Cultivars

The goal of this investigation was to evaluate some qualitative and quantitative traits in fruits of five tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) cultivars. These traits were vitamin C content, pH, total soluble solids (TSS), titrable acidity, fruit diameter, fruit volume, fruit firmness, fresh weight and dry weight. Studied cultivars were Matin F1, Yaghoot, Sunseed, Sadeen and Raha. The results showed that there were significant differences in evaluated parameters among cultivars. The highest contents of vitamin C (36.32 mg. 100 g-1), diameter (6.77 cm), volume
(221.25 cm3), firmness (2.45 Kg. cm-2), fresh weight (194.29 g) and dry weight (11.3 g) were belonged to the cultivar Sunseed. The highest pH (4.3) and TSS (2.49 %) were belonged to the cultivars Yaghoot and Matin F1, respectively. The cultivar Yaghoot also showed the lowest contents of vitamin C (21.37 mg. 100 g-1), TSS ( 1.65 %), titrable acidity (0.274 %), diameter (5.3 cm), volume (158. 75 cm3), firmness (1.825 Kg. cm-2), fresh weight (102.55 g) and dry weight (6.19 g) in compare with other cultivars. Thus based on the results, the cultivar Sunseed can be as a valuable cultivar among other cultivars, because the highest contents of vitamin C, diameter, volume, firmness, fresh weight and dry weight were belonged to this cultivar. The findings of this study may provide suitable information about nutritional value of studied cultivars for food experts and other researchers.

An experiment was conducted to classify and evaluate the available gerbera cultivars (Gerbera jamesonii, Hook) in Bangladesh. We used twenty four gerbera cultivars and those were coded from V1-V24. It was found that V8, V9. V10, V11, V12, V15, V16, V19, V20, V21, V22, V23 and V24 were performed as best in terms of different growth, yield also the quality contributing characters. These cultivars (V8-V12, V15, V16, V19-V24) also provided plenty of variation for leaf area (ranges from 215.7 cm2 to 231.1 cm2). We found that flower head diameter was >10.0 cm (except V8), peduncle diameter was >8.0 mm, standard peduncle length >30.0 cm and petal thickness >0.39 mm (except V8) for these the best performing cultivars ((V8-V12,  V15,  V16,  V19-V24). On  the  other  hand  we  had  classified  these 24 gerbera cultivars into 5 classes according to their blooming pattern. The five classes are singles (V1, V4, V14) doubles (duplex) (V5, V12, V18, V21, V22, V23, V24), crested doubles (V2, V3, V6, V7, V8, V10, V11, V15, V16, V19, V20), full crested doubles (V9) and quilled crested doubles  (spider) (V13, V17).

The aim of this research was to determine the economic efficiency of sweet potato production in Polish conditions (49°49′ N, 21°50′ E). The study was based on the results of a 3-year (2017-2019) field experiment conducted in slightly acidic brown earth. The experiment used the random subblocks method, in which the main experimental factors were cultivation technologies: A) traditional, with no cover, B) with the use of PP spunbond nonwoven. Secondary factors included 5 cultivars of sweet potato of all earliness classes (Goldstar, Carmen Rubin, Satsumo Imo, Beauregard, White Triumph). Constant organic and mineral fertilization was used, and cultivation was carried out in accordance with normal agricultural practice. The propagating material included rooted cuttings of sweet potato from in vitro propagation, planted with 50 x 75 cm spacing. The economic effect of production was determined by all experimental factors. The profitability of production was increased by the use of PP spunbond nonwoven. The most beneficial economic factors were achieved when growing the Beauregard cultivar, and the least-when growing White Triumph. The largest cost of sweet potato commercial production were sweet potato cuttings, which amounted to 56%, and the smallest-plant protection products-1% of direct costs per 1 ha of crops. Sweet potato production in Polish soil and climate conditions between 2017-2019 turned out to be cost-effective.
