Abstract. This article discusses a potential application of radio frequency identification (RFID) and collaborative filtering for targeted advertising in grocery stores. Every day hundreds of items in grocery stores are marked down for promotional purposes. Whether these promotions are effective or not depends primarily on whether the customers are aware of them or not, and secondarily whether the customers are interested in the products or not. Currently, the companies are incapable of influencing the customers ’ decisionmaking process while they are shopping. However, the capabilities of RFID technology enable us to transfer the recommendation systems of e-commerce to grocery stores. In our model, using RFID technology, we get real time information about the products placed in the cart during the shopping process. It has been argued that there are enormous advantages to integrating laptops into foreign language teaching to help teachers and students become capable of communicating and collaborating with native and nonnative speakers around the globe. This paper aims at underscoring the advantages of using laptops in Teaching English as a Second Language classrooms. It investigates and elucidates different methods and practices that can help English language learners enhance their learning skills through using this technology as well as makes English teachers aware of strategies they can use effectively. Through examining various primary studies and prominent case studies, the paper identifies the shortcomings and inadequacies of the existing conventional English language learning tools. It is necessary for second language teaching to adapt and renew itself in order to be compatible with the globalized world. The paper establishes that the application of laptops is beneficial in providing a wealth of resources that allow students to become active learners by creating content for a worldwide audience.

This article aims to analyze some of the recent development of sustainable urban planning as a tool
for the development of urban areas aimed to improve their economic growth, social development
and inclusiveness, and to make more environmentally friendly, inclusive and safer cities. Sustainable

Collaborative wheeled mobile robots are not stable around a point by continuous time-invariant feedback. Therefore, linear control is ineffective and innovative design techniques such as feedback linearization are required. This paper presents feedback linearized control strategies for collaborative nonholonomic robots using leader-follower formation. A framework for collaborative robots is developed based on their kinematics. The development framework relies on robots having communication capabilities instead of visual capabilities. The collaborative robot system is modeled using Simulink. From the simulation results, the full state linearized via dynamic feedback strategy for the leader robot globally stabilizes the system. Furthermore, the full state linearized via dynamic feedback strategy achieves postures stabilization for the leader-follower formation. For the follower robots, the input-output via static feedback linearized control strategies minimize the error between the desired and actual formation. Furthermore, the input-output linearized control strategies allow dynamical change of the formation at run-time. Thus, for a given feasible trajectory, the full state feedback linearized strategy for the leader robot and input-output feedback linearized strategies for the follower robots are found to be more efficient in stabilizing the system.

Underserved communities lack access to existing resources that could be applied to their particular needs. In this paper, the development of a multipurpose portal, the eD Pool, is discussed. The eD Pool serves four main purposes. First, the portal is a shared repository of resources specializing in electronic development issues. Second, communities, organizations, and individuals use the portal to pool their expertise to design, develop, maintain, and sustain the pool. Third, the eD Pool serves as a communication center, where all involved have access to both the pool content and the pool users. Fourth, given the first three components, communities which generally only receive aid may also become active providers of aid due to a new circumstance I call the Pool Effect.

Recently, however, the potential value of taskindependent knowledge bases (or "ontologies") suitable to large-scale integration has been underlined in many ways. This article examined three broad methods for building ontologies and uses one of them to build ontology for adaptive collaboration in a dynamic environment for knowledge sharing.

Online multiplayer educational games can be designed to support collaboration and assess different cognitive and social abilities among students. The educational games can capture student responses or actions, both shared and unshared, within the game environment and from extrinsic resources. This paper introduces Archer, a community-based computing infrastructure supporting computer architecture research and education. The Archer system builds on virtualization techniques to provide a collaborative environment that facilitates sharing of computational resources and data among users. It integrates batch scheduling middleware to deliver high-throughput computing services aggregated from resources distributed across wide-area networks and owned by different participating entities in a seamless manner. The paper discusses the motivations that have led to the design of Archer, describes its core middleware components, and presents an analysis of the functionality and performance of the first wide-area deployment of Archer running a representative computer architecture simulation workload.

This article provides an overview of Volunteer Voices, Tennessee’s statewide digitization program. The authors focus on the three-year Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership Grant that provided the foundation for future growth of the digitization program. In addition to an overview of the content selection, metadata issues, software selection, digital preservation, and K-12 education emphasis of the grant project, the article includes a detailed description of the work done by the digitization and content specialists from across the state who selected and scanned items. The article concludes with a look at post-grant efforts to promote the sustainability of Volunteer Voices.

Furthermore, worldwide development of UIC project management approaches has been carried out without due consideration of the unique attributes associated neither with this specific environment nor with the high degree of uncertainty intrinsically associated with research projects. This investigation leverages on the available literature, interviews with university-industry research partners and our own works to understand the nature of UIC R&D. Online learning communities are introduced as a comprehensive model for technology-enabled learning. We give an analysis of goals in education and the requirements to community platforms. The main contribution of the article is a reference model for online learning communities that consists of four layers designing the organizational, interaction, channel or service and the technological model of learning communities. This reference model captures didactic goals, learning methods and learning platforms in a structured way and provides guidelines on how to design and implement a medium for learning.

"Flood control for reservoirs require operations in a dynamic and cooperative manner in order to respond to the changing flood control conditions. There is an increasing emphasis on the collaboration of multiple partners with different backgrounds by sharing data, models and analysis tools in a user-friendly environment, thereby making analysis and evaluation more convenient. One of the key objectives of this paper is to exploit the Web as an infrastructure for running distributed applications that will address reservoir system operation. The web-based flood control system for reservoirs presented in this paper supports the entire decision-making process, including preprocessing the real-data observed data, setting initial conditions, selecting reservoirs constraints, interactively generating alternatives, evaluating alternatives and querying modeling analysis results and recommending alternatives. The system has been implemented in a real flood control management system in China.
