of dangerous potential differences within the manhole and on the surrounding ground surface during ground faults in the substation. Possible protective measures are discussed.

Irrigation extremely important practice is agricultural and most water-consuming which has to be reduced. An efficient irrigation system which includes soil moisture sensors can help in the efficient management of irrigation practices. The research includes detailed lab calibration of Df robot soil moisture sensor and development of wireless auto irrigation system using NodeMCU microcontroller. Sensing unit which measures soil moisture and sends data wirelessly. The controlling unit was able to receive & display soil moisture data and take irrigation decision. Microcontroller with relay was used for switching action. An android application is also developed for displaying and manually controlling the water pump. Calibrated DF robot soil moisture shows reading similar to the gravimetric analysis for sandy loam soil. Developed wireless automatic irrigation system worked satisfactorily for sandy loam soil with efficient measurement of soil moisture.

We give in this paper a new method to show the existence of the solution for the proposed model is a combination of the Perona-Malik equation and the Heat equation. We also give numerical implementation details and show experimental results on examples images which prove the efficiency and effectiveness of our model.

We propose a set of methods to classify vendors based on estimated CPU performance and predict CPU performance based on hardware components. For vendor classification, we use the highest and lowest estimated performance and frequency of occurrences of each vendor to create classification zones. These zones can be used to identify vendors who manufacture hardware that satisfy a given performance requirement. We use multi-layered neural networks for performance prediction, which account for nonlinearity in performance data. Various neural network architectures are analysed in comparison to linear, quadratic, and cubic regression. Experiments show that neural networks obtain low error and high correlation between predicted and published performance values, while cubic regression produces higher correlation than neural networks when more data is used for training than testing. An analysis of how the neural network architecture affects prediction is also performed. The proposed methods can be used to identify suitable hardware replacements.

The design of logic controllers for event-driven systems continue to rely largely on intuitive methods rather than on formal techniques. This approach results in a control code that requires extensive verification, is hard to maintain and modify, and may even fail at times. Supervisory control theory (SCT) provides a formal approach to logic control synthesis. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the supervisory control theory in manufacturing systems, an educational test-bed that simulates an automated car assembly line has been built using LEGO® blocks. Finite state machines (FSMs) are used for modeling operations of the assembly line, and for the specifications that accomplish the task of successfully completing the assembly repeatedly. Using the technique of SCT, we derive a supervisor that enforces the specifications while offering the maximum flexibility of assembly. Subsequently a controller is extracted from the maximally permissive supervisor for the purpose of implementing the control by selecting, when possible, at most one controllable event from among the ones allowed by the supervisor. Testing to check the correctness of the control code is reduced, since the controller is guaranteed to enforce the specifications.

As automated controllers supplant human intervention in controlling complex systems, the operators' role often changes from that of an active controller to that of a supervisory controller. Acting as supervisors, operators can choose between automatic and manual control. Improperly allocating function between automatic and manual control can have negative consequences for the performance of a system. Previous research suggests that the decision to perform the job manually or automatically depends, in part, upon the trust the operators invest in the automatic controllers. This paper reports an experiment to characterize the changes in operators' trust during an interaction with a semi-automatic pasteurization plant, and investigates the relationship between changes in operators' control strategies and trust. A regression model identifies the causes of changes in trust, and a ‘trust transfer function’ is developed using lime series analysis to describe the dynamics of trust. Based on a detailed analysis of operators' strategies in response to system faults we suggest a model for the choice between manual and automatic control, based on trust in automatic controllers and self-confidence in the ability to control the system manually.

The power sector in India have grown up to 2, 06,456 MW, as a result of which fossil fuels are depleting at a fast rate. Studies have shown that India is having a geothermal energy potential of about 10600Mw [1].The top hundred geothermal energy sources have potential of about 40*1018.cal which is equal to 27.6billion barrels of petroleum and about 5730 million tons of coal energy.
Small geothermal power plants in these zones can play a vital role to meet the rising demand of power across India. These geothermal plants should be efficient, they should be safe and the power generated must be cheap. For these reasons an attempt has been made in this paper to automatically control the generation of a geothermal power plant. For this purpose Programmable Logic Control (PLC) has been used.
The PLC was invented in response to the needs of the American automotive manufacturing industry. In 1968 GM Hydrometric (the automatic transmission division of General Motors) issued a request for proposal for an electronic replacement for hard-wired relay systems . The main reason for using PLC is cost effectiveness and safe operation. It can be used for full plant automation.
This includes speed control, load control, excitation control, turbine governing system, cooling towers, heat exchange mechanism, and control of the pump of the production well. It can be used for data recording, instrumentation and for protection purpose.PLC can also be used for remote operation as well as for continuous recording of data , for which only a simple pc interfaced with PLC is needed.
